Anyway David Chipman, yes, the David Chipman President Biden later tried to make the head of the ATF wrote these words in an opinion piece about the proposed legislation: "When it comes down to it, the only people who benefit from this dangerous policy are the gun lobby and those who wish our communities harm." Dettelbach appears to be a complete clown. But Chipman would have been a dangerous tyrant from day one. We dodged a bullet on Chipman.

I’ve seen companies have sales where they will “pay” for the tax stamp. They absolutely can afford to lower their prices by a significant margin. With all the advancements in production methods, there will also be cheaper options come to market. That competition in the market place will lower prices. Will there be a supply and demand issue causing a surge when deregulated, more than likely. But simply looking at the firearms market shows that over the years cheaper options have come to the market. You can get a m&p shield on sale for like $250. There are ar15s on the market for $3-400. When the gatekeeping is removed companies will absolutely provide cheaper alternatives. No ffl/sot will be required for manufacturing. I would not doubt that PSA would bring an affordable to the market in a timely manner. Also, let’s not forget that an oil filter is pretty effective. The use of those may even take a bite into the market for the po boys (probably insignificant, but likely measurable 1%?). There’s gonna be some backwoods hillbilly shit going on when people aren’t afraid of experimenting. The idea of a muffler is not rocket science. You’re out of your mind to deny prices will come down.

@@tonyabsoluteam3456 works pretty much just like a form 4, but no tax payment required, and has a few additional fields. In this case, there's a box you'd check for "Firearm is being transferred to a lawful heir or by operation of law" and a line for "Decedent’s Name, Address, and Date of Death" - ATF examiner will likely get in touch and request a copy of the death certificate. As mentioned, for anything I don't already have in a family trust, I've got some mostly pre-filled Form 5s in my file cabinet with my other NFA paperwork. I've used a Form 5 to transfer an inherited machine gun and it was relatively easy - and the ATF isn't going to swoop in and take the stuff as soon as the owner passes away, they're not nearly that efficient. Just do the paperwork, they'll approve it, probably give you a "sorry for your loss" somewhere in the back and forth, and that's that.

A lot of what you said is true but we currently have a lawless government. So all of those legal statements you made aren't very comforting. I'll add registering an SBR or Silencer or any other NFA item means you are now on a direct access list as owning them and where they are stored, which makes it far easier to find you when they come to take them. Think of it as having to register all of your firearms. We all say we are against universal background checks because it will create a database. Registering an NFA item IS creating a Database. Seems kind of counter intuitive.

Only really good reason to have a trust is that trustees can use the registered item outside the direct supervision of the purchaser of the can. For example, if I buy a suppressor and have it on an individual form 4, I cannot let my wife use it outside of my presence (I think the actual verbiage is "outside of direct control"). It would be BETTTER than what you can buy, You can even make a latch attachment method since you can't thread your barrel in crazy blue states. I had the problem because ATF wanted the tax for every barrel on my Gatling gun. So I had to figure out how to make one silencer for all the barrels.

The thing that burns my cork is that a state (CA) can ban suppressors entirely. It is a Federal NFA item and if you want one you pay a Federal tax under Federal jurisdiction and it is a mystery how a state law can take precedence over a federal law.
@robertsmith29569 ай бұрын
Only way I can see is you didn't buy bullets as well. That is what I can't figure out in these blue sh*tholes. Everyone should have a machine gun, or SBR so they are exempt from the state nutcase laws. They don't even attempt to ban machines guns, only scary guns that look like them.

The one thing about the Trusts. Here in WA, sbrs, suppressors, any nfa item can only be transferred once. With a Trust, there is no Transferring, therefore it can continually be passed down. State law bs

I was shocked when I got my most recent suppressor 2 weeks ago. I went in on a Tuesday to do the eform and I got a call on Thursday from my FFL saying it was approved and ready for pickup. Sure as heck beats the almost 11 months it took for my last one in 2021. With regards to them getting cheaper, the only way that will actually happen is after deregulation is there will be a flood of cheap imported crap cans hit the market, but the quality ones won't really get cheaper.

