YES 👏🏼 I feel this so much. I’ve always been known as the smart kid by my peers and friends but the people in my family were always smarter than me and also I have like, little to no common sense at times. I’m scared of the day when my friends come to me for advice but I genuinely don’t know what to say and I’d either have to come up with something on the spot or just tell them “I don’t know. I can’t help you” I’ve always been someone where I feel like if I’m not giving them practical advice to actually better there situations I am not o help and I’m nothing but a burden. Like, unless my friends communicate that they just want me to listen, I will try and give advice. Like honestly I feel imposter syndrome in almost all core aspects of my life. So sorry for rambling I’m having a bit of a eureka moment now that I actually have a name for what I’ve been feeling for like 3 years :w:’’

@tadh73954 жыл бұрын
you don’t need to be officially diagnosed to study/understand concepts like this! as long as you have peace of mind with what you think you have and you’re educated on it self diagnosis is okay. it only extends to being toxic when people publicly claim to have something they weren’t diagnosed with. i’m never gonna see a therapist due to #beingpoor and a lack of therapy places anyway, you have something to look forward to! remember to be grateful even though it’s shit

@bakugoisdabestboi8684 жыл бұрын
I do that last one A LOT. Im art classes I always look at others' drawings and feel like they are much better than me and that I have no talent in drawing. Another thing is.. At the past, I had barely one friend and now I have finally a group of friends. But whenever a friend of mine tells me about their friends that aren't in our group of friends I always think "how many friends do they have" "Do they have more than me?" "Am I just a loner again?" "How many friends do I have? 5.. But I rarely hang out with them after school. They hang out all the time" "They have much more than me" and blah blah. When my friend tells me I'm good at drawing I never believe them cause I compare myself to other much more talented people than me. And it sucks..
@bakugoisdabestboi8684 жыл бұрын
Sorry for bad English btw 😅
@thatoneguy45844 жыл бұрын
I n the past, I was in a group of 3 friends. One left, and moved away, so it was only 2 people left. We were good friends, but we couldn't do much with two people. He finally went to another group, and I was left alome. This went on for months until I finally went to a bunch of groups to make friends. It wasn't fulfilling though, and I felt like I had to be the funniest person in the groups, and be in all of them at the same time. Finally, I couldn't take it and say alone for one month, then I decided to be good friends with only one group to put my energy into. I still feel lonely, even though they are great friends. I always feel like I'm not being good enough in the group and that I need to be nicer. I'm a social introvert an d hsp, so it's very hard for me to stay social, but I try. My point is it's ok to not be the one with the most friends, and it's ok if you aren't always feeling up to it and need to be the best of the best, because that's what friends are for; the people you can let your guard down to, the people who are fine with you being yourself. I hope this helped you, or at least someone, and have a nice day.
@XMewMoonLightAkitaoX4 жыл бұрын
Honestly... same here. Except I start to wonder if they think that friend is better and if they will eventually choose them over me. I'm not a funny person (at least it seems that way because people usually just overlook my jokes), I hardly have any relatable hobbies to share. Everyone seems to follow these trends or have a large number of experiences and there's just the simple old me. Your English is really good.

Brace yourselves if your going to read this... As much as I’d like to think of this as just a Among Us reference and based video (and I love it), what terrifies me is that after I watched this, I realize how I really am and what I might have. Oh, and I know the things aren’t in order, but the numbers are the signs. 1) In a way I relate, I don’t think I deserve to live a happy and fortunate life. Sometimes I wish I could trade lives with someone who has never had certain luxury’s I have ( maybe have disabilities ) and gone through so much pain, physical, social or mental; whatever it is. They could finally be free from pain they thought will last forever, be able to have all their senses and not be afraid to do things they couldn’t have before. Make friends and live a normal ( well not exactly normal in these times ) but soon have a hopefully fun and happy school life. 2) I’m becoming a perfectionist by the second of the new year and putting so much more work into assignments then I’m supposed to ( more then just my hardest effort ), procrastinating when I can’t get things done and have terrible anxiety, going to sleep late, which is very abnormal for me. 3) I’ve even been scared the moment someone finds out I’m not as smart or don’t know as much as I seem, and theirs nothing but jokes behind my glasses ( yeah, I wear glasses). Lots of times I feel like I’m just a fraud in all my Extended classes sometimes, no matter how many times I raise my hand or answer questions in deliberate manners. 4) Usually I’m okay with getting a few questions wrong or making a minor mistake, and understand deeply that I can’t be good at everything, but now I’m replaying my stupid accidents over and over that no one would make. I feel like I’m just a fraud in all my Extended classes sometimes, no matter how many times I raise my hand or answer questions. Always having a truck load of negativity on me and self-doubt. 5) This goes with four too, but yes I do feel as I have to be the best and not because someone told me too. I try to do it so I can be up their with the geniuses and overly talented people, maybe just my siblings. I think I’m over doing it. 6) Then I’m comparing myself everyday to a strait A-Honor Student (my older sister) who even does everything around the house and my younger brother whose been solving Rubik’s cubes and coding since Seven years old ( still in elementary.) I love my family so much but I just think I’m a grumpy, mediocre middle child ( not to any other middle child out their or anyone else bc y’all amazing ❤️). It’s my first year of Middle School, of Sixth Grade. So why did I just realize I’ve been feeling this way? I don’t think it’s what I actually think, but it kind of hurts. Thank you so much Psych2Go, I’ve been watching you for 2 years now, you help me understand what is happening to me and why I feel certain ways. And thank you fellow viewer for reading this rant about me.

