The 2021 F150 was untunable, That was until we cracked it, and opened up a world of possibility! We've already shown that nearly 40hp is left on the table with our 93 octane tuning, and here we see if the 6.2 Chevy really is faster than the 5.0 equipped F150. But, what happens when that extra power comes in to play? Watch and see what happens!

@@mrh3085 The Chevy had a 3.23, and the Ford a 3.31, or in other words, about as evenly matched as can be. However, regardless of that, it shows exactly what we intended to show, that a tune makes a huge difference, from being 1-2 trucks behind in the Ford, for being 1-2 ahead! You need E85. One of the great things about the Coyote in the F150 is it's already setup for it, as it's a flex fuel vehicle. Also, in those first stock races the F150 stopped his pull as soon as the speeds increased, but you let off as soon as that happened, I guess to make your post-tune results look better. No the F150 didn't get it's ass whooped stock for stock, and no it wasn't a car and half length difference, you just made it appear that way. They are actually very close stock for stock. All depends on the specific trim level, options (Weight) gearing, and the gas you run. Anyhow, My 2018 F150 XLT Supercrew 4x4 5.0 running an Omega E85 tune has no problem with those 6.2's. I’ve now owed both a 6.2 Denali and a 5.0. And this 5.0 I have now has 3.73’s. And I know my stock 6.2 would run door to door with a 3.55 geared 5.0. No matter how many runs we did we were door to door. So it’s all about gearing as well. A 3.73 geared 6.2 would stomp my 3.73 geared 5.0. But my truck now will match or outrun a stock 6.2 with stock gears I’m sure. Haven’t lined up a tried yet.

However, the 5.0L is a DOHC engine and breathes much better at higher RPM than the Pushrod 6.2L, That's part of the reason these races start with the 6.2L jumping ahead but then being reeled back in by the 5.0L. @@nathanmcdonald610 incorrect, but I get where you're coming from. This narrative of DOHC being a topend monster, and OHV being stump pullers gets incorrectly pushed all the time. Coyote is topend focused because Ford's not stupid enough to try and make a 302 ci engine produce the same curve as a 376 ci SBC. If they gave it the same linear curve as a GEN5 6.2L then it would be making noticeably less power. This is why Ford specs cams and everything else to move its power to the big end. GM on the other hand specs their engines to make a broad and linear powerband. If GM spec'd a 6.2L to make a powerband to mimic a Coyotes then it would be making well north of 500 BHP. This is easy achieved with a cam swap. Hell a LT2 make 495 BHP with the same cam spec's as a L86. It's all about flow. Can you flow enough air to keep your engine happy at high RPM's? Do you want to sacrifice power in your lower RPM's to gain more power up top? The reality is, is that all your GEN3+ SBC's are more topend focused than they are stump pullers, but they do try and give you sort of a broad and linear powerband. Even an old LS1 with its 6,000 RPM redline was a topend focused engine. BTW I don't believe Coyote heads outflow GEN5 6.2L heads. GEN5 6.2L heads not touched are 330+ CFM heads as they come factory, and they port well. There have been quite a few shops to easily surpass 600 RWHP with a N/A, stock bottomend LT1, using ported factory heads. (Pray Performance, RPM, GPI, I think Vengeance among others) I guarantee you that the topend on a 600 WHP N/A LT1 is plenty impressive. If you think a OHV engine can't complete with the topend powerband of a DOHC engine (not just power from displacement, but where it's power is focused in its RPM range) then I recommended a ride in a H/C/I LS7 car. Really even a stock C6Z is impressive enough for most people. Now what you said is in general true when considering how these engines are generally produced by the OEM's. DOHC is generally reserved for your smaller displacement engines to try and flow enough air in its smaller bores to match the airflow a larger 2V engine can flow, and that requires high RPM's, and a focus there. On the other hand having large bores that house 2 large valves each can move quite a lot of air. This is why I'm not a 5.3L fan as IMO a N/A 2V engine should have at least a 4" bore. Still look at your old 5.4L SOHC engines vs the 5.3L. It was always the 5.4L making better lowend power with it's huge stroke and small bore, but on the big end a 5.3L truck would walk away from the 5.4L trucks. (Both 16V and 24V) My 03 Lightning is a strong truck, (especially for its era) but a 2V Modulars heads flow like shit with their small bores/valves. Even with only 4.6L's my Terminator is a much stronger vehicle and yields much larger and more rewarding gains mod for mod, and that mainly boils down to being because its heads flow a lot better on a Modular with their small bore diameter. To be perfectly honest I've always said that the LT1 in my SS 1LE reminded me very much of the powerband that a stock pulleyed 03/04 Cobra produces. More than any other N/A SB I've experienced it feels Terminatorish. (I have heard that a 392 ci Hemi is a torque SOB, but I've only drive that engine in a Power Wagon) It's power comes on very early, and doesn't start to fall off until right before redline. A stock Terminator probably is a little stronger very early in its RPM range, but the LT1 should start to pull away in the upper RPM's. This is to say that a LT1 (or GEN5 SBC which the 6.2L's are all the same in terms of rotating assembly's, valvetrain, block, etc. Main difference between the GEN5 truck engines and the LT1/LT2 is in the manifolds) is far from a weak engine up top. To get the most out of it you definitely don't want to short shift.

