I cover my venting for the steam all the time I'm glad I watched your video. The last time I did it I gave myself a pretty good burn on the finger. What is your recommendation for when you want to turn the vent knob should a spoon be used to be safe to just turn it instead of your hand. Well I did learn this the hard way. Have a good night!

I just recently purchased a 3 quart mini Insta pot and it is taking me about two months to educate myself on the right procedures to use this amazing appliance, I have cooked boiled eggs and fingerling potatoes in my Insta pot but yesterday I decided to cook a 2 pound pork roast in my Insta pot, I had followed all the instructions of the sauté feature and followed the guidelines and my pork roast was so tender and then I used to sauté feature to thicken my broth that came off the pork roast that I had used a liquid which was black tea, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal of an Insta pot pork roast which only cooked for 35 minutes. I also boil eggs in my steamer basket that I got as an accessory they are perfect boiled eggs and the shells just literally fall off of themOh. Thank you for all your good advice and I love your enthusiasm

Two more tips that I've seen happen, even if it's in the instructions that people don't read. 1. Do not put the lid on when using saute function. 2. Do not deep fry in oil with this pot!

I just received an Instant Pot for Christmas and I'm so happy and excited. The first thing I wanted to cook (besides hard boiled eggs haha - I guess I'm not that brave after all) was Chinese food. My dad used to make the BEST Chinese food and a staple ingredient has always been ginger. So when I found another channel and the guy was making beef broccoli but didn't add ginger, I had to keep looking. *lol* I'm glad I found you. The first thing you started slicing up was GINGER for your beef broccoli and I said "Yes, this is my girl." :) I'm going to make it tonight. Wish me luck!!

I have a knock-off Instant Pot (Crux brand by Macy's) with a nonstick inner pot, so it is that much easier to get confused because the liner and the outer pot is the exact same color & material! I'm glad I watched this video and know what to avoid doing, as I'm just getting started in this "fan club" cooking with a pressure cooker!

I made a cover for 2 stove burners since I am mostly raw vegan and don't need. I got a very large ceramic rectangular tile from Home Depot that matched my decor and removed the burner hardware so that expanded my countertop nicely. Easy to keep clean too.

Hi Flo, some sensible advice for all varieties of instant pots. I'm so old that I still have an actual pressure cooker - but I'm saving a few bucks a month from my disability pension toward one of the "new style." I have something to add to your point about stove tops. Several years ago I saw a laminated wood platform (Baribocraft, I think), a bit like a small cutting board except that it had 4 heatproof stand-off "feet" on the underside, and a lip around the top side (they'd routed out a flat-bottomed area in the center, leaving a rim). This was on display at a kitchen show in Edmonton - I'd gone in looking for some knives & other items but I saw this, with an Instant Pot parked on top, and thought, "what a good idea." or something like that. It was well made and not expensive. I don't know if it's still in the Baribo product line (I don't get to many kitchen shows or stores), but it might be worth a look. The feet on this were both heat proof and non-scratching, which is important. DIY'ing one with rubber feet would not be a good idea!). I enjoy your recipes and hints a lot. Thanks to you and Dude for making this excellent content. I haven't re-watched your video about the "best" instant pot recently - I wanted to wait until the "collection fund" was a bit closer to having enough $. Regards from northern Alberta this Victoria Day.

One time I poured some water into the base without the liner. I was in a rush and forgot that I had removed it. Luckily it dried out and has worked well ever since. To avoid that mistake, whenever I remove the liner I now put the lid on top of the empty base as a reminder. So far I haven't repeated that mistake.

My old pot liner was a dark steel gray (same color as inside) and I poured liquid gravy broth in it and literally blew the circuit and pot. It was too hard to distinguish, dark and dark. I have also put a kitchen towel over the vent when I tried a spaghetti recipe (advised by the website) because some people had sauce spattering out of the vent! Guess I won't do that again! I'll just take it out to the lawn when I do the quick release :-).

