We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls 😊 The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.
Follow our journey as we turn this old stone house into a beautiful home 😊.

I still think your the hardest working man I have ever seen. The walls are looking so nice and clean. I liked the rock wall look too but this lime/hemp render looks good also. So glad your parents helped you and Mattie out with the hard job, they also worked very hard too. Thanks for sharing.

I am watching videos like this to get insight into what is available in Italy. My son is in the process of buying an old villa by Asti. I especially like the fiberglass mesh being added for structure. There are so many positive aspects to the hempcrete covering. Enjoy the process and thank you for your posting this.

Amazing progress! You have a great team! I work in theatrical construction, and try to use sustainable materials when possible. Over the years, I have developed a plaster mixture that is quite similar to yours. Since hemp is not widely used in the United States, I used paper-pulp insulation is my “filler” ingredient. It’s incredibly inexpensive, and weighs almost nothing. We also have to let our mixture rest, so that the water is absorbed by the paper pulp. (If I’m trying to replicate a sandy or gritty texture, I’ll add ground cork, which is a byproduct of the cork industry.) We also use the same pastry-style bags in our work. I had used actual pastry bags for years, and laughed when I saw the larger and more robust version at a building supply store. I though I had invented this technique. Instead, I had stumbled upon an existing concept. I am curious why you chose not to use the cement mixer in this case. Using mixing drills looks really exhausting.

A great job, a lot of work, but everything makes sense. Only ... in my home country, electrical cables may (should) only be laid horizontally or vertically under the plaster. The transition from horizontal to vertical is made in a small box whose lid is always visible on the plaster. So even after many years you can always find out where the cables run.

I have enjoyed your journey thru your videos. I moved to a small village in central Italy 5 years ago. I did not have to do many renovations, except in the taverna (cellar) Many moisture issues because a ruin is connected to my house and the owners have let it become derelict. They have no roof anymore and water leaks into my house. But I love the never ending projects Good job, you two. You do excellent work.

@@ateliermavi Yes... we are changing out destination of the property, so we have to meet the new EU guidelines of a nearly zero energy house... which is pretty challenging with an old house like this!
@ateliermavi
@ateliermavi Жыл бұрын
@@RaisingVoyagers very challenging indeed... to reach the R value of 80mm stiferite with a natural material, you would have to use 120mm wood fiber panels (R>3). It allows vapor migration, which is important for a stone building but you lose some floor space... tough dilemma!

Impressive job on the plastering. I wish our builders had known about that material when they plastered the inside of the old part of our rustico. They used something very hard 0 cement based I'm sure and we had a lot of trouble with mufa in the winter when the warm humid air met the cold walls.

Love watching the videos and seeing the care you take with each step. Unfortunately, this episode suffers because the subtitles are not synced with the audio. The start of each subtitle section is OK but the end is left incomplete to such an extent you are not watching the video because you want to see what the last part of the audio says. 😢 One incomplete subtitle section is in place from 14:09 until 17:30 before the last word “tools” appears.
