I would have added that 3d printing is a part of a value chain that leads to innovation in all sorts of fields, and is an amazing educational tool (i taught a 3d printing class in China last year). The more people that do 3d printing, the more people will see the value of freedom of expression. It also opens the door to learning useful coding, design, and circuitry.

@Man who knows? Am I planning of crashing my car today? Might as well buckle up. Or not. Live your life. I’ve driven without buckling up before as a matter of convenience. Anyways all joking aside though. Just the knowledge, or I guess uncertainty that everyone could be packing or nobody could be packing is deterrent enough in some cases. The same way just having visible security cameras can lower crimes in some cases. Unless the criminal is brazen/desperate enough. But I also don’t believe that more guns=less crime is the only solution. It’s something that has to be attacked from both ends. The places in the US at least that have the least crime isn’t the places where people can more easily acquire firearms legally. It’s places that both have easy access to legal firearms AND high income. You have to both make citizens have access to firearms if they want to AND attack the factors that lead to crime to begin with. It’s the real reason why those countries that people point to and say “see gun control works. They did that there.” Is because they chose to tackle what causes criminality to begin with. It now we’re seeing that they’ve kinda lag behind on keeping up on that front and now we’re seeing an uptick in crime. Never to the level of the US of course. We have a long way to go. The thing about gun violence problem in the US is it’s not a problem with guns, it’s the violence part. Yeah everyone wants to dunk on the US for leading the rest of the developed world in gun violence per capita but... ignore that for a minute. We also lead the developed world in violent crimes involving blades (per capita too of course). We lead it in violent crimes involving blunt tools. We lead it in violent crimes without a weapon. So not only are you more likely to get shot in the US, you’re also more likely to get stabbed, bludgeoned, or punched compared to other developed countries. So that tells me that the method of delivery is not the problem. We need to tackle the root of it.

Just because you haven’t see instances of very good working firearms just means the right people aren’t making them yet. I guarantee I can make an easy to create firearm that uses a standard metal piping and pin with minimal moving parts and have a very effective durable gun. All it takes is one person to share the file snd documentation and anyone could have a gun. The important thing is to make sure law abiding citizens have access to guns to counteract the criminals who WILL be 3d printing guns (and selling them to other criminals).

Question´s ahead ! prepare a cold bevarege I do not get the debate ate all. What are you people arguing about. Is it making guns at your own house or is it making guns out of plastics i.e 3D printers? If it is about making guns in general, you would have do ban all lathes and all mills NC and CNC. If its about making guns out of plastics and walking trough a detector, did you consider the fact that a cartridge is out of Metal? I do not want to go in details but a cartridge out of plastics makes a whole new set of problems ( not even mentioning the bullet itself and the primer) So, what is the debate about? I honestly do not get it. Is it the part where you are physically able to manufacture illegally yourself or is it the fact that it is made on a “cheap” printer? I honestly do not get it. With a half decent mill, you can produce a working firearm that is capable of firing multiple rounds / mags before having issues. With a plastic gun you can be thankful if the first round did not kill you due to shrapnel’s from the “firearm” itself. Light me up, is this debate just to create clicks and a public aaawwww or is there more to it were I am to European to understand ( meme intended, pun not so much)

I’m American and don’t understand. I’m pretty sure it’s for the pure “shocking” story in media. It’s a non issue not really sure why people are freaking out about. Basically the only reason for 3d printing a gun is maybe proof of concept that you can make a POS weapon compared to a regular firearm.

There are things like the Anarchist Cookbook that tell you how to make things like TNT so I would assume that free speech applies to nukes as well? Can anyone help me with this?
@evn1535 жыл бұрын
Informational resources on how to build a nuclear weapon are already publicly and freely available. It's the difficulty in refining the fissile material that keeps people from building them, rather than some sort of "security by obscurity" approach of just hoping that people won't figure out how physics works.
@DataBee7445 жыл бұрын
Nukes aren’t that scary anyway. Well, there's filaments that are good for printed out guns, like carbon fiber, metal, and other flexible filaments. The nozzles for the flexible filaments have to be a hardened steel, because of the abrasiveness of the flexible filaments going through the narrow end of the nozzle, and then the heated bed has to be up to 100 celsius and higher.
@tarstarkusz5 жыл бұрын
EVERYTHING in this video is wrong in the sense that it is irrelevant. 3d CNC can make a gun that is ON PAR or BETTER THAN any gun you can purchase. 3d CNC is the negative of 3d printing where instead of laying down the material, you start with a large block of metal which is then shaped the machine tools. You can create ANY shape you want with a 3d CNC machine. Like 3d plastic printers, it is a FILE that can do it. So all the saying "this tech isn't ready for real world firearms application" is 100% WRONG!
@tacticalbacon73865 жыл бұрын
Well, alright. But what do you propose be done with the regulations and such?
@tarstarkusz5 жыл бұрын
Nothing. There is nothing that can be done. The barrier to entry with CNC is far greater. A computerized CNC machine with a Z axis starts at around 5k and probably needs 3 phase electricity. Still, 5k is within the reach of most people. There is no way to do it. It's too cumbersome. However, you could stop companies from selling the plans. Most don't want bureaucrats breathing down their necks.

You dont need to print guns that last a lot of time. You need to print a gun that lasts for 1-2 shots (the chamber, barrel and firing pin can be made from things like common tubing and nails) and then assemble it all in 3d printed guns. With that, you can go to an enemy, take a shot and grab a good gun
@Danny.Meatball4 жыл бұрын
Well, currently, there printed AR lowers that have reached thousands of rounds, printed Ak receivers, printed semiautomatic firearms, and, yes, you can go home, press print and in a few hours a gun will be waiting for you (Some assembly required)
@ColdFuse964 жыл бұрын
There's also another very crucial thing that guns rely on that can't be achieved with regular consumer 3D printers: Steel. Bullets fire with a Flint-and-Steel method. A load of gunpowder is packed into the casing of a round, and a primer (flint) is struck with a hammer (steel) causing the powder to ignite and blast the bullet forwards. Additionally, guns heavily rely on springs, which are also made out of steel or metal. You can theoretically print coils, but they're not springy enough for them to be used repeatedly in guns. At best you'd get a one-shot gun if you can bypass the above flint and steel issue. Steel melts at around 1,500 Celsius, and I've never seen a printer that can break past 350. Hell, some can't even handle ABS, which prints at 260, and that's one of the most common printing materials. Also, even if you include metal parts with a plastic body, that's already been done with the original Glock 17, which was made by a toy company (of all things), and did literally that; used only the essential metal parts and used plastic for the rest to keep it as lightweight and portable as possible, and people argued the exact same things about it. They called it a "terrorist's weapon" and claimed metal detectors wouldn't be able to find it, but today it's no different than any other handgun that anyone can pick up.
