I've enjoyed learning about Bendigo Thompson since moving to Nottingham a few years ago, and visiting his memorial lion. Supposedly there was a statue of him in Sneinton, but I wasn't able to find it on a casual drive through. And somewhat related is Thomas Parkyns, whom I was introduced to through your videos, and came from a village not far away. One day I'll make the trip out to see his memorial.

The construction of those gloves is interesting, rather than being a mitten they seem to be fingered gloves with a large pad sewn on to the back. I wonder if this style of glove would allow you to form a proper fist and how much dexterity it would have when compared to a modern boxing glove, one of those point karate gloves, or an MMA glove.

différence is that at the time high level fighters were pretty rare. Nowadays you have dozen and dozen elite level athlètes in various domains, so who would you chose and why? What criterias do you use, character and victory record or cultural impact? If talking of boxing, do you go for Dempsey, Tyson or Mayweather ? I don't think today's fighters are less worthy, they are just plently now.
