I don't think there is much point having the city in the postal address. Most people in Queensland would live in Brisbane, most people in Victoria would live in Melbourne etc. The state numbering system you may have noticed extends to radio station callsigns too. Brisbane 4000 has 4BC, Melbourne 3000 has 3AW, Perth 6000 has 6PR etc.

In regards to magpies. Talk to them. They recognise faces and voices. If you’re kind to them they’ll often introduce you to their families especially their youngings. They only swoop when they feel threatened or they’re trying to protect their young. I love when the magpies congregate in my front yard. The only magpies I don’t like are those magpies from Collingwood.

Some fun facts for you. Magpies in the UK are Corvids ( part of the crow family) with a limited, raucous vocal range. Magpies in Australia are Artimedae. They have a complex ' language' of beautiful calls, including the distinctive warbling. They are different species. Australian Magpies actually recognise human faces and know their local humans. You don't get swooped if you are ' local' to their nesting tree. Likewise with plovers. We have had a nesting pair at our primary school every nesting season for decades. They never swoop the children.

Interesting. I liked the topics you chose. I think Brisbane is just unnecessary to the post workers. The postcoce says it all. However, if your friends were wanting to know geographically where you were, you'd include it for them.

You are correct about the address - you only need to put your suburb, state and postcode. Each State has a different first number so all Queensland postcodes start with 4 and all NSW start with 2 etc. There are some suburbs with the same or very similar names in different States but putting the State and postcode should ensure success. Having said that, once I had a correctly addressed parcel sent to Townsville instead of my suburb as the electronic reader somehow misinterpreted the postcode and the suburb name was quite similar! Australia Post isn’t always perfect but they do have a very large geographical area to service. I do not think dentistry is free for all children but there is or was a mobile free school dentistry service in at least some locations for primary school age children. Also, there is a free dental service scheme for essential dentistry for people on a low income. I don’t know much about it but it exists. Private health funds covering dentistry usually include two free checkups and cleans per year so there is no gap fee for those if you have private health cover. Hope this helps.

You don’t normally put your city or full state name in your address. It normally just finishes with suburb, state abbreviation (e.g QLD or NSW) then postcode. The city is not needed by Australia Post because the postcode belongs to the suburb or town and this completely identifies the location. The postcode should be clearly positioned on bottom right of the address for the sorting machine to locate easily and envelopes often have the 4 little boxes for it preprinted. If not just put it clearly at the end of last line with suburb state postcode when addressing a letter.

You don't put the city in the address. All you need is the postcode - you could perhaps leave out the suburb, but it's always possible that several suburbs share a postcode. We share with the next suburb (which is a bit larger than ours) for example.

Australian and British magpies are different species. Australian one probably called a magpie by early settlers because of the black and white colouring similar to the British version they knew. The masked lapwing makes its nest on the ground for some reason so when it suddenly attacks you for no apparent reason it is because it has a nest with eggs on the ground nearby. It has spurs on the front of its wings so be a bit careful but I haven’t heard of anyone being injured by them. The swooping magpie of course is also protecting its eggs or young but its nest is in the trees you are passing by.

I think the quality of doctors in Brisbane is, as a whole, at a very high standard. Unfortunately rural Qld is struggling due to lack of numbers available so I imagine their ability to achieve this same standard would be stretched due to a lack of resources. It's getting very hard to find a fully bulk billed doctor these days, again due to lack of government funding although many will still bulk bill children and pensioners. We pay $50 a visit (up front) then medicare refund $21 back into our account within 30 seconds of the transaction being processed at the counter. Can't complain about a $29 bill especially as you say, one is very rarely unable to get a same day appointment. Just to be clear, medical treatment in Australia is NOT FREE. Everyone who earns > $18,300 will pay a 1.5% medicare levy when processing your annual tax return. Most people will not notice this as it is already calculated in your weekly pay deductions so it's not like you pay a lump sum come tax time (this is probably different for self employed workers) The govt has also introduced an additional 1% medicare surplus for higher income workers. I'm not sure of the figures but it's something like $120-125k for an individual or $150-160k for a combined family income? They cleverly offer a medicare rebate to not pay the additional 1% (which would not be included in your weekly tax deductions so you may be hit with this additional charge at the end of the financial year) by opting into private health insurance. When you do the math it's usually benificial to take private health insurance as you would be paying a large amount of this cost as a medicare surcharge anyway. This is one big reason why many Australians have private health insurance (as a tax deduction) This has a 2 fold effect. Those on higher incomes have a slightly better health cover with a shorter wait time for elective surgery and the government is no longer paying for the higher income earners therefore more of the budget can be used for treating the people who need it the most (lower income workers) That's how it works in theory anyway, but like all systems still has plenty of flaws and gaps that need to be corrected. I've just seen too many videos from people saying health care in Australia is free. Many of our current issues seem to come back to lack of funding so I imagine sometime in the near future the Medicare levy will be increased from 1.5% to 2% to try fill this cost gap?
