i agree- im sure they got some sort of bunker buster-esque nuke on one of the ships in orbit.. But now that I think about it.... maybe the Praetorian WANTED all of those marines to die in order to weed out the 'weak'. He did say that they were just Inductii, and that he didnt consider his men to be true marines. maybe he thought that if you can beat these 'real' marines (iron warriors), you'll have what it takes to be a marine.

For being a civilization entirely dedicated to war, micro strategy seems to be a low tier concern. You never hear about anyone doing pre attack bombardments or blanket/bounding fires besides the krieg and even then the krieg don’t stop the bombardment once the assault elements make contact. I feel something largely missing from 40k is military minds being involved in the writing process and the sense of scale to actual numbers is way off. Even just orbital skirmishes should have hundreds of thousands if not millions involved and wars like Armageddon should be billions on both sides. Space marine chapters should number in the tens of millions or hundreds of millions. Custodes I am fine with being limited to 10,000, they take such time and resources as well as expert gene smiths and artisans just to create one that it’s amazing 10,000 is even possible. Not to mention they are absolutely overpowered especially with the sisters that a legion of them would end all conflict.

To be a Space Marine is a great honor and it carries a heavy burden on those who seek to become the Emperor Angels of Death, and that means that young men will be pushed to their mortal limits to achieve this goal. That is to say that while many can pass the trials of the chapter it is the surgeries of the Geneseed and the other organs that can be rejected within you, which will lead to both failure and death thus failing to achieve the goal of becoming a space marine.

In my view. The inductiii prove that guiliman was right in breaking up the legions. There were simply too many diviisons in each legion to be effective anymore. Scattered deployments. Different worlds of birth. Different eras of uplifting. Differing adherence to legion culture. And all the biases, judgements and arguments that come with this. The legions were simply too divided within themselves to function as effective fighting forces.

I think a large portion of the animosity towards inductii perhaps comes from the fact that most of the Space Marines had to undergo intense trials, such as the Trials of Fenris for the Space Wolves, but Inductii seem to have just been chosen for perhaps exemplary soldiers or maybe those who didn't quite make the cut in the Trials of their respective chapters. As a result, though they certainly had to endure the same genetic augmentations of standard Space Marines, perhaps they feel that the Inductii were given an honor that they and their brothers had to strive for. I know very little about the lore, but hopefully this doesn't step on any toes or isn't too far off the mark.

I kind of feel bad for the inductii because they didn’t have a chose in how rushed and poorly equipped they were. If they just had more time and training they would have been more effective in combat. But during the heresy time was a luxury many legions could not afford.

I just dont like Chaos... Character specific narratives and battle stories are great. I just hate the gimness and darkness of this particular part of the grim dark. Im an old soldier. Ive seen war. I dont like to sit and reminisce on the darkness of it. I love the fantastic escape this universe and its expanses offer, I just dont like the massively depressing abandon-all-hope-ye-who-enter-here'ishness parts.

That is one of the problems with some of the writers, fans and parts of the setting. It has gone past grim and dark to grim and dump in more than a few places.

I've seen combat and lost friends as well. I feel that this is necessary for the average day to day civilian to witness though. No other way will they have any concept of what a horror and utter waste war can be without accurate and jarring accounts of what combat can be like. We don't need heroic music in the background making everyone think this is a noble and honorable endeavor. We need this absolute gut wrenching bleakness to hopefully show that war is not something to be taken lightly and that there are no winners, none at all. It is too easy for society to stand back and wash it's hands of slaughter like this. I agree that for people who have lived through this type of trauma it can be depressing or triggering. Help is out there if needed and there is no shame in needing it! There is a reason I don't watch modern portrayals of war, but that does not mean that the rest of the world shouldn't see these grim and dark aspects of combat.
