Luxury cars usually update themselves continuously to keep on the bleeding edge, the A5 takes a step back. For now, Audi's Sport coupe/hatch/convertible thing takes a simple, high quality approach to premium, and I'm all for it. It's unique in today's market so let's evaluate it once more before its impending redesign to see how it competes in a segment of fierce competitors like the BMW 3 series, Mercedes C Class, Genesis G70, Volvo S60 and more!
Thank you, Josh and Royal on the Eastside, for letting me test drive the Audis for today's video!

As an owner of a 2022 A4 45 with the Black Optics Plus package, I can agree that these compact Audi sedans and sportbacks are underrated and holding up very well. It's quick, comfortable, efficient, and mine being in Navarra Blue, looks awesome.

I was looking for an S5, but I bought a very low mileage, three year old (at the time) 2019 CPO A5 coupe. Could not be happier. Best car I've ever owned. Luxury performance and great mileage. Occasionally beats my wife's 3023 CRV Hybrid. If you can live with two doors, they're a great bargain, as dealers often have a hard time selling them.

Got a 2023 A5 sportback in November here in Canada. Packaged with 20" rims and tires. Super happy with the purchase. Love the practicality and it doesn't feel underpowered at all. Was able to negotiate 6k off MSRP and got prepaid maintenance included. I barely see any changes for 2024, so I'm glad I didn't wait!

I have always loved Audi's for some reason. I would be happy with an A3.
@drw1926

If you don't mind my 2 cents...as an Audi tech, I would advise getting at least an A4 over an A3. You're getting much more car for the money. For less than $5k difference in price you get more space, better materials and tech, upgraded components, and much better performance (A3 201hp/221tq vs A4 45 261hp/273tq). A3 Premium Plus w/Tech Pkg $45.1k, A4 Premium Plus 45, $48.8k. Just a more premium vehicle in the A4...no way in the world I would take an A3 over an A4, unless I was absolutely in love with the A3 styling, or cost was the prime consideration over everything else.

I'm an Audi tech and I see and work on these every day...we sell and service far more Sportbacks than coupes, but the Sportback's proportions and lines have always looked somewhat awkward to me, compared to the coupe. I realize that people have families, or may just want the convenience that 4 doors provide. But I would recommend anyone seriously shopping these to compare the two side by side and make the decision for yourself, rather than casually dismissing the coupe as a car for single guys, or couples with no kids.

I decided to treat myself to a luxury car rental for a 1,200 roundtrip road trip back in December. I was given a 2024 Alfa Romeo Guilia. I hated it for the first 20 miles and then absolutely fell in love. It's been the best car I've ever driven. Doing that same 1,200 mile road trip again this weekend and tried to get another Alfa Romeo, but was given the A5 sedan. A bit disappointed that it's not the Alfa Romeo Guilia, but hopefully this car will leave a wonderful long-lasting impression as well.

Audi is holding back on new platforms and redesigns during the ev transition. All gas vehicles has been just going through refreshes like a4, q8, and upcoming q7. But their ea888 have continued to get improved tuning. Standard sports suspension makes sense as everyone wanting a soft drive are going suvs already
@Realistick
@Realistick 2 ай бұрын
**only standard with the 45* it makes sense to keep it sporty but I was hoping they’d at least offer another setup that’s adaptive on a car that can cost $60k! That’s a pretty accurate theory, I do believe the A5 is getting a full redesign soon but I’d honestly prefer a refresh that just addresses the few drawbacks to the car. I feel like audi might just go full digital if they did a ground up redesign.
@anotheran

@@Realistick I'd be surprised if it's a redesign. I'm leaning more towards a refresh like the 2020 q7. Get the dual touch screen infotainment, sharper front and rear more like the rs6

I had a 2013 a6 and really loved that car. I didn’t like the digital cockpit and move to touch controls. This car still gets analog gauges and the simple but elegant interior is tough to beat. Thanks for sharing.

I own a 2024 A5 Prestige and thus far I’m very pleased. My last Audi was the original 1996 A4 so it’s been a while. After driving it for a few months, I can see why this is easily their best selling non SUV. The only thing I find disappointing is that Audi pulls the same move as Porsche by nickel and diming you to death. I have a prestige as I mentioned, but it doesn’t have red brake calipers or ventilated seats because of the specific package. Regardless, I’ve noticed that resale value for these is well above average and I’m hoping Audi doesn’t miss the mark on the redesign because these cars are gorgeous. Oh and I agree with another commentor who said that VW is prioritizing EV‘s right now and only doing refreshes. That’s pretty obvious so let’s hope that the VW line gets some interesting new redesigns.

It was also more fun and quicker with the GT but less reliable (oddly enough) and not quite as luxurious imo. It was kind of a doomed product upon release but a cool effort. I would have loved to make a comparison with it back in the day🥸

Life is too short to burden oneself with the multiple failures owners are more likely to suffer through with German automotive products than those from the brands noted for long-term reliability. But they do keep "Diagnose Dan" in business and his viewers entertained as we try to come up with the solution to some sap's nightmare before Dan's great reveal.

I’d never buy a car with a bad reputation either but the current A5 HAS proved itself over the last 7 years to be better than what you would expect. I did the research for the video but you can check the owner reviews, CR, NHTSA reports or carcomplaints.com if you don’t believe me. Life’s also too short to drive cars we don’t like.

I think that's an inaccurate generalization. As a fairly long-term owner (and member of several Audi forums), I never experienced major problems, and they don't seem to be prevalent issues on the forums either. I think you'd find that most problems are anecdotal, rather than systematic. I've owned two Audis ('13 A3 and '19 A5) for the past ten years. No major problems at all. Zero. After about 100k miles, the '13 started using a bit more oil. I'd occasionally have to add a quart before the 10k mi change. That was it for problems. So far, the A5 has been stellar. I had FAR more problems with past Ford and Subaru vehicles. Both had serious problems and recalls. They were less expensive to purchase, but they cost far more in the long run. YMMV.

I own a pre mild 12V 'hybrid' 2018 A4 45 S-line and it's really smooth, we also had Q5 from that year.. We currently have a brand new Q5 with 12V system, seems like Audi has changed the transmission mapping, it holds gear and doesn't upshift going up or down moderately steep grades. Really annoying because the A4 doesn't do this and neither did the old Q5
@Realistick
