@@crashwelder5337 Ilya died. Tragic incident. He made blades for a pasta maker. Made the pasta. Ate it. Began choking. They began the Heimlich. The pasta began to come up... but the spaghetti was just so loooong that by the time the other end was clear, he had been gone for several minutes.

There are 2 types of videos I'd really love to see from you both if you're able- 1) Engraving 101 by Ilya- the different types of engraving chisels, how to use those types effectively, how to make your own, how to discern good from bad when buying them, etc. I'm having a hard time finding chisels actually intended for engraving steel online. 2) Grinding 101 with Matt- how to achieve nice straight lines on the grinding wheel by hand, the different types of abrasives and what they're good for, and just general technique. Boiling it in what?
@Erpyrikk
@Erpyrikk 11 ай бұрын
@@ThatWorks boiling rusted iron in water converts the red rust (iron3 oxide) in direct contact with the iron into black oxide(iron2 oxide) and soften up the rust that's not in direct contact allowing for easier removal. this is part of the process used in bluing older firearms. Mark Novak uses it as a standard treatment when restoring old firearms to keep the original bluing that hasn't been damaged intact. i have used this method myself when cleaning up old tools and while not fast it does give nice blued finishes.

I always appreciate watching a restoration video! The backwards handle maybe was because the peen was the side that got more use? And the head was upside down so it could get into a tight space? Or whoever did it was just wrong/not paying attention! Oh, and about handles - a little wood glue on the wedge before it goes in makes it slide in very nicely! I've also heard people said the handle should go in dry, so the oil swells the wood and makes the tightest possible fit. I think it depends on the size of the handle, really!
