I currently carry the Fiochi 40 grain in my FN 5.7. I feel great about the performance. I also have a magazine of Speer gold dots and a mag of the FN 57 branded 27 grain loaded. I think I’m going to load the Gold dot mag in my 5.7. They performed very well. Great video. Exactly what I was looking for.

Also I’m pretty sure those 27 grain LF rounds aren’t designed to expand and more of tumbling inside of a target, or so I’ve heard

Interesting test a little different than others, however, not very scientific as you didn't show what rounds went through gaps in the bones and which actually hit bone or hit two layers of bones. If it's calibrated ballistics gel, as long as you have those layers of denim, anything past 12" is good. If you look at most of the tests on the FN V-Max 40 grain SS197SR rounds on properly done tests, they always achieve more than 12" of penetration. So again, FBI protocol does not use two layers of ribs. Don't get me wrong, your test is interesting, but it's a sample of one for each round and inconsistent due to the nature of the ribs having soft gaps. As such I don't think it should be used as the basis for what a person decides on for personal defense. That being said, in ALL tests, the Speer Gold Dot rounds have always performed best. Also I'm surprised you didn't test the AAC V-max rounds. One word of caution for those who use Smith & Wesson M&P 5.7 pistols,: They do NOT like AAC 5.7 ammo. Due to the gas operated rotating barrel system they use, that graphite dust covering AAC 5.7 rounds, totally jams up M&P 5.7 pistols. Every onther brand I've tried I've run hundreds of rounds with zero jams. But after 50 AAC rounds, it's always jam after jam and a much bigger mess when I clean the pistol. At any rate, personally I use the FN SS193SR V-max rounds. I stay away from the lighter grain defensive rounds because they don't penetrate well in any tests. All that being said, the standard FMJ rounds from any manufacturer will usually penetrate Level IIIA body armor quite well and usually will tumble a bit with consistent deep penetration , but not OVER penetration. It acts a lot like 5.56mm M193 ball ammo just smaller. That being said.... I'll still stick with the FN SS193SR rounds. Those are what were used in the Ft. Hood mass shooting sadly, but were shown to be quite deadly. It's the only solid real world data we have. Those who were wounded were mostly shot in limbs but the majority of those shot in the chest sadly succumbed to their wounds. There are a few police departments that have issued 5.7mm pistols, but so far I've seen only 2nd hand stories and no hard data on the effectiveness of the rounds used (and what rounds were used).

Should have shot some 22mag as well. I've seen a test where the 22mag went through a level 2 vest and the 5.7 would not. They were using the blue tipped 5.7 rounds

A 5.56 is a weak round the 5.7 is anemic
