Back in 2016 or 2017 there was a legislative attempt to remove suppressors from the NFA. I don't recall the name of the legislation. Anyway David Chipman, yes, the David Chipman President Biden later tried to make the head of the ATF wrote these words in an opinion piece about the proposed legislation: "When it comes down to it, the only people who benefit from this dangerous policy are the gun lobby and those who wish our communities harm." Dettelbach appears to be a complete clown. But Chipman would have been a dangerous tyrant from day one. We dodged a bullet on Chipman.

Fun to use and shoot various calibers, but let's be real here, it's not like people tend to think it is like it's portrayed in the movies. I'd definitely much rather shoot with a suppressor versus a muzzle brake, I'm sure others next to me would say the same, but it's not like I'm gonna throw a suppressor on a 300WM and shoot something all while we only hear a little laser sound we would hear in the movies, that shit is still gonna make a loud ass crack. If anything, it'll eliminate all or most of any flash report and any concussion one may find uncomfortable.

As much as I'd love to have more open access to suppressors, adopting that level of regulation is worse.

I’ve seen companies have sales where they will “pay” for the tax stamp. They absolutely can afford to lower their prices by a significant margin. With all the advancements in production methods, there will also be cheaper options come to market. That competition in the market place will lower prices. Will there be a supply and demand issue causing a surge when deregulated, more than likely. But simply looking at the firearms market shows that over the years cheaper options have come to the market. You can get a m&p shield on sale for like $250. There are ar15s on the market for $3-400. When the gatekeeping is removed companies will absolutely provide cheaper alternatives. No ffl/sot will be required for manufacturing. I would not doubt that PSA would bring an affordable to the market in a timely manner. Also, let’s not forget that an oil filter is pretty effective. The use of those may even take a bite into the market for the po boys (probably insignificant, but likely measurable 1%?). There’s gonna be some backwoods hillbilly shit going on when people aren’t afraid of experimenting. The idea of a muffler is not rocket science. You’re out of your mind to deny prices will come down.

@tangoprime
@tangoprime 9 ай бұрын
@@tonyabsoluteam3456 works pretty much just like a form 4, but no tax payment required, and has a few additional fields. In this case, there's a box you'd check for "Firearm is being transferred to a lawful heir or by operation of law" and a line for "Decedent’s Name, Address, and Date of Death" - ATF examiner will likely get in touch and request a copy of the death certificate. As mentioned, for anything I don't already have in a family trust, I've got some mostly pre-filled Form 5s in my file cabinet with my other NFA paperwork. I've used a Form 5 to transfer an inherited machine gun and it was relatively easy - and the ATF isn't going to swoop in and take the stuff as soon as the owner passes away, they're not nearly that efficient. Just do the paperwork, they'll approve it, probably give you a "sorry for your loss" somewhere in the back and forth, and that's that.

I've always been told that a $100 suppressor would be good enough to get most firearms below the decibel levels that hurt your hearing, but no one makes them because there's no reason to make a $100 can that costs $300 with a tax stamp. So it's not that today's $700 suppressor will suddenly plummet to $100, it's that the $100 suppressor will suddenly exist.

I think what you might actually see are cheap rimfire and pistol cans. The low pressure, aluminum cans could be made cheaper but I think they’d only exist in a nfa free world. No one would buy a budget suppressor that was fragile or required low firing schedules if they had to pay for another stamp when they dropped their pistol one time and bent their can. But if a rimfire can was $200 and no stamp it could be considered almost like a disposable item. My two cents

Sure, you could wait until they are an over-the-counter purchase, but you are depriving yourself of a lot of fun over $200. Shooting is expensive, in the long run $200 ain’t much. Silencer shop has the process down to using their kiosk/atm-style machines. And once you’re in their system, you can just do it all online for future purchases. Add to that, wait times are down to 1-10 days in most areas. You should reconsider, you’re missing out on a heck of a lot of fun. Cheers!🍻

A lot of what you said is true but we currently have a lawless government. So all of those legal statements you made aren't very comforting. I'll add registering an SBR or Silencer or any other NFA item means you are now on a direct access list as owning them and where they are stored, which makes it far easier to find you when they come to take them. Think of it as having to register all of your firearms. We all say we are against universal background checks because it will create a database. Registering an NFA item IS creating a Database. Seems kind of counter intuitive.

