Didn't think the paint was as bad you made it out to be...until I finally got to ride mine. You were so right. The paint scratches, swirls and scuffs so easily. I literally rode it for the first time today for maybe 20 miles and the paint on the tank is already scuffing off from wear my leather jacket rubbed against it. Considering BMW charges outrageous amounts for their paint you would think it would be super durable but nope. Worst paint job I've seen ever seen on a bike. They need to warn people that you need to get it clear coated or wrapped with ppf before you even attempt to ride it because this is ridiculous. Also warning to everyone, its stupid expensive if you have to repair anything. I did some preventative research and priced how much a simple tip over would cost and its around $2000+ and thats for minimal damage and if you do the work yourself. So if you get an s1k do yourself a favor and get all the protection you can. It will be cheaper than if you actually have to fix something. Breakdown cost of a simple tip over for points of contact depending the side: $160 clutch lever $480 winglet(painted) $360 stator/clutch cover $100 for bar ends/sliders $340 upper side fairing(painted) $340 lower side fairing(painted) $400-500 mirror $900-1000 exhaust can God help you if you scratch/dent the tank- $2300 Oh and thats if the parts are even available considering bmw likes yo stop sale on their parts for no reason. I could repair a tip over for a japanese bike tor a couple hundred. Hell you could buy a ninja 400 for the price to fix some scratches on the s1k lol. Im refusing to ride my s1k until the rest of my protection comes in.

Pinned your comment because of how true it is, a lot of people called me an asshole because I said “this isn’t for somebody who works minimum wage”. It’s just facts. The paint is horrible on it but it has a meaning, this is all in all a race bike and the paint/clear coat should be super thin to reduce weight. HOWEVER BMW knows that a lot of s1000s don’t even go on the track, it wouldn’t hurt to put more layers of clear coat on it. As well as I have frame sliders on my bike, it has saved me so much money simply because of how short I am and how tall the bike is. My girlfriend will get on the back a little weird and I lose my balance, not proud to say it but I have dropped my bike twice already from that. Thankfully it was no damage to the fairings at all, just my frame sliders and my bar end, otherwise I’d be in the hole like you said $4,000 already. My bike is ceramic coated but that unfortunately has not helped paint chips from rocks on the front end, there are atleast 4 small ones it’s irritating but I plan on getting it professionally repainted in the future. I also get my bike professionally detailed once a year during spring time to get all the swirls out and such, they come back within a week but it’s peace of mind for me. I know how to clean a bike properly but they are so inevitable, you can’t do anything (besides PPF) to stop it. I’m glad you noticed the same thing, it sucks. With all that being said I wouldn’t trade my S1K for any other bike and I still am very happy with the performance aspect and everything else. Thankfully I have not had any mechanical failures that have cost me money, cause that would be tough considering I ride my bike almost everyday in the summer to make KZbin videos and go to work. HOWEVER the 2023 has 2 recalls for the bike as of right now, the front brake lever for the billet package as well as the water pump to my knowledge. NEITHER of them have been in stock at my local dealership for a WHOLE YEAR. Pretty ridiculous.
@jvillain9946
@jvillain9946 8 ай бұрын
@@s1kdk I didn't know about the water pump recall. Should probably get that checked out. Thx for the heads up. On a different note I have found a fairing company that can do a full set with winglets for about $800 and match the black metal storm paint if I ever need. If I can remember I drop a link

Hey guys. I've owned three S1000RRs and I have a fourth one on order right now. I'm almost 60 years old and I disagree about the comfort. I've put tens of thousands of miles often times touring on my S1000RRs including with saddlebags etc. I've had three back surgeries and have a horrible back but I don't have any back pain while riding or after riding my S1000RR. The only significant modification I've made to help are adding small risers that don't require any rewiring and when I ride I ride with my chest on the tank. I also adjust my rear sets to be as high up and back as possible. As far as the 600 mi break-in, to me that's just a one or two day ride on some slower back roads and then I'm done. I don't think it's a big deal at all. The flat range between 4,000 and 8,000 RPMs has never bothered me. I use those RPMs for when I'm in chill mode. If I'm trying to bust it, I'm at 8,000 RPMs or above anyway. But I have to admit I am now curious about tuning and will check that out for sure.