I recently bought an Instant Pot Lux Mini and was searching the web for "how to's" and recipes As an Asian food lover many of your dishes came up... Followed my nose and found your website. Today I happened upon and watched "Your Story" and had to remark how refreshing to see two positive Christian based folks, with a purpose, quietly doing your mission... As an older Atheist Jew and twitter freak all I read and see is the far right evangelical point of view... As I said you both are refreshingly sane and genuinely nice people no pushing an agenda... Going out now to buy your suggested foodstuffs for one of your rib recipes :) My regards... Barry

Another very important tip is to never "submerge" the "instant pot" in water if you have to clean it. When the pressure pot has completely cooled and is unplugged, use a damp soapy dishcloth to clean the inner surface and towel dry when through. Allowed to thoroughly air dry before putting the lid back on top for storage.

Omg wear makes your think this chic is correct just bc she made a video? She's wrong. Covering it is not obstructing the vent, its catching any of the debris that flys out, hence the reason to cover it. Obstructing it would be something keeping it from opening or plugging it up. A cloth or something wet isn't going to cause a malfunction or situation. It's just to have weight with something to contain the stuff elected by the pressure release, which is actually preferred to not be instant but rather naturally slowly let down. Your comment was like that State Farm insurance commercial with the girl and her French model boyfriend lolol. Not being ugly here
@justaguy4real
@justaguy4real 4 жыл бұрын
Ya without covering it stuff spews everywhere. I typically let it naturally depressurize, but I'll cover it if needs to be quick. Thousand times covering with no issue.

Good job Flo! I have seen those mishaps too. I have to say that sometimes when I will be sauteing and the steam and vapors need a place to go, then I place a wooden board on my gas stove and remove the knobs on that side so that I don't accidently bump the knobs turning them on. 😉 Now go cook something for Dude....lol 😁

I experienced the not enough liquid thing this weekend, and the pot wouldn't pressurize yet still counted down. I added a jar of pre-made butter chicken sauce - I thought it was liquidy enough but it was not, so even some sauces need to be watered down.

But at the same time you don't want to dilute the sauce. Have you tried my butter chicken from scratch? It's pretty easy... you may never go back to jar. kzbin.info/www/bejne/noGsq6mPlt1qnJI

I can’t believe people do these things. Don’t they read any instructions? I do have a question I just purchased the Lux , have not used it I am taking it back and getting Instant Pot Duo plus but what I want to know is do things stick in this pot, is it hard to clean? I know I had stainless cookware and it was a nightmare. Does it need to be sprayed with something like Pam? I understand that you use oil in the bottom. Thank you for your informative you tubes they are very informative and you sound so professional when you and your husband record them.
@FloLum
@FloLum 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Dawn! Things can stick to the pot just like any stainless steel pot but the trick is to get your pot/pan hot enough before adding oil and cooking food. I can fry an egg in a stainless steel frying pan without sticking when I heat it up enough first. If you are not pre-searing, make sure you have enough liquid to create pressure. I use the IP for rice all the time and some rice grains will be stuck on the pot in the end but giving it a good soak will get it all off easily. Hope that helps!

I was baking the other day and using the instant pot. Then I set the lid on the back burner and melted the corner. So need to be careful with the old electric stoves. That one back burner vents all the heat out. I have no counter space so my stove is usually the extra counter.

I put my instant pot on my stove while both of them were not being used.. and cold.. but it looked like when I was cleaning the stove knobs one of them was a little moved so the element was getting warm.. and it happened that I put my instant pot on that very one..🙄 I smelled the smoke and ran to find the bottom of my instant pot melted and the wires were out.. 😣 Thank goodness no fire happened and I just lost my new instant pot after a week of buying it.. and I had to buy another one 😑 The positive side : I have some spare parts now. 😂😜