hey, you should try speaking to someone about this. it sounds like you're really struggling and this is negatively impacting your life and mental wellbeing. i promise you do deserve good things. you don't have to 'earn' it. as a disabled person myself (i'm autistic and probably disabled by a few other things too), i read your first point and have some thoughts. disabled people aren't to be pitied. our lives aren't all miserable. majority of us aren't in pain 24/7. we can still do things - yeah, maybe not everything an abled/neurotypical person can and with a few modifications - but we can still have friends, jobs, relationships, be happy, have fun, and do well in school. i don't deny that we have struggles and hardships that come from inaccessible societies, but we can still lead relatively 'normal' lives. forgive me if i misunderstood and i sincerely hope this does not sound rude, i am not saying that you yourself are mean or rude. just offering my thoughts from the perspective of someone who is disabled, as you mention people with disabilities in your first point. maybe i'm misreading it. i seriously hope you find happiness soon, and trust me, you 100% deserve it.
@randomstuffs30604 жыл бұрын
@@ToffeeCookieKittyKat yes I agree with the what you just said, I haven't been diagnosed but I probably have at least ADHD and autism, (and I've done my good deal of research including research from people with ADHD and autism) and also probably have social anxiety and or anxiety. but im not gonna self diagnose and tell people I 100% have these things, im just highly suspecting I do. but what you said, I do agree with. yea, I do do things I don't want to/ didn't meant to do sometimes, take along time to finish things, etc. but all in all disorders and disabilities DO effect your life, but not always in a bad way.
@ToffeeCookieKittyKat4 жыл бұрын
@@randomstuffs3060 agreed, thank you for sharing! i hope you can get an assessment or professional diagnosis someday if that's something you're interested in, but i 100% understand the barriers to diagnosis. you're valid with or without a diagnosis!

After I suffered a mental breakdown in college and then diagnosed with a neurological condition, for many years I suffered what I suppose you could call imposter syndrome. I felt all my academic achievements leading up to getting into and finishing college were just massive flukes, and that my undiagnosed hidden disability and learning difficulties should have stopped me from getting that far. I even left my college years off my resume when applying for minimum wage jobs because I felt nobody would believe I was college material. I gave myself no credit whatsoever. It wasn’t until about 12 years later I was finally able to look back on this early period of my life and appreciate all that I had done and the stories I could be telling people instead of short changing myself.

The beauty of the impostor syndrome is you vacillate between extreme egomania and a complete feeling of: ‘I’m a fraud! Oh God, they’re on to me! I’m a fraud!’ . . . just try to ride the egomania when it comes and enjoy it, and then slide through the idea of fraud.

I’m a perfectionist AND a procrastinator which usually ends up in a mental breakdown the night before something is due because it’s not perfect, and I don’t have anymore time to work on it. I am afraid of being exposed as fake. Every thinks I’m a try hard who is super smart, but honestly, I just rely on my memory and luck. I do fear failure, one time I had a panic attack in class because I forgot my homework at my house. I had to go home sick because no one knew what was wrong with me. I need to bet the best, again, the perfectionist thing where it all needs to be perfect. I always compare myself to others. When I finally think I’m good at something (not often) and I’m proud of it, all I can think is “but they’re so much better.”

One more thing is that I can't usually do things I really want to becouse my heart tells me that it is useless becouse I will never be good at it anyways, or I can't do it all and I will still fail. Now I struggle with my homeworks or drawing becouse I feel like I will fail anyways. It leads to procrastination yeas. Any ideas how to cure myself from this?
@jess-gf2hd4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say you have it just yet. This was only a small 5 minute video covering the basics of imposter syndrome. These symptoms could be a part of another illness. I’d recommend doing more research on it though, and if you feel like you may have it after the research i’d recommend telling an adult you can trust, and to get help from a professional. Phsyc2go has stated multiple times that these videos aren’t an alternative for a diagnosis, so if you truly feel like you may have imposter syndrome, you should speak to someone about it. Also, mental illness isn’t something that you can just “cure” by yourself. You need actual help for things like this.

I have impostor syndrome and its a major pain. I play cello and i got accepted into a symphony at 16 years old while i was in high school. I was the youngest member. I just got accepted into a music school after auditioning and got into a cello master class and because i just couldn't believe it i watched my audition tape. Baaaaad mistake. I thought it was terrible and scratchy and my B was flast alot and i felt i didn't deserve to be accepted into a music school. Ive had countless things proving im good at cello, got into a symphony at 16, got into a master cello class, got into a music school, was always first chair, was told by a symphony member ruth im better then her and i still believe im not good. Its a serious issue to have impostor syndrome. No matter how much evidence you have piling up you never believe it.

4 and 5 are the ones that I have. At school I'm a pretty good student, I've gotten the highest honor 2 times in a row, because of that pressure started building up, my parents kept telling me these words "you're the top 1 many people are expecting from you, many people are trying to be better than you" these gave me alot of anxiety during tests, I kept re-checking my answer and I would kept thinking I would fail and disappoint my family. At contests I start to shiver and mumble, I would watch the other contestants answer and feel like i'm nothing. Sorry for this, I know I'm not the only one with problems, but I just feel comfortable here on Psych2Go. Stay safe.
