Enjoying watching also as my husband and I built our retirement home it seems just like yesterday but is over 30 years ago. Our home was stolen, it seems the town has a habit of doing this and has it down pat. Their criteria seems to be to have the grandchildren tucked in ---they can be convinced everything was your fault---and as long as they have a car, phone, job and other, they think everything is fine not knowing the security that was stolen is everything. Water every day for 2 weeks after transplanting a tree. Create a saucer of dirt around the tree to catch any rain. Don't plant any deeper that where it was growing or you may kill it. I transplanted 50 bare root sugar maples one year in July and they all lived. That was almost 45 years ago.

Me, knowing a little something about home construction and being a father and husband, i asked, "why would he install a toilet before texture, baseboards, flooring and paint are done?" Then i realized, this was probably the one BIG condition for moving the family up there.

You just might be lucky enough, with the ages of your kids, to set down enough great memories for them to always love the place. Puts a smile on every homeowners face when he flushes he bathroom toilet for the first time. I have owned two shops that were high altitude and never again. Lightning arrestors and wind traps with dust flying in the eyes no matter how clean. So doors pretty much had to be closed all the time. I think he would save money on the road in the long run with a couple more switchbacks in there so to keep the road pitch down. It is hard on rigs and hard to keep on road in the winter, just too steep. Glad the sheet rock is coming to end, I get tired just watching you have to handle it. Good video, Keep them coming

Buy a 10-17 cu.ft cart to tow behind your ATV or mower. Store all your landscape and garden tools in it and put a tarp over it if you store outside. Saves a lot of carrying tools and equipment, garden stakes, etc. You also know where they are. You can also put a tool rack on it. A great timesaver. Once you get a garden in, you can build a small shed to store tools and maybe a rototiller. Put it on skids to make it mobile so your town can't tax it.

if you are going to tile in the bathtub surround . extend the tile to have one complete tile to the floor on the outside of the bathtub. this prevents the issues with the water that gets around the shower doors from destroying the first few inches of surface next to the tub. hopefully you are going to cove the flooring in the bathroom so no water can wick under the edges including the edge against the bathtub base. on the battery bank.. do you have any large electrical cable left that could allow you to put a hole thru the wall. and put jump start terminals in a water/weather proof box on the outside of your wall.. allowing you to drive a truck back there and hook up to the inputs with your truck to use the alternator and truck batteries to bring your home system up in emergencies. since you have a small excavator i would think that snow removal might not be an issue with getting a truck back there. i wonder how many amp the alternator is on the giant excavator on the hill is.. running a roll up cable up there to allow the big excavator to become your back up power supply if you can.. got to use it for something.

@Steve Diamond I bought and sold a house that had tile over the drywall around the tub area. Of course it failed, "nobody" seals the grout other than maybe the first install if that. Tile around the tub is an install I would not attempt, I am tile challenged let alone vertical tile. Vinyl panel time

one additional thing.. when you go to do the floor.. see how far clockwise you can spin the toilet to get the seat away from the edge of the tub. giving the rider a little more leg room on the left.. just to the extent of the closet bolts. so i am only talking a very few degrees. its just an idea. i have no idea if its going to put the right side of the toilet (seated position ) too close to the cabinets. a free standing roll holder can also be really nice.

I always recommend American standard toilets to my customers. They are the pioneers of the high efficiency flush valves that most all toilets have. They are also rated number 1 in flushing force by many online resources. Also they are very price friendly at $150 - 250 pending model (box stores). Congratulations on your home build, you have done a fantastic job this coming from a master in the trades of over 16 years.

Cmon man, the Vormax is "THE" toilet, and over 300 bucks now at Home Depot. I have one, and it is a good toilet. My space wouldn't allow an old big tank one, or I would have gone that way. I got another Am Standard one downstairs that is a freaking dog, however. A real hound dog toilet. Three flushes if lucky.

@@justloggit22 I'm trying to remember this other American Standard, it's no Vormax that's for sure. My old Plebe is the real ticket, pulled it out and up the road for the septic tank house. More water per flush I think helps there plus it's been a great toilet. Low though but oh well

I'm from the UK, watching the "dry walling" etc, I presume that this is the same as what we call plaster board, the fixings are done as we would do on a timber frame, taping the joints etc;. What is mud and mudding? here the plaster board would get one or two coats of gypsum based plaster, this would be a finish to the wall, generally with little or no need for sanding and ready to decorate to choice when dry. The problem for home build with plastering is simply that plastering is a skill not for everyone and is usually contracted to a tradesman/woman, having said that, I believe that some UK new builds are using these US techniques and not going to plaster finish, mainly on grounds of cost cutting, not seen any in the UK as yet, is this technique as durable as the UK plaster finish? Not criticising by the way, jusy interested.

Beautiful views from that guys property..but he's going to find that road is not usable n the winter unless he has some serious equipment on hand. Still finding things to do other than drywall and finishing ;) but get on it - and stay on it, know it's 1 of your least favorite things to do, but focus on it until it is done, think of how you'll be able to get to EVERYthing else after..w/out having to think about it, and nothing will get you closer to moving in than that. Got a small revision and repair of some of the only work I didn't do in this build here..and yep, there's some drywall work at the end of it ;) But now today I've got the last of the items needed, it's on to it starting tomorrow.

How to build access on slopes is an exercise in managing surface water. Rolling switchbacks and grade reversals need to be employed for sustainable design without the use of major storm-water infrastructure. Perhaps there's a discussion of this on the episode where the ranch gets inundated with water.

Great video as usual, but im concerned about one thing I hope you plan on up grading the brakes you went from 15 - 16 inches of tire to 20" takes more brake to stop that rolling weight. And with a trailer loaded brakes could heat up and fail no matter if trailer has brakes or not. Just find a dodge that had 20s from the factory and put that brake system on it . Be cheaper than buy after market brake system.
