5 hrs is nothing. I sous vide some cuts of beef for more than a day. If you're really cheap like I am, try $2.99/lb chuck steak sous vide at 132F for 30 hrs (about 50 cents of electricity). Amazing. After slicing, most guests think I spent 4 times that. If you don't have the time, you can probably get by with 8 hours.

@@gigiveittome so from my experience of being a person who sucks at cooking, it can go down like this: -you burn your steak and have to restart -you mess up the cooking process and have to restart (I tried cooking my steak with butter, and it ended up looking like it was boiled. fun times) -you spend copious amounts of time rummaging in your kitchen because you have no idea where the ingredients are. this comes with a high chance of getting distracted by finding something you forgot about -you check the recipe every 5 minutes because you have no idea what you're doing and hope you're doing it right. hopefully -you find that you don't actually have some of the ingredients, and at this stage, you either a) improvise (it all goes downhill from here due to terrible replacement choices), or b) go to the store and buy it. Chances are that you choose A because you're lazy :D

Remember, for steak, as long as the exterior is cooked, you’re good. If you’re cooking small pieces, I find it’s one of the easiest meats since you don’t have to stress about it being cooked enough, and it’s delicious as long as you don’t go past medium
