Welcome to the Chalfant TV! I am Chalfant.
I started reacting to BTS' music at the end of October 2020 with Trale over at Brothers From Another Color (kzbin.info...) and we still do. Nothing is changing with Brothers From Another Color! It's just that we want to do MORE! We can only shoot our videos together one day per week, and let's be honest, it would take us 5+ years to react to all that BTS has to offer with only shooting 5 videos once per week.
Rather than just privately listening to their music on my own, I’d rather share the entire process with YOU! The goal here is to continue diving deeper into the BTS rabbit hole independently and bring our new insights back to our BFAC reactions!

The first time listening to this song, it was played randomly from a BTS playlist. The emotion flow of the song just stopped me from my driving and looked at the song name because it does sound so painful; even if I didn't understand any word, except tear, tear and fear. That's how powerful this song is.

I agree with you when you said: "I can feel the Jhope part in this song", because The first time I heard this song was the same thought. The last video of Tear (the Final in Seoul), Jhope cried at the end. He was rapping with his emotions. I think he is the most emotional of the three. Even when Suga is my bies. But the three rappers could make us feel different emotions. RM is the one who make me think about his writing. Suga was who was working harder in this rap. I imagine he had not been sleeping very well for nights still he could finish this song. (That is something that the boys used to say. He used to spend time during the nights for writing). And Jhope, he raps with his heart. with his feeling. And if one day, you´ll react to the last speech in 2018 December (the best artist of the year), you´ll watch that Jhope´s speech, was TEARS. and even Jimin, who was the first who observed beforehand the change of Jhope's face, in that speech, It caught his attention that Jhope had been one of those who usually transmits the brightness of joy, now he was breaking down in tears. And Jin in last speech, was who confessed that they thought of separating at the beginning of that year. But Tae started to cry... when he cried, Jimin could not see him and cried too. And V was crying even behind stage. The only who didn´t cry, was Suga. He knew, that he did the best job with tear and that now they were not going to separate. In the film "Break The Silence", Suga explained better; "When I played the song for the members we all cried together". Thank you Chalfant. Love the way to organize each reaction. They also said it was composed when they talked about disbanding. Suga said that they all cried when he played it to the other 6. I think RM didnt want to talk about it on that vlive as it was still fresh. But when they got Artist of the Year at MAMA 2018 (i think) they cried and they talked about it in their winning speech. So the song is like a breakup of BTS

This song, more than any other, grips the heart of ARMY. And it is so evident how painful this time was for them when you see their reactions at the award show. Poor Tae ...... I still cry at Jin & Hobi’s speech, and Tae’s breaking down. So when I hear this song, that video of their reaction plays in my head. It just tears me up-I was going to say tear, as in Suga’s tear, but also tears, as in RM’s tear, but I have to say, fear also hits, thinking about when they will have to stop performing because of military service, and disbanding. Tear is my favorite song too. It gives me the chills to watch them perform it live especially knowing what it’s about and having seen their award show speech. For them to consider disbanding at the beginning of 2018 just as they were starting to get successful means they must have been going through so much due to the pressure to succeed. But they pushed forward and have worked incredibly hard to get to where they are now as the biggest band in the world and one of the most successful artists in the US.

The first I did when I listened to "Tear", was, "How is the pronuntiation". Because, I speak Spanish and When I had started studying English I learned there are two different meanings and different pronunciations for each meaning , even when they have the same spelling. When RM says: "The word "Tear" is interesting, and you can shed a tear, and tear paper, and the word simbolizes what a breakup, means to each. It was tears for me, tearing apart for Suga, and For JHope, It was fear, of talking about after breaking up" for one who was born with another language, like Spanish. All this takes on a more striking meaning. See and analyze the meanings in a different way, Even compare them with their native language. All this, and even after knowing why it was written, has a much more enriching meaning. I must say that your reaction and comments add a little more to what is known by myself. Anyway, I am happy that after this song they dicided to continue as a band And this was brave that they confessed it publicly, and when they obtained an important award at the end of that year (2018). This is my utmost favourite song of the rap line and my utmost favourite version. I still get chills when i hear the first notes. Those notes reminds me of atmospheric music playing in a scene on something like Miami Vice . RM is my bias... Suga is my bias breaker.. AND HOBI SLAYS THIS!!! God I love this. I'm 51 years old. Never been particularly into rap. But I like and appreciate their rap. They're such great story tellers. And the way Hobi throws himself into that last verse... ugh soooooo freaking good. It makes me really emotional. Ddaeng is my next favourite from them.

