The reason for the extra buttons on the controller itself IS that you don't have to travel to the keyboard anymore, even though it might be close, it's still better to not have to move to the keyboard at all. Also the larger one is more ergonomic due to the wristpad.

I just got a Spacemouse Compact. I understood how to use it within one hour of practice. Instant improvement, Autodesk Alias has the best improvement. With the two buttons I bound ctrl+shift so I don't have to go back to the keyboard for the marking menus. It's a game changer. It works great in Fusion 360 except when the perspective scale gets messed up, switching to ortho backing away from the model and switching back to perspective fixes it. They could improve it in Blender, if you sneeze and get out of bounds you can't return, you have to reset by picking an object in the lister and hit (numpad .) to "focus on selected". Also Blender uses "mouse focus" to determine the active viewport so you need to make sure your mouse pointer stays within the viewport for it to work. If your mouse pointer leaves the viewport for a menu it stops working.
@UHStudio3 жыл бұрын
Yes, there could definitely be improvements in Blender. Although, the behaviour you describe, it works the same way in Rhino, so every once in a while, I need to run a zoom-to-selected command

The enterprise has the screen, to it would need to be recharged quite often if it were wireless in any case. The enterprise is a great tool, but you have to be certain that you will first commit to program it for your intended pursposes and it takes time to get it right. And then commit to using it, which is adding a new kind of muscle memory. In the end, like any tool, you get the value's worth of the time you invest in learning how to use this new tool.

I use a wired space mouse. it has two programmable keys on either side. Often in CAD, you can program those keys to bring up a menu on the screen (that you have populated with common used commands) and this does a lot of the work that the normal mouse does. You can save these configs for different programs. This will make you faster.

I disagree about which is the most useful. The spacemouse pro is extremely useful if you set it up with the keys you want it to have. It has all of the primary keys anyone would need, and changing the other custom keys to things like, save, delete, copy, paste, undo, redo, enter etc make it even more useful. You also wouldn't have to move your hand from the spacemouse to the keyboard all the time if you used the buttons on the spacemouse instead of the keyboard keys. I suggest getting used to using them instead and stop moving to the keyboard as much. Also, the small mouse has the problem where if you lift up you just lift the mouse up off the desk, or it slides around. With the larger spacemouse pro your wrist holds the mouse down so it doesn't move forward, or up when moving around in your model. I also use each programs shortcut gestures, which gives me the same effect as hot keys. I do not use hot keys at all because of this. I also purchased a logitech G600 which I programmed so that the 12 side buttons is a number pad and the far right button is an enter key. This allows me to never have to use the keyboard unless I am typing letters, which isn't extremely common when designing (mostly just for naming things or doing drawings).

Just what I was thinking. I'm contemplating buying one and thought having the mini space mouse only is such a waste to only be able to scroll. @@3LFL3DA are the keys on your Pro (or is it Enterprise?) easy to reach and click without looking down? My main reason to get one is my left fingers just keep missing when having to press Alt or ctrl keys along doing some stretching or acrobatic move to reach an alphabet key and keeps requiring me to look down to reorient. When I'm doing hundreds or thousands of clicks in a work session, it just doubles the time every moment I have to look away from my screen. I was considering a key pad like the Razer Tartarus V2 but am drawn to the scroll wheel on the 3dconnexion Enterprise. I'm so fucking dumb lol. I thought it replaced mouse and hated the idea. But It's a camera controller instead and I love it. Definitely a must-have.
@UHStudio3 жыл бұрын
Yep, definitely doesn't replace the keyboard or the regular mouse, but utilises some of the functionality that should make it more fun and easier on the hands to manipulate in 3 dimensions.

The point of the Pro and Enterprise version is that you DON'T go between the spacemouse and keyboard 😜
@UHStudio2 жыл бұрын
With the enterprise, it is possible. With the pro, at least for me, I still need additional keys on the keyboard so still need to travel. I have had intense modelling sessions though, where I have used just the Enterprise and a mouse to do everything with the keyboard of the way. It worked well, but it was quite specific, so the buttons were enough.
@Pokornz2 жыл бұрын
@@UHStudio I think it really depends how well you set up your speed dials and shortcuts. I have the Pro and only have to use the keyboard for inputting dimensions. (Fusion 360 full time)

I'm beginning to get pain in my hand from all the jewelry modeling in CAD I do for work. Sounds like I definitely need to get one of these.
@UHStudio3 жыл бұрын
Yes it would probably help. Check out also upright mice and trackball mice. However, the sole fact that one hand helps with moving around in 3d space is better than any traditional mouse on its own.

