Another great video . I am five months into recovery and I do have stiffness when I stand too long. It usually gets better when I sit and bend me knee all the way under my seat. ROM is great, still pain when I walk. However, no pain when walking up and down stairs. Is this all normal?

Great video Dr. Samantha! I am still waiting for my surgery in April 2025 and doing all the pre-surgical classes of yours and getting everything in shape. Your videos have helped me tremendously understand what is going to happen and what I have to do to prepare for the best recovery. Thank you so much for all this preparation.

Well all I can say is we need people who had it done (tkr ) share, it’s easy for docs and nurses share but unless you have had it done you don’t know. I’m coming up on 4 wks post and damn it still hurts like crazy. Sleep is a nightmare, thankfully for meds. Have to get up and walk throughout the day, I’m on a cane. Its a constant ache for me still

Doctor Samantha, I am 8.5 months post TKR. I am a teacher so I am on my feet around 5-6 hours a day. My knee gets stiff and sore after a day of teaching. Some days I can't get home to the ice fast enough. Is this to be expected? Also, on days off with little activities and workouts for about an hour, I don't get this stiff and achy. Did I just answer my own question?

I’m 12 weeks post surgery and I am mostly pain-free and back to vigorous exercise with a few restrictions. I have found ways to really train my legs hard with little to no impact on my knee. The stationary bike set on high resistance has been the single most beneficial exercise I’ve done post surgery. I do get a little sore immediately after a leg workout or lots of walking but nothing like the soreness I had with my old arthritic knee. The soreness is usually gone in 24 hrs. I feel very fortunate to have recovered as quickly as I did. TKR is no joke. I wish you all the best with your recovery.

Thank you so much Dr. Sam. Your comments prior to knee surgery are so valuable and much appreciated. They relieved my anxiety as I am scheduled for TKR end of this month.😊

I had my TKR 1 year ago and barely got to 110. They tortured me to get that far. My therapist would be pushing all his weight on my knee to get to straighten it. And push with all his might to bend it. I would have tears running down my face. I had an MUA and afterwards, the swelling was as bad as after the surgery. My doctor was pretty much disgusted with me. I decided to just do my best and live my life. My other knee needs surgery, too, but not sure I ever want to go thru this torture again.

They removed your knee cap? I haven’t seen that before with a knee replacement. Usually that is a very difficult issue to have and strengthening is very challenging. You would want to work with a PT directly

I just had a complete right knee replaced on 12/23/2024. My left knee was done 2 yrs ago. Is doing better since scar tissue was removed . My right knee is so very painful. Is so swollen feels like the skin is going to split open, an is so hot there is so much bruising due to the fact I am a borderline bleeder. It is very difficult to see if it is red next to the area because everything is so purple and blue. I don’t wanna bug my surgeon, but I also don’t wanna take a chance on having a blood clot in my leg because it is so hot from my tourniquet point all the way down to my toes where I had my double bunionectomy nine weeks ago

I’m 4 months post op a partial knee replacement. I had the other knee done 2 years ago and by 3 months everything was good. But with THIS knee I keep getting swelling above my knee and next month we planned a cruise. My doc said by 5 months you will be good to go but it’s not. We planned a short hike and plan to go tubing down a river but looks like those are just a dream. Not sure what to do I have 4 more weeks. I put a compression stocking over my knee and it helps but when I take it off it swells again! Back to the crutch? Is that a good idea to take some weight off it for a while?

Some of these comments are encouraging and others not so much but since we're all different so are the Doctors which can make alot of difference in your recovery, you can't use one person's experience and expect yours to be the same way as there are too many variables that go into any surgery , I had a spinal fusion which most doctors say are more painful than any surgery and walked the next day with help from nurses but a woman next to me with the same surgery had been in bed for a week and not walked so I would say that a TKR would be comparable

I am up in Canada, 11 weeks since my TKR and still have such major pain & swelling. Here physio doesn’t begin for 6 wks. which I think is a huge setback. I am going to start your videos, and hopefully this will help as I am so tired of being in such terrible pain. I have only been getting 1-2 hours sleep per night since the surgery due to pain & I am exhausted.

There is no such thing as a perfect knee...if it was perfect, it would not degrade and wear out... Read chapter three of Genesis to see the body is cursed to destruction due to sin...while if the Lord would have cursed the spirit, no one could be redeemed by the blood of Christ Jesus...

I just want to enquire about how much knee bending is ideal for executing regualr activity just like boarding train , bus and aeroplane?? And what kind of procedure should one have to follow if one's knee bending is fixed almost 90⁰ .. is there any way to extend and increase the flexion upto 120 degree ?? Patient have had robotic tkr 3.5 months ago.. and following regular exercise ..
