I still love a lot of the older war games: Carriers at War, Steel Panthers, Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, and Bandit Kings of Ancient China. I'd love to see these games updated to modern graphics.

Sudden Strike 4 was quite underrated: not spectacular, but a solid rts experience! I've enjoyed the desert expansion with the italian troops

It was better than i expected and has a lot of content if it is picked up today! Its surrounded on this list by some quite hardcore wargames though :)

Pavlov's House (Bookmark Games) is along the same lines at Castle Itter. DVG Games and is a very good game.

Richard Berg and Mark Herman were my heroes back in the days of actual tabletop wargaming. SPI, Victory Games and later GMT (How I wish we could see SPQR made into a computer game. or any of the other GBoH games).

I have 4 of these 6, certainly not forgotten in my book 😊 Digital Castle Itter is GREAT! (They also make Pavlov’s House). Carrier Battles, in depth seek and destroy - excellent! Sudden Death I need to play more of. I have the board version of RBM Gettysburg, simplistic yet not easy. A good game for sure.

Great choices! I still consider SGS Heia Safari the very best of the SGS games, and my favorite. I just got my copy of "Schutztruppe" from Compass Games to carry on the struggle of Gen. Lettow-Vorbeck leading the Entente around Africa by the nose. Also, huge fan of Rise of the White Sun - I just need to spend more time with it, as currently I get stomped pretty quickly.

@@LTGamingKZbin yes it can be found on the matrix site, there's a YT channel, campaign series legion, i think it's only one programmer working on it, using the old engine. Vietnam came out in 2022 and middle east in 2023, edit updates i mean.

Sudden Strike 4 is actually worse than SS3. SS3 with the BATUS mod is just beyond ssd4 and really fun, still hard. You actually have a lot more troops to command, larger maps and more challenging missions. SS4 is really leaning towards a more arcade experience. However, I agree that SS4 is better than SS3 if they both are in their unmodable state. Thanks for a nice video!

@@LTGamingKZbin I had bought in since it went live on Early Access...and it's good! Can play either as the Brits or Germans. Fixed missions though and no dynamic campaign, but its good tactical warfare at the platoon level with armor and support. It felt as if the AI 'knew' where your LoS was at all times which was frustrating, but that was a long while ago. Good stuff...certainly a buy....and especially when it goes on sale.

Sudden Strike 4 "featuring bigger battlefields, more units"? To me SS 3 was more of a successor (tho not as nice looking) than SS 4. The first two are the real OGs imo. Edit: Hidden & Dangerous 2 is quite a gem!

played WARZONE 2100 recently, still a gem of a game and its freeware now too. I hope they fix this always online thing on MEN OF WAR 2 since I haven't got a internet connection right now, played all the betas and absolutely loved them all. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? what a shame

Excellent list except that Sudden Strike is an RTS and not a wargame per se. I had no idea Castle Itter was out. I loved the Pavlov House and eagerly waiting for the others on the series.

I talk about every game from a personel angle. I don't think I could be anymore passionate about RBM Studio Gettysburg and Castle Itter. This is a list video and is aimed to be concise hence the success of this channel. An utterly ridiculous comment demonstrating that you didn't watch the video 🤷‍♂️ You couldn't possibly know about these gems unless you are super deep into playing this stuff everyday.