Yes. All of them except the largest one called the Enterprise, last time I checked.

much enjoyed your video, I have used 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Pro for years with Sketchup and I've enjoyed it with Blender on Windows yet on my Mac Pro Blender 2.9 does not work properly. I'm capable of zooming in and out but I am not capable of rotating around the object. thank you again for your KZbins much appreciated.

Has the performance of your Spacemouse Pro improved on Blender for Mac OS? I'm thinking of getting the Enterprise for Blender but worry if it will be fully functional on Mac OS. Thanks

Mac pro or Macbook pro? The trackpads on mac laptops work almost as good for viewport navigation with Blender and Rhino as the 3d mouse. Check out one of my videos on optimal settings to see if some adjustments to the options can fix it?
@UHStudio3 жыл бұрын
Blender has funny support for setting up the hotkeys. You basically have to set them up within Blender as opposed to the 3dx connexion app. At least that's the way it works on windows. Not sure about on mac.

Can you use it while drawing or scultpting?
@UHStudio3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use if while scuplting in 3d. Not for drawing though. I believe Adobe's apps may work with it, but I don't use Adobe apps anymore and the Affinity apps don't work with it unfortunately.

Is this to be combined with a mouse or not?
@Gubbinatorr4 жыл бұрын
Yeah because the 3D mice only move the view, they don't move the mouse pointer itself.
@UHStudio4 жыл бұрын
Yes as Gub has mentioned, it's only for 3d navigation and you use it with your left hand. You still have your mouse in your right hand (or vice versa if you are left handed)

@UHStudio3 жыл бұрын
The smaller one could purely be use for rotation, whereas the larger models have plenty of capabilities for setting up shortcuts, but it is time and effort
@lorenzomanini10173 жыл бұрын
For me i guess that those buttons are not enough to cover all the shortcuts i use (from 7 different softwares). Not worth to me if the only benefit is a smooth 3D space manipulation. I need to be precise and fast, not to seam cool doing it.

@@lorenzomanini1017 You program these buttons for each of your software separately. The device recognize the software you work with and set assigned buttons automatically.

So I've been on the fence about these mice since AutoCAD.... 12? 14? :) Out of curiosity, can you mouse AND use this unit? I am thinking about all the times I am caught drawing a complex polyline for some kind of extrusion profile or something, and I need to zoom and orbit as I go. With this mouse, it seems you could keep your left hand on zoom/pan/orbit while you stitch your polyline with the mouse/trackball on your right hand. Is that possible?
@UHStudio4 жыл бұрын
yes
@TAH17122 жыл бұрын
I was kinda thinking the same - small one would be much closer to the keyboard...but, i have already got the mid-sized Spacemouse pro - hmm, should I spend out on another?? I do find though it's easy to assign shortcut keys to all the Spacemouse pro keys, so yes I do have doubles but all the important most used keyboard keys are also assigned right next to the Spacemouse control knob (it's actually quicker than spanning over the keyboard!)- It's like what you said about using different mouses - it helps to prevent RSI.
@derptweaker9452 жыл бұрын
was thinking the same.. differently the small one. But i heard that its quite allot of bugs then using with Maya. And Maya already got enough problems just like it is. So i think i let this marinate for a bit longer

Let's be honest...I purchased a 3d connexion space mouse enterprise thinking it would have been useful for my AutoCAD 3D work. I was wrong. First of all all the little buttons on this device need to be pressed several times before implementing the command you want making the workflow very slow. Secondly the rotation of the model is smooth only when you are dealing with small model built around the origin otherwise it gets absolutely messy. Third and last point the AuroCAD workflow needs several command that a modest keyboard can implement better than this expensive device because otherwise you need to switch from the 3D connexion to the keyboard making everything more complicated. Even the mouse is not so great. You can easily press the lateral buttons by mistake and the overall size is not so comfortable and need wire. I wonder why I have purchased something so useless and expensive...maybe I wanted to try getting excited by the ads...so my suggestion is to think twice. Maybe Industrial designer could find a better use but I do not encourage such an expensive device for architect! :D

Thanks for sharing your experience. While I don't use autocad, it works smooth in Rhino and would have thought that it would work just as smooth in autocad. I do find that the occasional, zoom selected (or equivalent command) helps with the 3d mouse as much as it helps with helping reset the view with a 2d mouse.

In 2 dimensions, it is the equivalent of a laptop trackpad, scrolling in all directions with 2 fingers. In other words, the use cases outside of CAD and 3D may be minimal to my knowledge
