in my past years of gun trading there are some we wish we kept. one I so wish I had kept was a navy arms rolling block 45-70.a 29 or 30 in barrel. the brass works, long range lift up back sights, double set triggers 13 lb . I reloaded 300gr hornady jhp with 73. 0 grains. imr 4885 for long range and 57.0 gr for target shooting. it was a dream to shoot especially creedmore style and off hand like the movie quigley down under. but I got the wonderful memories. papa wishing you well 😊

They expanded to 12 gauge diameter, pretty good. Velocity is about that of a 240 gr 44 magnum from a carbine, but 2/3 MORE weight.👍👍

I bought a remlin 1895 sbl back in 2015 and luckily it wasn't one of the lemons. It's an awesome rifle. It's a great deer cartridge up here in Maine on big northern deer. Besides the big hole, the slower heavy bullet drops them without creating a massive, explosive internal wound cavity that a faster bullet creates.

I have a 4570 1895gbl, a buffalo classic 4570 30inch barrel an love it an mag research revolver 10in barrel so im fond of 4570s. I would love to have a butt stock leather ammo sleeve with my handle on it but I'm 71 on a very very low income where I don't have $10 at end of the month so that's plum out of the question. They are really nice work.

I use 420 gr hardcast @ 1800 fps for moose, anchors them nicely. Plan to work on reloads for 300 grain Barnes full copper pills because of EU and lead ban and stuff like that

I wish Hornady and Ruger would bring back the mighty 450 Marlin. Smokes the 45-70. The old 45-70 is outdated to say the least. It hangs on thanks to the 1895 Marlins. I handload 250&300 grain TSX@ 2400+fps from 22" bbl. With threaded barrels for suppressors and brakes now easier to get. Bring the 450 Marlin Back.😮
@lurebenson77223 ай бұрын
Do you want a rifle in the 450 Marlin ? I build custom AR 10 uppers for sale and the 450 Marlin works great in the AR 10. You can even find video on KZbin of people shooting their AR 10 in 450 marlin

@@LibertysetsquareJack What ? are you too stupid to look up online the differences yourself. The 450 marlin is also chambered in bolt guns and in the AR 10

Muzzle velocity 175 fps faster than 45-70. It is loaded at higher pressure limits the 1895 can handle.
@Rigzly233 ай бұрын
It's interesting that you had issues with getting the velocity readings. I was having the same issue trying to get reading when i was working on loads for my 45-90. Have you had this issue with other 45-70 or similar big bore loads?
@masonleather_outdoors3 ай бұрын
No. I believe it’s a quirk due to the velocity being directly in a specific range that’s hard for the X1 to register.
@Rigzly233 ай бұрын
@masonoutdoors_masonleather interesting. I don't believe that is the case here, or at least not for me. The loads that I was testing were with 350 hornady interlock bullets, and the readings i got off of my DLX were all in the 2300 fps range. I have also tested loads for my 9.3x57 with 286 grain bullets that fell right into the velocity range between settings and never had this issue. It seems counterintuitive, but I'm wondering if the garmin has a harder time picking up faster big bore rounds, maybe?

how does your shoulder feel after those rounds ???

It's big, its heavy, underbore and LOW pressure . It aint quite quick. Its a massive penatrator and big hole puncher. Not for bunches of energy transfer.

thks Mason. When I look at my 44 Rem Mag white box 240gr penetration I struggle to find the value of 45-70 when you consider ammo cost and broken shoulders
@masonleather_outdoors3 ай бұрын
The 44 in a carbine/rifle is one heck of a performer for medium game at typical ranges.
@WayStedYou3 ай бұрын
This wouldnt be giving you a broken shoulder with the velocity it is giving
@mogulrider3 ай бұрын
@@WayStedYou It is a useless caliber at 100 bucks a box in my area. 44 rem mag has similar penetration as proven by Mason in his tests. Under a 100yds there is little difference in these bullets. In fact, there are many lighter thumping calibers that outperform this caliber beyond a 100yds. 30-30 does the same also. 400gr bullet for what? Makes no sense in North America when 243 drops deer to 400yds with ease
