If your LED strip is connected to the TV’s USB port each time you power on the Apple TV (HDMI ARC) it will power on the TV & 5V+ USB port. Voilà. The closest thing to Siri commands would be a Homekit compatible Power Surge, this will only give power toggle functionality. Hope this helps.

Can’t get the lights to change color to the app suggestion. Using LIFX lights. Set them to the app color in the shortcut, but it stays last color when I turned it off previously.

This is considered a personal shortcut so whoever asks Siri to run the shortcut, Siri will look for that shortcut on their phone. If my wife tries to run this shortcut it won’t work since it’s not on her phone

These are really awesome walk-throughs, so thank you very much. I followed your steps exactly, however, Siri isn’t playing the speak text action from my HomePod mini but through my iPhone instead. I’ve tried adding a “set playback destination” action to try and get it to run through the HomePod speaker but no dice. Do you know how to fix this or what may be the problem? It’s quite frustrating. You’ll have to screen record that message and extra the audio then add it to an Apple Music library and sync to cloud as a song. I demoed this briefly i think in my nfc tag HomePod video. I might actually make a more in-depth video on this. Thanks for watching! 😊

the apple tv connects via hdmi port on the tv and siri recognizes since it's added as an accessory the home app

Good find! Question though: When using handoff to HomePod, my iPhone begins playing as well. Any idea why or how to prevent it?

If the iPhone is close to the HomePod sometimes it’ll hand off back to the iPhone. There’s a setting to disable this in settings, I can’t remember where exactly but search for handoff in the settings search bar and it should come up. Thanks for watching! 😊

Hey, great video. I’m just starting to figure out shortcuts. One thing I’d love to be able to do is trigger a shortcut when I push a button on the Apple TV (handheld) remote. Example: when I press pause, I want that action (of pressing the play/pause button on my remote) to trigger a shortcut scene - a bit like your take a break/I’m back - but the trigger isn’t voice activated, its when I press the remote control button. Does that make sense? And is it possible 🤔 Thanks for making these videos. There’s a few ideas in this video I’m also going to try.

It seems a bit buggy to designate which Apple TV you want. I have 2, and I don’t want it to ask me each time which Apple TV we’re talking about. When I press and hold on the “AppleTV” in order to pick which one, I only get a choice between - Ask each time - Shortcut input Sometimes when clicking around, I will see a list come up to let me choose, but then it doesn’t remember my choice in the shortcut. Great content and a very useful video. I’ve been searching how to use a Siri command to turn on my Apple TV and open and app and this was perfect. But when I try to set it up I select the open apps on Apple TV > select my Apple TV and the app defaults to The TV app. When I click on it I get the error “open app on the Apple TV was unable to get the list of apps form Apple TV. Make sure your Apple TV is running the latest software. I can confirm my software is up to date and I and using the same iCloud account on both my phone and Apple TV. Any help on the issue would be great.

Not quiet. You can have it turn on a HomeKit tv on the ATV input or just wake the ATV, and open the KZbin app, but it can’t play a show automatically :/

Not a shortcut but an automation yes. You can use a diff trigger to turn on the tv and have it auto turn off after 10 mins, or use time of day or tell Siri. There’s multiple ways :)

@@AdamsTechLife shouldn’t be the Wi-Fi signal as the router is in the next room. So it’s pretty close. It’s the xfinity router that came with my cable so maybe Some incompatibility there. It’s my one hesitation to getting more HomePod minis throughout the house, I don’t want to have to walk around unplugging and plugging them back in to get the use out of them. I subscribed to your channel and plan on using some of your tutorials on how to make some good shortcuts and things of that nature
