Agave nectar is not a traditional ingredient in a margarita, triple sec is though

Agave is just a marketing gimmick; regular simple syrup is fine, but triple sec should definitely be in a margarita. And it should go through a fine strainer before serving it "up". And the simple syrup should be added proportionately to the lime juice, not to the tequila. The tequila can be varied depending on how strong you want the drink to be, but if you vary the lime to sugar ratio you end up with a margarita that is either too sweet or too sour.

But yeah I feel llike 2:1:1 tequila:lime:cointreau is the standard I see? I prefer 4:2:2:1 tequila:lime:cointreau:simple just because I have a sweet tooth, but if I was the expert I'd at least mention that it's not the traditional way :P
