Great video. I make a Buddha bowl with hardboiled eggs, sardines, some sort of veg (spinach or kimchi or edamame) and add in only 1/2 cup of rice and I feel full. Adding those ingredients bulks up the meal with less carbs.

I really like the idea of extending rice by adding more nutritious ingredients to it. It doesn't feel like cheating or pretending to like something that I don't. I like my rice with other dishes and this is like hitting 2 birds with one stone. Thanks!

This is correct. Rice is not the culprit here. It is how much we eat rice. Also consider the amount of oil we put in our dishes. Coz 1 tbsp of oil = 120 cal.

Olive oil is around 140 to 160 calories per tablespoon and looks to me that quite a lot was used in the video hence, the cabbage rice had 122 cals per serving. We can opt to use zero calorie sprays or a brush to just add a thin oil layer to the pan instead and even make the dish less calorie dense - making room for a bit of dessert.
@amalk9750
@amalk9750 2 жыл бұрын
Yea olive oil may have 160 cal per tbsp but that is good calories that your body benefits from so those calories are not a problem. Calories become a problem when there’s little nutrients or in excess. My opinion 🙂

@janjan123456
@janjan123456 2 жыл бұрын
@@amalk9750 I agree indeed that olive oil is a good fat source. Our use of good fats are beneficial depending on the goal. If weight loss is the objective, then priority is to reduce caloric load. Remember that 1 gram of fat is 9 calories. No matter how good or bad your fat sources are, if they are in excess, it will give you a hard time losing weight. That's the simple law of thermodynamics as applied to nutrition. This concept is a universal fact and applicable to all kinds of diets. Energy in = Energy out. Now, If the objective is to maintain your weight, and optimize athletic performance, then that is the time when food quality matters more. Cheers! A good reference to this is Dr Mike Israetel's meta analysis on the matter. :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iorIi4mchd2qga8kzbin.info/www/bejne/iorIi4mchd2qga8

@@janjan123456 respect your opinion diets work different from person to person. For me, I’m on a Mediterranean diet and olive oil is used to mainly every dish I make. From salads to main meals and I still managed to loose weight along with exercise.so what works for one doesn’t work for another. ☺️

since rice is tackled, how about oats? Aside from the usual hot water and/or milk, what are creative ways we can do to make oats fun? Can oats also have a savory taste instead of just it being sweet?
@geroneba-ang4874

definitely! my winter favorite is oats caldo-- arroz caldo way of cooking oats. sautée garlic and onion, add your oats and some water. fry some tokwa on the side. when the oats are cooked, season with salt, pepper and calamansi and add chopped chives. this is definitely my go to meal when i'm homesick and it's cold and the sun is out at 4pm. enjoy! oh, and this cooks in less than 10 minutes, unlike arroz caldo which needs longer cooking time.
