Paul Reed Smith’s philosophy is insane then lol, no different from Molly May - £4k for a guitar is insane, people have rent, bills and food to pay for, save as much as you like they are fully unobtainable for most people

I have to assume this video was shot a few months ago, but even then I am surprised the editting left that bit in. Just today a conservative MP said "if you cant afford food, get a better job". I am sure Pete didnt mean it any way other than "hey we all love guitars, we wish everyone can get the guitar they really want" - but it came off a bit like if Boris Johnson owned a guitar shop advert. Right now we are worried about cost of living rises, people are struggling to afford common items in the shop due to price hikes, people are still hurting from lost jobs and reduction in hours since covid - ESPECIALLY in the music industry, remember how people couldnt gig for better part of two years?! But no Pete, we should all just work a little harder to get that £5000 in disposable cash. It wouldnt have been nearly as bad, but he just kept going on and on.

Oh wow. Talking about that obnoxious floral print furniture, rugs, curtains, and everything else, that was my childhood. The first house we lived in was just 70s-80s floral everywhere. Of course, I am VERY fond of that because it reminds me of home. Anyway, that thinline Telecaster very much reminds me of that American Ultra thinline Telecaster from around 2016 (17?). Our local shop had one, and I spent TWO HOURS playing it. It made me late for work, but it was SO WORTH being late. I connected with it. Alas, I could not justify the price, because it literally cost more than my car. So, it got away.

For me it’s more that the same Fender Custom Shop 5 years ago would have cost you £2,300, whereas a Gibson Custom Shop’s prices have stayed relatively consistent. For me personally now I couldn’t warrant it, but I’m in a fortunate position that I could pick up a good collection a few years ago.

That black 52' tele sure sounds amazing, but I just can't justify that price. I'm building my own soon from a road worn lake placid blue with DP51s from montys and a 5 way switch loom for about 1/2 that price.

Never been a big Fender fan even tho I've owned a couple. It just grates me that these were designed and built to be an affordable instrument so the most cost effective manufacturing process was devised to make them. Now they charge almost as much as Gibson yet you can buy a decent copy for under £150

Why is that P90 Thinline the ONLY Fender I have seen with a roasted maple neck and pearloid dots? I love that aesthetic. I have that on a mid 70’s Gibson.,.. dark maple with lighter dots. I’d love to replace my Tele neck and am considering a Warmoth neck because Fender doesn’t make that “no brainer” option. Oh yeah, and a soft V… Everyman ought to have these options with an affordable “Fender” on the headstock.

Firstly, I really love custom shop guitars. But I like a guitar with checking in the nitro and a nice worn in neck. The heavy relics just look a bit fake to me. I mean just look at Albert Collins Tele, or Springsteen's sunburst double bound Tele , they just don't look this trashed and they've played them to death. Stevie Ray's and Rory Gallagher had heavy relic style but mostly they just don't wear like these relics. The Thin line mahogany Tele is a classy relic that is about as far as anyone should venture.

The good stuff and real stuff doesn’t come cheap and shouldn’t be cheap. A fine crafted musical instrument is not a toy and the cost should reflect the quality. We are all spoiled now and don’t understand what a nice instrument costs. Try being a classical musician and check the costs of a nice oboe or cello. These are expensive because they are quality instruments that will last two lifetimes. That being said I’m happy with my used 2015 tele standard! Lol
@atanastsvetkov1530
@atanastsvetkov1530 2 жыл бұрын
Good point although I would slightly disagree. These CS Fenders are two pieces of CNC'ed wood bolted on together (mass produced) with some fairly standard hardware on them. How much time do you think the "builders" spend on the relicing - one hour per guitar tops? Leo Fender meant these guitars to be work-horse affordable instruments and, let's be honest, the design phyilosophy hasn't changed - the marketing has changed : ) Don't get me wrong, my strat is my favourite electric guitar but to compare it with a high quality, one of a kind, hand-crafted, hand-everything acoustic instrument is not fair. There is so much time and materials and knowledge that goes into it! So although I do appreciate that different people place value differently (maybe for some relicing is an art form worth paying for), the intrinsict value is just not there. It's a stange world we live in for sure.

When you own an guitar over twenty years the fretboard becomes rolled naturally. At this point your realise some day you will have to replace the fretboard. This is becoming a reality for my old American deluxe tele. These cs fenders are heavily rolled new. No guitar lasts two lifetimes unless it's an ornament.

My point may not work so well with a bolt on neck and slab body, but more so for a arch topped or hollow body instrument.

I find it bizarre that if a non-relic guitar gets a bit worn in the shop by actual people playing it, they have to discount it and sell it as B-stock. Maybe they should keep a few until they get really worn then double the price.

Great playing as ever BUT Pete please don’t bring your zero finance / it’s affordable if you’re willing to work for it bo##0x , the prices for most watchers are obscene , for wood , magnets and bit of metal , which collectors will put in cases or hang on walls to show off how much they have. Gigging , affordable ( sub £1000 ) instruments , in recent years , have improved beyond measure . I know you’re a shopping channel , end of , if this content wasn’t about selling stock it wouldn’t happen , at least Rabir had the humility to acknowledge the ridiculous price . Sorry Pete , you’re a brilliant top session player and Pro touring musician with all the stuff which comes with it ( minus fiscal reality for most ) please stop saying guitars are affordable to all , when they’re not , still love you though 😘👍

Relic guitars seem like a ridiculous concept to me at the best of times - are there genuinely people out there who'd pay four grand for a guitar that looks like it's been thrown down a flight of stairs? I'd want it to be made out of solid gold for that kind of price...