In Switzerland you need a "may issue" permit from the cantonal police to purchase up to 3 silencers (around 110 USD fee) from the same seller. They are less restrictive in delivering permits now, at least in some cantons. Prices are starting at 50 bucks for a cheap .22 can and go up to 900-1000 for B&T RBS, and 2k for titanium suppressors.

The suppressors in Europe where guns are heavily regulated but suppressors are not, they tend to have lower prices. However the reason is that in the USA where it might take 13 months (thanks ATF) to get and cost a $200 tax stamp we tend to buy extremely high quality suppressors that cost more because we can't just run down and pick up a replacement.

Only really good reason to have a trust is that trustees can use the registered item outside the direct supervision of the purchaser of the can. For example, if I buy a suppressor and have it on an individual form 4, I cannot let my wife use it outside of my presence (I think the actual verbiage is "outside of direct control"). However, if she is a trustee on the trust, she can legally be in possession of the suppressor outside of my presence.

I mainly wait because my current suppressor meets my needs and I don’t like spending $1k if I’m not forced to. Suppressors will drop considerably in cost if they stop being regulated. Though some manufacturers may not be able to keep their doors open because they can’t mass produce items as cost efficient as other manufacturers when the market explodes and then settles but the day they aren’t regulated, manufacturers won’t be same to take a lunch break for years trying to net demand. All things regulated are much more expensive, look at cars, food, health care, etc in other countries.

Theyre not getting rid of NFA items, the challenge is if those things _ARE_ (or create) NFA items. Theyre not getting rid of braces, theyre treating braces as stocks, but theyre not removing SBRs. Bumpstocks are touchy because of the Hughes Amendment but theyre trying to eliminate pre-86 transferables.

My point is, he said "they're trying to increase the number of people on the registry so that they can change the rule and create a whole bunch of felons . Well, the thing about that is that would require an act of Congress." That is exactly what they have done with the pistol braces rule, the bumpstock rule, and the machine gun rule. Pistol braces have been lawful for years. So have bumpstocks. Lightning links were unlawful but drawings on metal were not. I know that in the 1990s you could buy a tube with the print of the cutouts to make a STEN receiver bonded to it. If you owned the parts to assemble it, it was then unlawful. They just don't think they need Congress to get involved and that's not what the Constitution says.

Deregulation would initially drive prices up due to demand and lack of supply. Afterwards people would probably start manufacturing them since it's now legal to do so and it would then drive prices down due to competition opening up. Hell you could make your own for less than $50 if you have the knowledge. It won't be better than what you could buy, but it would still work.

From what I heard recently, the ATF has done something that actually makes sense. They have cut out the applications that have issues and are approving applications that have no problems. The elephant in the room regarding suppressor costs is Holding Cost. Part of the pricing of suppressors is the relative Velocity of Inventory. The amount of time that a can sits awaiting final delivery, the costs of the transfer processes and a number of other factors is what causes the pricing increase over a highly fluid marketplace.

I had an opportunity to speak with an administrative level employee of the ATF. She was actually a nice lady, very knowledgeable, and over the course of a few days an interesting subject came up. In 2016, the ATF collected $62,596,000 in excise taxes for transfers and manufacturing of NFA items. For every $200 collected by the ATF for transfers and manufacturing, the agency expended $4,792.63. Broken down just to the industry support branch of the NFA division, that one small portion of the agency expends $316.56 for every tax stamp processed.

You're being disingenuous with your 1st point. They will be cheaper later. What people are saying is that if suppressors were deregulated/taken off the NFA, within a relatively short time (after the initial panic buy wave and subsequent drought) the popular cans that cost 700+ will be usurped by cans that do the same but cost around 350-550 max. You'll have cans that will be 200 dollars that may be good enough.

My favorite was hearing people say while I am at a show selling NFA items... "I got one of those, but I did not pay $200." To which I'd respond, "That $200 stamp will be the cheapest lawyer bill you will get if and when they catch you." Their comeback, "They'll take yours away someday." My response. "They will take yours away today if they discover yours." I'd like to add that, how often do you hear the anti-gun folks even mention the NFA? (NEVER.) The NFA has always been an item that the government prefers the illusion that you cannot own these things. Even Biden continues with the myth. It does not fit the antis "BAN" agenda.

I think it would be the same way optics are theres +$1000 red dots and theres $20-100 red dot / reflexes the companies that make +1k products arent dropping their prices becuase cvlife or cylee or fake vortex company made something but as consumers we get a wider range of prices that might be the step to buying higher quality parts or just an intro into that market.
