This was so helpful. I had right tkr Aug 23 and left tkr Apr 24. While walking outside my left knee is buckling and it alarmed me but now I under why. Am going to do your stand up sit down test to see how I get on. I am 70 and from UK. I can do straight leg raises with both legs and have done this since my first op and its one of my daily excercises so that gives me confidence. Thank you

Hi Dr Sam, I’ve been a follower of yours since my TKR at the end of January ‘24. I’m writing from the UK and would like to subscribe to the Quad strengthening course starting 1 July. So UK time, when would each live class commence? I believe the classes are pre recorded so I could always choose the best time for me. Thank you, I’m finding your videos so helpful and supportive. Wish we could have you here!

Hi! Yes the classes are pre recorded. The only live aspect is the Q&A every Friday. It is 9:30AM central standard time. I believe that is around 4:30PM in the UK. Would love to have you!! www.succeedcourses.com/Exercise-class

I had a left knee revision 4/25. I have the ROM but I am having problems with stand up sit down due to pain in my inside of the knee. PT suspects fat pad syndrome. I cannot also do raising my leg straight from a sitting position. What do you suggest? Thank you.

Do some Knee Replacement Surgeries CUT the Quad muscles?? My knee replacement surgery did NOT have the Quad muscle cut, just pushed aside from what I understand. Thank You Dr Samantha Smith! Your Videos and FACEBOOK GROUP I joined have HELPED me GREATLY! I'm now 65 yrs old 22 Weeks PO!! ROM a nice 110+. 😊I'm Blessed, Delighted & Doing GREAT!! 😀🙏🦵💕

That’s the first suggestion I’ve heard of cutting muscle, sounds like a foolish idea. I have learned many surgeons use a tourniquet above the knee during the procedure. That would explain much of the pain and temporary muscle loss. My quad was dead after surgery and is slowly coming back to life. Doing well at 3 weeks.

I exercise before knee replacement

I had my right knee TKR 12 days ago. Despite intense quad exercises before surgery… I still can’t lift my operated leg even 1 inch off the bed. I’ve been doing ‘quad awakening exercises’ (mainly the one where to clench your butt muscles and push the back of the operated knee downwards) but nothing seems to have helped. It’s getting really annoying now because after 2 weeks I still have to move / lift my operated leg with a strap.

Hang in there. You'll get there.

I am three weeks out and still have to use a strap. I can barely do a straight leg lift either. I was not able to do any quad strengthening prior to surgery, so hoping the strength comes back.

I find when I walk, i wobble from side to side. What can I do for that? I had both knee replacements

Improve glute strength and hip mobility. I’d suggest the 4 Week Strength, Balance & Stretching Class for this! We have a lot of exercises in the class to improve wobble gait pattern. Here’s more info: www.succeedcourses.com/Exercise-class

What about those under 60?

I believe the data is for 60+. So you’ll just guesstimate what it would be for someone younger than 60.

Gee , nothing is free for the patient anymore. You get so tired of the cost involved with one operation. Oh well, I'll do it myself!