I actually did toss some liquid broth into the pot without the liner and I immediately turned it over and dried it out for a day without using it because I didn't know how encased the wiring was in the interior mechanics. I don't know why there are so many negative reviews. It's just another cooking tool. I like it for what it does. It's an electric pressure cooker and there are lots of brands out there. I poured CORN SYRUP into IP without the liner. Oops. :-( Wiped it out with damp cloth and then unscrewed the bottom cover and wiped out around the wires, etc., as best as possible. Qtips helped with that. Then, as we had ANTS, I left the IP where the ants would notice it and they finished the job. That was about two years ago. The IP still works great. I now toss a dishtowel (or something else that will be very visible) into the empty IP when the liner is not in it. ;-)

LOL! 🔥🔥🔥I’d like to see a video where someone turned on their gas stove, while the IP was in mid cycle! KaaaBbbooooooommmmmm! Gee, I guess that wasn’t such a great idea, after all...huh?🥵 I don’t know how the IP would even pressurize without the ring. Without it, it would just hiss. Isn’t that a built in safety feature? I’ve read that covering the steam vent isn’t recommended, though there are many videos and online suggestions to do so! I’ve done it, but sparingly. I didn’t know it could make the IP malfunction. In order to avoid this tactic, I’ve purchased a steam diverter. I had initially placed the IP on our gas stove, right under the hood/vent. But I knew it wasn’t the best place for it, so I moved it next to the stove and when I do a QR, I place the diverter on the vent and aim it toward the stove vent. It helps from blasting it under our cabinets and under cabinet lighting. There are several types of steam diverter so, most which don’t make sense, as they disperse the steam out in two or more areas, defeating the purpose of directing the steam in one direction, where the stove vent can best suck the steam as quickly as possible. My steam diverter is a silicone piece, shaped like an “L” or elbow and it works great? The best tip here. WTF?! Not putting the liner in the IP?! WOW! Now, those folks obviously are high on something, perhaps they have Alzheimer’s (very sad) or have no clue about basic safety of cooking! It’s the last group which is the saddest all, because they’re naturally stupid. ☹️. As for the druggies, well...they pay for abusing substances in so many ways...🤮.🥴🥵🥶.....💩. This is your brain....🐣this is your brain on drugs...🍳🤯!

I think I read all the comments looking for this answer: When using a pot in pot, how much water in the liner is enough. You use the phrase enough, but without a comparison, I have nothing to judge it by. I have had my Instant Pot for 3 days and gearing up with knowledge first.

Someone said to plug in the cooker before use. I thought mine came already plugged in. So confusing! JUST KIDDING! I can see where people think it's okay to use the inner pot on the stove, though. It is a well-made pot in and of itself. The fact that it has no handles should've been their first clue.

I have a question, why is it sometimes I don’t come to pressure because the small silver float valve never went up. I followed your instructions to a T. I only got it to go up by spinning the lid on and off really quickly..thanks

I’m thinking about buying one , what size should I get for a family of 4?

I have had 2 - 6qt models for 4 years and recently purchased the 8qt and put one of the 6qts away. I've found the 6qt is fine for my family of 3 adults and 2 kids. Now that I have the 8qt, I find it helps when sometimes my recipes are too full for the 6qt. Does that help?

Flo Lum he did it like 3 times in as many years. He subconsciously kept thinking it was a conventional kettle. And he didn’t even drink.

Flo, not all of us are as tall as you. With today's countertops and the height of the Instant Pot, many of us are standing on our toes to saute our meat. What would be a great Instant Pot cooking *stool*? Love your channel, but don't forget Dude's spam recipes.

What about the level of the food inside the pot... that can be an issue as well.

When I vent the steam, turn it away from the wood cabinets. I saw a product, looked like an elbow joint used in plumbing to stick on top of the vent to direct the steam. Have you heard of this and is it safe?

Thanks, I don't need it, just have the steam safely pointed away. Though there is one that looked like a dragon that was fun to look at.

Can you use a Pyrex Pot in an Instant Pot?

I'm a bit weary of Pyrex... I've had one burst in the oven once and I've heard others who have had theirs burst in the IP.
