Well look at that new background, the effort being put into the channel is clear ! I’ve only been a subscriber for the last 3 or 4 months but watch every video.

I got a whoop bc of you - have had it a few months now and I love it. My sleep has always been a struggle and this has been super helpful.

I think Garmin does the "health data" just fine. I'm not sure why people find it bulky. Woop isn't worth the subscription on going cost, IMO.

I agree it’s ‘fine’ - but body battery data doesn’t sync across devices (some does), isn’t as simplified in terms of action to take, and relies on you having your watch on all the time which doesn’t work for me personally! Hence whoop on all the time + Garmin for training. I cover the Garmin v Whoop comparison specifically here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZCWmZRuq9JkjsU Not in any way invalidating your take at all btw - just sharing my perspective for comparison 🤙🏼

That subscription model is the biggest dealbreaker for me, say you use it for 5 years, at that point the Fenix 7 looks like a budget offer, and as you say. You still have to have an extra watch for the workouts. Offers to little for many people to be worth that. But also, biggest respect for finding what you like. That’s the main thing.

Agreed. Covered the same in my own review video. Nice and simple device, but a subscription based model is not for most people.

Had whoop for 9 months but due to the static data (only one metric update per day, no real time fluctuations) the new insights are very limited after a couple months you can predict your HRV and sleep performance without looking at the app. Also the hearth rate sensor is very inaccurate compared to a garmin. If you use the whoop for fitness it most of the time will not auto detect the activities. For endurance its a bit better. Overall they are very good in marketing but not worth the price.

Often have both (fenix 7x and whoop 4) and the garmin reckons I'm dead by half 7 with body battery at 5 or whatever, whoop is like yeah your recovery was pretty good crack on mate

Personally, already owning a Garmin Fenix, and having done a free trial of Whoop, I do not find Whoop to be worth the cost AT ALL. ( 55CAD)

Thanks for this. I just moved to a Garmin 955 from my whoop 4.0. I believe Garmin for its readiness score takes into account more parameters like sleep, training , hrv etc over a longer period of time vs the whoop. Where recovery is basis sleep and hrv overnight. Your thoughts.

They’re not a straight swap - that’s the misconception I aim to tackle here! The problem with Garmin (for me personally) is body battery data syncing across devices, I don’t want to wear it ALL the time (which you have to if you want to rely on the data), and making assumptions about training/load/goals that are generalised rather than individual. Hence - I use whoop to simplify lifestyle, and Garmin (+Wahoo on my bike) to simplify training tracking. I then consolidate this into Training Peaks where my training is housed so it can be individualised with suitable context. I cover the Whoop v Garmin debate here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZCWmZRuq9JkjsU

@@ferguscrawley95 thank you for your reply. ive decided to go all in with the Garmin - sleep tracking, training, daily wear as a smart watch for notification. The reason for choosing the 955 over the Fenix line up was that its lighter and easier to sleep with. I really like the Whoop interface on the app but did miss the training data on the wrist when running or cycling. And in general having a watch. I did try wearing a samsung watch + Whoop on each wrist but honestly that became an overkill for my binary brain lol. thanks again, love your content and outlook to life. inspiring !!

company support is non existent. The strap stopped working in three weeks. No phone support, just email. Whoop has successfully made the USPS faster than email.

thanks Fergus, I have to look into this more, as my sleep is often trashy....I sleep for 2 to 3 hours then wake for 3 and then back for 2 or 3 more. Merry Christmas to you & your loves ones. Have a terrific holiday !!!

@@klausleber6178 Fair, I take mine and my garmin off for lifting, especially lifts where I'm using straps or wraps. Which would apply to the whoop as well.

I've had my Whoop for just over a month now thanks to the discount you offered. Really happy with it and definitely giving useful insights into sleep and recovery. The other really useful thing is the broadcast heart rate feature, which sends your heart rate data to your other devices via bluetooth. I use a Suunto 5 which doesn't have a great wrist HR monitor so I now I get the more consistent information on there through my Whoop strap... bonus!

wearing it in the whoop underwear makes it more accurate (assuming you're wearing appropriately sized apparel). It stays tight to skin 100% of time, while exercising especially, so it is more accurate.

Hi Fergus, I enjoy your content very much (both Vlog and podcast) however I have two questions. Garmins these days do also measure these metrics that you mention here (sleep, respiration, recovery etc…) Do you think the whoop is more accurate on these? If you already had a Garmin watch to measure these would you still invest in the Whoop subscription? Thank you 😊

Having both and an apple watch they are all pretty accurate. I would say that apple and whoop are better at sleep tracking than garmin tho. Obviously the watches offer more for you in terms of tracking workouts and smart watch features so it just depends what you want. If you want strictly recovery tracking I would say just go with whoop to keep it simple (also more comfortable to wear at night) but if you want a full tracking experience including workouts then go with a garmin or apple watch depending what you’re interested in