Dont know where you are coming from but this bike is the most comfortable 1000cc sportbike on the market, period! SuperSports are not really meant to ride passengers. Oil change can be done by you for like $80 for good synthetic oil and filter. Exhaust, all you need is headers from Arrow for $900-$1400, SS or TI. Akra headers will set you back some more. You dont even have to change the muffler with those headers saving you money. Insurance, you are very young buying one of the most powerful bikes out there, so yeah you are going to pay! I pay $52 month for mine and thats very high coverage 100/300 with underinsured/uninsured coverage plus only 100/500 deductables. As far as restrictions, every damn 1000cc SS bikes are heavy restricted no matter the brand and you will have to get a flash tune! If you own this bike I highly recommend buying a GS911 to work on things yourself, pays for itself in one oil change!

I actually sat on the 2023 s1000rr and the 2017 s1000rr at the dealer today. The 2017 was more comfortable. It had me in a more upright position. The 2023 wasn't that bad to me but not as comfortable as the 2017. However the 2023 is bad ass compared to the 2017. The electronics and looks are subperb. Too bad the dealer didn't allow test rides. Now i have to decide in a reasonable fashion on which bike to get b4 they are sold. I'm 5'8 by the way so that might had something to do with it as well.

Out of all the litre bikes I’ve owned. The 2024 s1000rr was the most comfortable in my opinion. The panigale (had rear sets) was a nightmare on rides longer than 1 hour, the R1 was decent but bearable, the zx10r was just very cramped but upright, and the fireblade almost has same comfort as s1000rr. Beautiful and amazing bike, no doubt. but the value just isn’t there. Especially considering other great liter bikes one can get for thousands less than the Beamer. Much of the extra cost is in the BMW name and logo. I’ve heard about those $300+ oil changes. On a bike??? That’s nuts! I bought a brand new 2024 Hayabusa back in June. Slapped a bunch of mods on it right away, including a Brock’s full exhaust. Including the cost of the bike itself, I likely have around $23k into it, which is still not as much as a bone stock S1000RR. Of course I installed all the loads myself, including the exhaust swap. You really should do your own maintenance, especially considering the expense of it on a Beamer.

Every other review I saw said this is the most comfortable sports bike. So I don't agree with this guy about comfortable it must be his first bike. All sports bikes are not comfortable but I sports bike. I saw some reviews where this one's better for taller riders like myself also. I had the 2015 double r r. I could ride that for 2 hours without stopping and I'm 38 6'6. So that's what I'm sure I can do more especially with the adjustable pegs on the M class bike

You forgot to mention these bikes are eating motors like crazy. BMW stole the K5 GSX-R 1000, electrified it, but forgot to steal the reliability part from Suzuki. What a shame. Do your homework on the amount of blown engines before buying this extremely expensive bike. It could change your life in a not so good way unless you have a disposable income.

BMW is having problems. A quick search of KZbin turned me away from this bike. Two people shelling out $15,000 for new engines when the grenaded engines are clearly BMW's fault . Do you think the S1000RR is okay as a first motorcycle? I'm getting into the sport, and I want to get your opinion on what you think about this. (I obviously heard that it's better to start off with a smaller cc bike and go up from there. I really like the S1000RR though, and if it's something that I can start on with care and humbleness, I would love to.)
@s1kdk
@s1kdk Жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t recommend it, you will more then likely die. You are going to drop your first bike, with a smaller less expensive bike it’s no big deal that’s what starter bikes are for. If you drop this bike, it will cost you $1,000+ just to fix the fairings. This is America though and you can do what you want, but please consider working your way up. You will have a better understanding of bikes in general starting from a smaller CC. They are more forgiving and you can learn the basics. This bike is not forgiving at all. If you dump the clutch while trying to start in first (a lot of people do when they first start off because they don’t understand) you will INSTANTLY go into a wheelie and loop the bike. Damaging it and more importantly yourself. If anything this bike will SCARE you away from wanting to ride more because of how much raw power it has. I recommend a CBR 300R for starters or a ZX4R. Perfect bikes to start on and learn the fundamentals!
