This video shows snowy winter at Belgrade - Bar railway line - one of the most scenic railway lines in Serbia and beyond. The Belgrade - Bar railway line runs through landscapes that often leave passengers breathless and for some it is more beautiful from the train driver's perspective and locomotive front view.
This video shows freight train ride from Prijepolje teretna (border control railway station between Serbia and Montenegro railways) to Požega (main freight railway station of Serbian part of Belgrade - Bar line).
This train ride is recorded at winter snowy time, which shows special scenes of calm and peaceful winter scenic nature, snow-covered mountain areas, valleys and canyons of several rivers along this route.
The line on this section crosses the great mountain pass and passes through numerous short and long tunnels, crosses many bridges, cuttings and artificial embankments, in order to overcome the difficult and wild hilly and mountainous terrain. Starting from Prijepolje, the train slowly descends the valley of the river Lim next to the lake Lim. From Priboj, the line separates from from the Lim river valley and crosses the difficult mountain terrain over the Uvac river and begins the great ascent to the Zlatibor mountain massif. On its way between Priboj and Zlatibor, the train overcomes the height difference from 400 to 800m above sea level and then descends almost 500m to the basin between Užice and Požega. The railway line was built through very steep, deep and inaccessible terrains of the Crni Rzav canyon and Semegnjevska river. In that section, numerous tunnels are lined up so that over 50% of that section is underground. On its way from Prijepolje teretna to Požega, it passes through 80 tunnels and over more than 60 bridges. The most prominent infrastructural objects are:
Railway tunnel "Goleš" (L=4964m)
Tunnel "Zlatibor" (L=6169m)
Railway bridge "Uvac" (L=303m, and height of about 70m)
Bridge "Ribnica" (L=271m)
Bridge "Vrelo" (L=237m)
A special effort during the creation of this video is the specially recorded ambient sounds as the train slowly passes through the snow-covered white landscape. The day was cloudy at the beginning of the journey, then gradually more sunshine and color appeared as the train approached its destination. The cloudy weather gave its own special charm and contrast to the snow-covered rock and stone cliffs, snow-swept tunnel concrete portals and bridges. All around the snow covered train tracks seems as if the snow has stuck to all the concrete surfaces and mountain cliffs and rocks.
This freight train was transporting coal ore from the Port of Bar, at Adriatic Sea coast, to the ironworks in Radinac. The locomotive is Siemens Vectron 193-917, 18 Eas wagons, the train mass 1256t and length 270m. All important and significant details are written in the lower part of the video, such as the current location of the train, the maximum allowed speed, speed limit and temporary slow order speed, elevation (appears during train passing through the railway station), the names and lengths of the tunnels and bridges...
The length of this journey is 115km. That journey by train takes 3 hours due to the very poor condition of the railway infrastructure of Belgrade - Bar line through Serbia. There has been no maintenance for years and the maximum permitted speed on some long sections is only 30km/h. At the end of the video, after the freight train ride has finished, the locomotive is decoupled and its complete ride to the locomotive depot in Požega is shown.