RM analyses and raps with his mind (poet and genius) ... Sugar criticizes and raps with his emotions (Outro Shadow is the first BTS song that made me cry, I always connect on an emotional level with his lyrics)... J-Hope visualizes and raps with his body. See how he just THREW himself into that last verse, punctuating those lines with movement. The other 2 were amazing of course, but Hobi brought something really special to that particular performance and it just hit really hard in an unapologetic way. It was brutal and honest and raw and beautiful and that's why this song makes me emotional.

After listening to TEAR, I learned from army, that LET GO was to say goodbye to the fans, I mean, it's like "tear" was for the members themselves. and "Let go" to say goodbye to army. This song is hard for me to hear today as well. Anyway, "Tear", "Let Go", even "Born Singer", and the SUGA "First Love" and "The last" make me cry. And No need to listen to another video with explanations. He shows us how he can compose and combine lyrics in a special way. It makes the meaning understandable, not only in your own language, also English and Spanish as well. I really appreciate how you give the introductions. Because when you first know the background, you understand better what that song was made for. Tear is such a masterpiece. It was a shock to us, I believe, when Yoongi said it was written when they were supposed to break up. It's funny to them now but I would guess it was heart breaking at the time. I'm just glad they surpassed that time and hope they'll be together for a longer time.

We learned in the 2018 MAMA speech that they nearly broke up at the beginning of 2018 but it wasn't until last year, when Break the Silence came out, that we learned that this song was actually about that near-breakup. Suga's verse is so dark and J-Hope's verse is so full of raw pain that I knew before that told us what it was about that it had to do with genuine pain. I might not have known that it was about BTS breaking up, but, like you said, you can hear the sheer pain and anger in J-Hope's voice. When that episode of Break the Silence came out, it was all over Twitter. To me, it's one of their most powerful songs. Also, I do like the way you watched several videos of the song. it's a different approach and I really enjoyed it.

There are times I’d play this song over and over again while driving when I got into BTS. Every section is satisfying to me. RM, Suga, and j-hope. My first time hearing it was when I saw them live at the Rose Bowl (as most songs I’ve heard were my first) and I remember when RM came in and I was so amazed. What I saw from my far away seats watching the big screen was RM made me think of Run DMC because he was wearing the bucket hat. I was so hyped!! The impression i got while he was performing it was “Wow, so he’s like a legit rapper!” Idk how to explain it, but he felt authentic when he started the song. Then of course Suga and Hobi were amazing too and found out all of their backgrounds later. It made me realize that moment at the concert...I don’t think this is just a casual fan thing, I don’t know if I’ll be going back from here on out lol. Thought they were so cool. After that day, I went searching for a setlist on Google so I can go find what song it was.

I am not sure which came first, but in the BTS highlight reel which is a storyline element, elements to the "Outro: Tear" musical introduction are utilized. It is essentially a short film and having heard "Outro: Tear" first, when that slightly out of tune piano hits that first note (presumably the Piano from Suga's song "First Love") I had serious goosebumps. As here, it was ominous of a serious turn for the worse.

From what I understand, this song is about the potential break up of BTS that almost occurred a few years back. Thank goodness it didn’t happen!!! Thank you so,so much for doing the reaction where they are wearing all white. Most reactions are taken from the video where they are wearing black because it's an Dior outfit but the performance in the white outfit always hits me more. This is my favorite song because it hits me personally. After a relationship that was over 27 years it ended very quickly even though I saw it coming in the last 5. Suga's lyrics hit me first I didn't know if I should have been angry or sad first, I just wanted it to end. Then JHope hits me deep because immediately after came fear. I always tear up as I am now for the plans and dream that never came through. I'm happy to say I now have peace and still look to the future with new dreams but this song and Let Go helped me reach this point. Now that I know what motivated this song, It hits me another way. Truly happy this group stayed strong together to be here today. This album should have gotten a Grammy! 😁👏👏👏

It is really an emotional song. At first I really didn’t know the real meaning behind the song. _Tear_ or _tear_ 👀👀👀 (Spoiler: it’s both) I love the intro, it’s haunting... gosh I love all of the songs DOCSKIM has produced. Omg yeah, RM and SUGA are both really fast rappers. A part of the lyrics that really hits me but most people kind of gloss over a little is when RM says _”We were heading towards the same place, but now this place becomes our last”_ because I’ve come to link that with a thing he once said about BTS, that it’s like they are all in a boat, and although they are looking in different directions they’re still going towards the same place. Oh yeah, this song gets me in my feels in a way no other rap song ever has. It’s I think one of the only songs that has made me cry. Second live is SPEAK YOURSELF tour in Seoul.