With the “Safety First “ culture that is omnipresent in the US, I haven’t been able to figure out why suppressors aren’t required especially by OSHA for security people.
@johnstraub749410 ай бұрын
From what I heard recently, the ATF has done something that actually makes sense. They have cut out the applications that have issues and are approving applications that have no problems. Approval comes in as little as a day or so. Still have the 200 dollar tax stamp per suppressor. And the cost of suppressors will not reduce anytime soon.
@DT-jz3wn10 ай бұрын
The elephant in the room regarding suppressor costs is Holding Cost. Part of the pricing of suppressors is the relative Velocity of Inventory. The amount of time that a can sits awaiting final delivery, the costs of the transfer processes and a number of other factors is what causes the pricing increase over a highly fluid marketplace.
@fattigla10 ай бұрын
The silencers that are currently available for retail sale will never go down. The Barrett semi-auto 50BMG rifles are still out of many people's budget. They require no special paperwork in most locals. There most certainly will be some cheaper cost and cheaper quality silencers made for retail if silencers are deregulated.
@cdawson19860010 ай бұрын
Barrett also has tons of military contracts, that will keep the price up alone.

@fattigla10 ай бұрын
@@DinoNucci If you read my comment, you will see that I was talking about 50 bmg rifles, not suppressors. I was drawing a correlation to some things just being expensive, due to a variety of factors, regulation not necessarily being one of them.

I had an opportunity to speak with an administrative level employee of the ATF. She was actually a nice lady, very knowledgeable, and over the course of a few days an interesting subject came up. In 2016, the ATF collected $62,596,000 in excise taxes for transfers and manufacturing of NFA items. For every $200 collected by the ATF for transfers and manufacturing, the agency expended $4,792.63. Broken down just to the industry support branch of the NFA division, that one small portion of the agency expends $316.56 for every tax stamp processed.

He also seems to think the ATF plays by the rules 🤣 They often don't, preferring instead to take their chances and deal with the violations in court if it comes to that.
@MyxeQ10 ай бұрын
Since wait times are not an advantage for trusts at this time, the only other good reason I see for an NFA trust is the ability to have multiple legal possessors of the NFA items. I have twin friends who use a trust so they can legally trade items back and forth.

Divorce is a good reason NOT to have a trust. To her it is worthless and has no value so can't use it to up her alimony.

Regarding #5... (FF to 10:38) FACT: If your survivors get caught in possession YOUR NFA items after you pass, before they've had a chance to find out about or file a n ATF Form 5, they are looking at 10 years in Hotel Graybar and a $250,0000 file. Get a Trust and add them to it.
@PrayingPanda9 ай бұрын
You're being disingenuous with your 1st point. They will be cheaper later. What people are saying is that if suppressors were deregulated/taken off the NFA, within a relatively short time (after the initial panic buy wave and subsequent drought) the popular cans that cost 700+ will be usurped by cans that do the same but cost around 350-550 max. You'll have cans that will be 200 dollars that may be good enough.

As a former Class 3 SOT dealer I've always been amazed how people talk themselves out of getting what they want. "Well yes, but I don't want to go through..." My favorite was hearing people say while I am at a show selling NFA items... "I got one of those, but I did not pay $200." To which I'd respond, "That $200 stamp will be the cheapest lawyer bill you will get if and when they catch you." Their comeback, "They'll take yours away someday." My response. "They will take yours away today if they discover yours." I'd like to add that, how often do you hear the anti-gun folks even mention the NFA? (NEVER.) The NFA has always been an item that the government prefers the illusion that you cannot own these things. Even Biden continues with the myth. It does not fit the antis "BAN" agenda.

i can see how people would believe they could be cheaper / less expensive only due to more manufactures would start making them, a couple of stamped steel welded or machine cut threaded baffles.... i just bought a 22lr silencer for 250 im sure 80-150 range isnt impossible. at that price point it beats some muzzle prices but again i wouldnt expect a "quiet" high quality / durable product, but anything is better than nothing? the current manufactures would probably offer a " cheaper " solution to be competitive but their proven top cans wont drop. I think it would be the same way optics are theres +$1000 red dots and theres $20-100 red dot / reflexes the companies that make +1k products arent dropping their prices becuase cvlife or cylee or fake vortex company made something but as consumers we get a wider range of prices that might be the step to buying higher quality parts or just an intro into that market.

Michigan put into its law when it legalized SBRs and SBSs that we must show local and State law enforcement proof of ownership (Form 1 or Form 4) when we have the weapons/suppressors. If we don't have the forms, then law enforcement can immediately confiscate the weapons and we have 40 days to bring proof.
