On the strength of this review I purchased a 12V 100Ah Chins. The price is now down to $349 and available on Amazon. The battery arrived in about 10 days and is at the correct voltage. I will continue to use and report back any difficulties. Thanks Will. UPDATE: 2 100AH Chin's in parallel providing power to a 3000W Samlex inverter for sump pump backup application. Power required for sump is way below this "overkill" set-up. Intermittent cycling and no issues whatsoever. Battery's working 100% as specified...very pleased!

Update: I have 2 100V Chins LiFePO4 batteries purchased via Amazon about 10 months ago, as above. I subsequently found that the internal batteries were pouch cells other than the prismatic that I was led to believe. I contacted Chins and they confirmed they were "soft cells" or pouch. I complained and they offered to replace them with prismatic. They sent me a PREPAID UPS return label and I returned them for a swap. I received the new cells before they even received my return. I consider this the BEST customer service of any manufacturer I've dealt with! Bravo Chins!.

There's a lot of people who automatically equate high price to best quality. There's a market niche for that, and while sales are slower they're steadier and remain more stable in swings of the economy. Doing business does cost more in the US than China just like living in NYC costs more than living in Alabama. It's not all 'slave labor' in China; just that where it costs less to live you can do equally well with lower wages, so lower wages will exist allowing companies to sell their product at lower prices. You can make high profit on low sales numbers or low profit on high sales numbers and both end up with the same net profit.That's BB's established market niche so they're not likely to drop their prices even if they can- why invite competition and a chance of losing when you've got the game won already?

I recently got one of these, works well. They have another version they call their smart version, it has a built in heating pad and low temp disconnect. Apparently at low temps it uses the power from the charger to run the heating pad so that it doesn't use the cells to power the heating. Once it's above the temp needed to charge then it switches to charging. I'd be curious to see how that works.

@andycanfixit3 жыл бұрын
@@kfclist793 In a place like that other than the LTO chemistry you probably want your batteries in an insulated and ideally climate controlled space. The BMS will basically just disconnect the battery in that setup and all your charging power up to whatever the heaters limit is would go to heating but it probably would not be enough to overcome that cold. You would likely need a separate heating system as well.

Hey Will! Amazon sells the "smart" version of this battery as well for about $180 more. From what I can ascertain, the smart versions have a cold temperature sensor and a heating element to warm up the cells to charge them safely when the exterior temp is all the way down to -30°F. Is that something worthwhile to have if you live in a cold(er) area or would it be better just to use the temperature sensor in the Victron MPPT? We live in Maryland, so our winters aren't harsh harsh (it rarely gets below 10°F, but we have been camping late(r) in the fall when it dips below freezing overnight. Originally I was going to get (2) 206AH SOK batteries, but they're hard to come by. I was thinking about pivoting to these.

One review on Amazon says the company doesn't use the low temp sensor because it also prevents low temp discharge. I guess the BMS doesn't have a separate circuit to control charge independently of discharge so they just disable the low temp cutoff completely.

I take amazon reviews with a grain of salt these days. Vendors are still bribing buyers to leave 5 star reviews. But these videos blow away those reviews (legit or not) since you actually show us the hardware and data points. I saw this battery and I assumed those reviews were bought and paid for and the battery was junk. So your review here shows I was wrong. Kind of like the renogy which you've shown is junk.

@@P_RO_ Agree, but they are taking their time. I attempted to post a review stating product came with a note to leave 5 star review for a gift card and amazon wouldn't post it. So while it is a start, they really are not trying too hard to stop it, and it isn't for lack of resources.

You need to use a product for a longer period of time to know what it is good for. And you can't tell if a battery is good or not by just looking at the parts in it. That is like looking under the hood of a car and using the car for one trip, and then saying that this engine looks really good, this a review and this is a really good car. People that don't know better are buying products based on 'reviews' like this.
@skelafeti3 жыл бұрын
@@milcotto4153 You get a good idea if it's going to be a decent battery by the quality it was put together and the components. Without these reviews you could end up with a renogy battery that he tore apart and showed how shoddy it was. It's all a risk, even reputable lead acids can be bad. People are way easily bought and influenced so you never know about most of these reviews for that matter.

I have a similar setup. 12V fridges range from 60-90W. So this will run 24 hour a day. The other stuff you listed will be taken care by the excess solar during the day. If it's a PC then you will need more. Labtop is better. Inverter depends on your requirements 1500W, 300-400AH in batteries (lithium), 60-80A solar charge controller and about 1200W in panels. Why not a propane fridge, the system could be a lot smaller. You need to figure out total watt usage in day. Then size the battery a bit bigger (1.5x). Then estimate the panels, by assuming you get like 3 hours of sun a day. 300-400ah 12V, you will need 1000-1400W in solar panels. 24V system would be better. Beefy for 12V and only because of the fridge. So based on what you said:. 400W inverter, worst case for fridge = 90wx24h = 2160 wh. So get 3x100AH or 1x300Ah lithium. Cheap 100A Mppt charge controller (OOYCYOO). 3x 340W solar panels (3P config). Get a 6way 12V fuse block. Add RV lights, water pumps....

@@ImACarbonCopy uh, yes I did "watch Will", and I still didn't see that the internal cells were in any way vibration isolated/padded/or bound in a way that might or might not lead to vibration damage. @j.r.5763 жыл бұрын
There are plenty of situations lead acid don't cut it. Such as in winter temps. In real world you're lucky if you get 40% of your rated capacity when freezing. I had 235ah @50% available, I was using about 35ah running my furnace overnight after charging, in the morning I'd be at 12.0 volts or less, just 10 hours. You get over 95% available power with lifepo4. Sure it's a waste if you don't need it, not so much when you do. I now have 1200ah via 6 200ah lifepo4, I can pretty much run anything I want now without worry.