Hi Chalfant. I love your thorough research for each track. During a first listening, we all had this reflex to think about a broken relationship between 2 people but afterwards we realize that we are talking about three different feelings in front of a possible separation and we say to ourselves that maybe it's a question of a group until Suga and RM enlighten us... But as always BTS approaches their words in such a way that they can adapt to the feelings of the listener. Here's what there is to know about this track in order to complete your knowledge. “Outro: Tear” - written and composed by RM, j-hope, SUGA, DOCSKIM, Shin Myeong Su - is the eleventh track off LOVE YOURSELF 轉 ‘Tear’ and continues BTS’s tradition of including an intro and outro on every album. According to an article on Naver the song has been described as « a hip-hop track with samples from the main music from the LOVE YOURSELF Highlight Reel 轉 and member RM, Suga, and J-Hope’s powerful rapping." The track is related to their last “Outro: Her”. The theme is similar, since they’re wondering about real love. However, TEAR is a darker reflection where they have discovered that love isn’t comprised solely of happy and lighthearted moments as they thought before. In 2020, from their docu-series Break the Silence, Yoongi revealed that this song was written to the members of BTS while they were discussing possibly disbanding. And the first time they all listened to it, they all cried a lot. Here is the explanation of this song through some of its lines but remember BTS always make sure that we can appropriate their lyrics but I warn you it will be long : MY HEART THAT'S STAINED WITH BELATED SELF-LOATHING In this line RM is discussing how, despite being an extremely successful person now, he has been unable to grow out of his own self loathing and tendency of questioning his self worth. It should seem that these mindsets would disappear with the amount of things he has achieved, but they still haunt him to this day. In multiple of the promotion interviews Bangtan has done for this album, RM has mentioned the struggle he believes we all have with truly loving ourselves. He also mentions multiple times how his final life goal is to wholeheartedly love himself. It has been a struggle for him to accept and love himself personally. An example of when he specifically discusses this is in their interview with J-14: « It’s always the hardest to love yourself, but in love we should always take off the mask and be true to who we are. The best way to love yourself is to grow yourself. » WOULD YOU STILL BE ABLE TO LOVE ME AGAIN LIKE BEFORE WITH THAT SMILE WITH WHICH YOU USED LOOK AT ME When considering that “Tear” was written about BTS' possible disbandment, this line takes on a deeper meaning. Here, RM asks the hypothetical question of whether those who adore him as RM would love and smile at him even if he were no longer that person. Without all of the shining spotlights, he questions whether people would still care about him beyond just being a member of BTS. Worded hopefully, he wants to believe that his members and his fans would see him the same, but there is doubt in these lines. There is no way he could truly know because of the drastic nature of the situation. YOU'RE MY TEAR YOU'RE MY, YOU’RE MY TEAR x3 In a V-Live, RM talked about how for the chorus, the word ‘tear’ means something different for each member. For RM, he used the word for physical tears from crying. For Suga, it is the physical tearing when something is ripped. Lastly, for J-Hope, it was the fear of talking after a breakup. WE WALKED TOWARDS THE SAME PLACE BUT THIS PLACE BECOMES OUR LAST ALTHOUGH WE USED TO TALK ABOUT FOREVER NOW WE BREAK EACH OTHER WITHOUT MERCY These lines talk about the choice that BTS were struggling to make at the time that this song was written. They were questioning whether they should continue on together as a group. During their 2018 MAMA speech after winning artist of the year for the second time, the eldest member Jin expressed that they were thinking of disbanding earlier on in the year: « To tell you the truth, during those days, we’ve been through hard times. So once we talked about, “Should we disband out team?” » Again in their 2020 docu-series, Break The Silence, that was filmed over the course of the ‘Love Yourself Tour’ to the ‘Speak Yourself Tour’, the member Suga said: « The lyrics for “Tear” were written for the members. When I was writing the melody at the time, we were contemplating whether we should quit or not. When I played the song for the members, we all cried together. » These lines highlight this theme by referring back to their trainee days. Often times trainees in South Korea go though years of