@@lightningdad13 I believe you. Your name and avatar implies that you have experienced with a GEN2 Lightning which is a mid-13 second capable truck. I've owned my 03 L for 12 years now. I bought an 18 XLT FX4 302A 5.0 CC truck back in November. It has the tow package, 3.73's/9.75" rearend, 36 gallon tank, etc. Anyway since buying it I've added a Hellwig rear anti-swaybar, Bilstein 4600 shocks, and a AMRL tune and this truck after the tune may very well outrun a stock GEN2 L. In certain scenarios it would absolutely outpace an L due to there always being a gear to keep the engine in it's powerband regardless of the MPH. The crazy thing is that with just a manifold swap and tune these trucks typically trap 4-5 MPH higher than with the stock truck manifold. It's got me thinking that my next mods might be a Bullitt manifold and TB. The doubters need to understand that just a tune with most knowledge tuners takes the factory 6,000ish RPM redline to a 7,000+ RPM redline on an otherwise bone stock engine. Even the stock GEN3 Coyote truck manifold doesn't start to loose power until after 7K. Coyotes are all about making power on the bigend and the fact that the GEN3 Coyote in the truck makes nearly 400 HP with a 6K redline is impressive when you consider that the GEN3 Coyote in the Mustang will spin too 7,500 RPM. Other than the manifolds and firing order the two engines are basically the same. Even the cams specs are similar other than being setup for their different firing order.

@@JROC734 well said. I actually have 2 Lightning trucks. one is 2002 Red and the other is 2004 black. I still have both trucks today. I've always been curious as to how the new 5.0 reacts to 3.73 gears. while it's great for towing I'm not totally convinced that it is necessary for racing. at least with the 10-speed. on my other channel I show my 2019 on a dyno. and with a stock manifold it's useless to push motor passed 6k rpm. I tried 5th, 6th and 7th gear pulls. in 7th gear it went 188mph on dyno. when the trucked was stopped I told them "let's not do that any more." he laughed and said agreed. this week I will be putting my 3/5 suspension drop on the truck. then I will start working on performance mods. I see this as nothing more as a marketing scheme. The first race he lost the jump and started pulling back. 2nd race he slept and definitely didnt lose by 1-2 cars. If you'd read the comments you'd see the only reason it "gained" stock was the Chevy hit the speed limiter. It's also a wide angle fish eye view so the lens is distorted keeping the truck in the field of view longer. The real distance between them is farther than it shows which is why we show multiple views. Sorry that a real world result video and multiple Dyno videos don't prove the gains.

@@LivernoisMotorsports well by the video timer the 1st race you were gaining on him in what i heard as only 3rd gear which ends at around 80mph. Fords limiter is 106mph, unsure about the chevys. 2nd race was more of a blowout but you lost the hit and you acknowledged spinning. I think the tune definitely helped and if you were beating him then you likely gained more than .6 tenths which is pretty good. Again any reason for not doing an e-85 tune or is that in the future?

What you are seeing is the GM hitting the speed limiter at the end on one run, and the other the chevy lifted. the fish eye lens makes it distort the image so it's hard to gauge in the video how much has changed, BUT, this was a solid 1-2 trucks outmatched stock, and turned it around to be a solid 1-2 trucks out front. Being this was our original Version 1 93 octane tuning, and we are now on version 12, you shouldn't expect it to set the world on fire.
