This case resonated with me hard. My abuser got arrested twice for choking me and assaulting me and all the Connecticut justice system did was give him a slap on the wrist of 1 year probation, restraining order that they refused to renew, and 1 year of anger management classes. Despite the fact that he fully confessed to abusing other women since he was 17 and also straight up lied in court about his behavior at the workplace, he paid bail twice and the justice system didn't do ANYTHING else to stop him from harassing me at the workplace and the workplace of course favored him and didn't do anything to stop the harassment at work, even though it was all on their cameras. I hate that abusers get treated like THEY are the victims and the victims get treated like they are the criminal 😡😡 Over 3 years later today, I have been married to the most gentle, patient, loving, supportive, kind hearted, loyal husband I could ever ask for and does everything in his power to make sure I am safe for the last 3 years. @@anadeealupu1458 I did end up leaving in 2020 right when the lockdowns started because my husband couldn't stand me working there with what it was going to me mentally and physically. I had to collect unemployment because of the situation and the employer tried to go after me for 3 years after that to fight me claiming I collected for no good reason of leaving a "perfectly stable job". Luckily, I had collected all of the evidence, all of his criminal record up to as far as even 2023 after I had left, police reports on the incidents, all of the email conversations with HR about the matter, my hospital bills from the incidents, screenshots of threats from his colleges, and the email evidence of how they treated me unfairly favoring the abuser giving him the most work privilege completely disregarding my restraining AND protective order against him as well as pointing out the security cameras pointed outside my workspace showing him discreetly giving me the finger and mouthing threats towards me. Needless to say, they didn't show up to the 4th phone hearing, I presented my case and evidence and they thankfully lost. I didn't deserve to have been treated the way I did, especially from the employers who are notorious for firing people who smoke weed in their cars but hire people who are known sex offenders, predators and abusers under a GOVERNMENT LEVEL JOB. Was it the truth, or not? Or if it wasn't, maybe it still played a role in the past; therefore seemed feasible enough at the time. Anyone can rationalize, "well, she was a 26 year-old adult and can make her own decisions," blah-blah... But they'd be correct, from a _legal_ standpoint only--not a relational one. As the youngest of 5 children, I turned out to be 1 of the more stable. By the time my beloved Mother was in her late 60s, I began to worry that she would have to deal with the deaths of my older less stable siblings. Fortunately, Mother died a beautiful serene death in at-home hospice care at the age of 77. She did not have to go to her children's funerals. I feel so much empathy for Dian's Mother. If anyone has a daughter tell them to read that book. Oh he became abusive at the end, of course I tried hitting back, but I let it happened maybe 3 times & had to leave because I didn't have respect for him, hated him, & couldn't have sex with him.