difficult training to debut, not knowing if they are going to succeed or not. This line lets us in on the conversations that they probably had to encourage each other to keep going. Talking about ‘Forever’ was a motivator for BTS. However, “Tear” shows how painful and difficult this time must of been for them. Between sharing a common goal of ‘Forever’ but at the same time contemplating the idea of disbandment, they must of been hurt thinking that the dreams they once talked about might never happen. ALTHOUGH WE THOUGHT THAT WE DREAMED THE SAME DREAM THAT DREAM HAS FINALLY BECOME A DREAM BTS has consistently written about dreams. In fact, their debut song “No More Dream” is solely dedicated to the idea of having a dream. Here, they talk about how their once pipedream has become their reality, and now that they have reached their goals they are at a loss. In Episode 6 of Break The Silence, RM explained: « Honestly this is what I think…this [referring to BTS] isn’t mine. The image of BTS may have been realized, but it’s something that’s quite abstract. For instance, it could all disappear in a single moment. We are undoubtedly creating it together, but it’s not tangible. Sometimes we take it for granted…but I’ve never thought of it as being mine » While BTS does consist of seven members, it has grown into something beyond just its members, which RM further elaborates in the episode: « It doesn’t belong to anyone. It’s like an imaginary, momentary rainbow that’s been created by ourselves and the people who help us. It is going to disappear someday, so we have to stay humble and reflect on ourselves. I think it’s important for us to spend more time reflecting on these things. » THAT'S RIGHT, RIGHT THERE, WHAT ARE YOU HESITATING FOR THIS IS THE ENDING YOU WERE WISHING FOR In Korean, Yoongi uses the phrase “옳지,” which is an expression used in Korea to cheer on people, mainly kids, meaning ‘that’s right’ or more literally in English ‘keep going.’ When considering that “Tear” was written about BTS' possible disbandment in 2018, this line stands out because most of the members of BTS are younger than Yoongi, making the phrase hold a heavier meaning. WHY ARE YOU SPILLING IT? WHY ARE YOU TEARING IT UP? “Why are you spilling it?” refers to the spilling of tears. RM uses the phrase “your my tear” in the chorus. “Why does it get torn” refers to tearing apart, Suga uses the same phrase in the chorus but pronounces it as ‘tear’(torn). they are using both the spilling of tears and tearing apart as metaphors for partings/goodbyes. OUR END THAT TWO LETTERS HANDED TO US Two letters are giving the “end” because in korean, the word end has with the prefix 끝난 - which is considered two letters in korean (끝 and 난). THAT I WON'T CRY, THAT I WON'T TEAR IT UP Here J-Hope is showing how he views this situation differently from RM and SUGA. Hey Chalfant. Outro Tear is one of my favorite rap line tracks. After finding out what the song was really about .... ☹️☹️ By the way, there is this YTube channel called RiseOfBangtanOfficial. I’m not sure if it’s a group or just one person, but they are ARMY and have been releasing weekly documentary videos of BTS. They use a lot of Bangtantv and media clips to tell the story of the guys. The storytelling is AMAZING. Feels like a real professional documentary. It’s really well done. They are currently on episode 4 and each video is approximately 30 min long. The editor said that they are not sure how many episodes it will be, but it’s weekly for now. I’m surprised that more ARMYs haven’t been to this channel yet and I highly recommend you watch when you have time.

On my journey with BTS, it was Jimin's 'Serendipity' that brought me in, and 'Outro: Tear' that made me fall in love in Hobi. After knowing the true meaning behind this song, I had to step away from this song for a few months, it was too painful. @@ChalfantTV The acceptance speech is when they first told fans they had considered disbanding at the beginning of 2018, but we didn’t find out the true meaning behind Tear until Suga revealed it this year in their Break the Silence documentary series. I know you have a LOT of music to get through but one day, even if it’s on your own time, I really do suggest watching those documentaries (Burn the Stage, Bring the Soul, Break the Silence). You get a lot of insight into what it’s like for them touring, what goes on behind the scenes, and the amount of hard work they put in to try and be the best they can be.

I should have watched this emotional video, not read the text. why read it, if you then watched the video with the text....... the performance gives everyone goosebumps and tears, and you read the text. you also paused during the words Hobie, nightmare....
