Everyone is different to show you this I had a knee revision 10 months ago. A knee revision is where a knee replacement wears out and needs replacement (my first knee lasted 21 years). My surgeon told me the operation is very painful and I should be prepared. I had the op and needed mild painkillers for 1 week and then no pain. We really are all different I guess I was just lucky

Right knee replaced the third time in 2020 was a great success. Occasionally band around knee tightness that tylenol and arthritis cream gives relief . Don't ever get replacement of any joint for pain reasons period!! For there is no guarantee the pain won't be more severe and permanent afterwards. Only have replacment for total disability not just pain. I experience two failed knee replacment and the pain I lived with for 20 years was much worse than the pain before the first replacment. Life has been great after the third total replacment 4 years ago but I was told that is my last replacement and if it fails amputation is my only options. I walk 5 miles a day and keep that knee moving being a 68 year old retired man. Tylenol and occasional arthritis cream on my knee is a good life!!

Hey, thanks for your knowledge. I have had the following done… In the patellofemoral joint, he had grade 2 wear of the patella with a prominent inferior osteophyte which was removed with a burr. In the trochlea there was an extensive area of approximately 3 x 3 cm of full thickness chondral loss centrally with loose chondral flaps. These were debrided to a stable rim and the radiofrequency probe was used to bevel the edge to prevent further delamination. In the medial compartment, there was grade 2 wear of most of the medial femoral condyle with a small area medially of grade 4 wear. There was a prominent medial osteophyte which was removed with a burr. The medial meniscus was intact and there was only grade 2 wear of the medial tibial plateau. The ACL was intact. In the lateral compartment, there was also an extensive area of grade 3 wear to the lateral femoral condyle including a further area of unstable delamination which was debrided with a chondrotome and then the radiofrequency probe was used to bevel the edge. The lateral meniscus was intact and the lateral tibial plateau was also intact. And it not only didn’t work but it has made it worse to where I can barely walk. I then seen my surgeon again and he said the following… Ryan is now seven weeks after his left knee arthroscopy. As described at his surgery the articular damage was a fair bit worse than expected, particularly in the lateral femoral condyle where there was a very large loose chondral flap on the weight bearing dome. There was also advanced wear in the trochlea and to a lesser degree in the medial compartment. Unfortunately, Ryan has really struggled to recover. He is still on two crutches walking with significant antalgia and finding it very difficult to move his knee. He is still getting sharp pain as well as swelling by the end of the day and has been unable to return to work in any capacity thus far. There are no signs of infection. His range today was 0 to 90 degrees with discomfort. I have given him a corticosteroid and local anaesthetic injection. He will continue to take paracetamol as well as Mobic. I think it is going to take at least another four weeks for him to get back to suitable duties and unfortunately if things do not improve I do not see any alternative than proceeding with a knee replacement to fix his problem definitively. Prior to proceeding with this given he is at such a young age, I think it would be very reasonable to get a second opinion from another surgeon but we should see how he has responded to the cortisone injection in a month's time. Where do I go from here? Do I need a Knee replacement???

Your info on this video is a contradiction on another video re your thoughts on an ice machine
@dr.samanthasmith4 күн бұрын
Not icing is a bad idea after a knee replacement. Too much swelling after surgery and ice is imperative. People who believe ice is bad do not work with knee replacement patients.
@jacklyn44314 күн бұрын
@dr.samanthasmith do you support an ice machine or ice packs? This video you say ice machine and another you say they tend to get too cold and recommend ice packs..

HI,to date l am post operation of total left knee replacement.The following day of my surgery l had 45 ' degrees in knee range of motion. l walked approximately 30 yds with a walker.later that evening l walked approximately 40 yds .I was less guarded the second time around. Upon being discharged,l was instructed on various therapy strategies. 3 days post operation,l commenced my therapy here at home.I was successful in increasing my knee joint range in motion by 2 degrees.The following day my upper outside thigh was severely sore and bruised black and blue.l had the same response with the lower part of my outside left knee where the fibular head is located.The inflammation and bruising was Approximately 3 inches long.The inflammation and bruising l had incurred during my exercises and the existing inflammation and bruising due to TKR amplified my level of pain and stiffness.The oxycodone 1 pill every 6 hours did nothing for my pain at that time.l was constantly in and out of sleep... ultra sensitive.while in bed,l did baby foot pumps which was all l could do . Approximately 4 days later l went to physical therapy.It was, in part, beneficial due to the electric shock and stretches! To date,l have '40 degrees in range of motion and It feels like my knee doesn't want to increase in range of motion.I lament to say that l believe my knee may have fused! My inflammation and pain tolerance is down to a 5 on a scale of 1-10.My surgeon's assistance said,we may have to reopen you up again.I believe while l was in total pain , knee soreness and stiffness osteoblasts formed and created collagen: fused knee.what are your thoughts here?

5 months post op and pain is worse than three months post op . Swelling and tightness . Range of motion is static but knee cap is tracking (partial knee replacement , ) wrong position sometimes . Tightness . Swelling . Hot and cold , like circulation is affected . Standing too long does hurt so I’m listening to that . I don’t have stairs in my house so that explains my slow ability on stairs . Regret having this done . Want to do more and be pain free . Going to start gym referral at leisure centre and do aqua fit twice a week . Will it work .? I don’t think I do too much . I walk about 45 minutes and then later swell up . Ice therapy and paracetomol (Tylenol ) for pain . Not good . Very depressed . Help me . Also partial tear to quad and atrophy of miniscus . Was told they can improve , thank god . Still can’t below. How painful it is . Are the nerves damaged and can they be repaired ? Please say yes to repair .

I have both knee replacements coming (the first in three weeks). I have had RA for many years and can barely walk now (walk with a cane and can't walk very far). In other words, I have had significant chronic pain for years so I am hoping TKR improves my life.

Yea for me-This has been going on for 11 months now. Yes I’m taking gavapenten ,or how ever you spell it, 2100 mg daily. But It has gotten better for the first 10 weeks I got two hours at a time, could and did fall asleep standing up at least until I fell down, now I get 4 to 5 hours in a row. Guess this will be how it is. Dr told me to stop being a baby about it everything is fine it will always be pop and swell and keep me up that’s just normal. All we can do is more pt and or pain management. No thanks don’t want injections in my spine or them to burn my nerves every 3 to 6 months. Yep I fired her after that. Have not had the……trust? Probably a better way to say it but hope you get the idea. To find another Dr and see if anything can be done. For all of you considering a TKR-some work out fine, so Im told, but others not so much. Know that 1 out of 5 have issues with ongoing lasting pain. Just know what you’re up against beforehand. This is just my experience and frustration
