You're not understanding. 30 bananas a day is the way to go. I can eat unlimited calories even though it goes against the laws of thermodynamics. And going raw changed my eye color to purple/striped.

I stopped eating salt when I went vegan. I never ate added salt anyway so when I stopped eating packaged products my sodium was SUPER low and my thyroid had some issues after about 2 years in low salt. I also have hypothyroidism (unrelated to veganism) and low sodium is actually terrible for me as I get lightheaded Lesson learned. Just eat like a normal person w/o animal products and it’s fine haha

Low sodium is different than no sodium. People don't actually need much salt. About 1gram/day is enough. The recommendations on intake are based on the fact that excessive salt is harmful. (In my country the recommendation is 5grams/day which should be maximum of the daily intake.) Also, people should not use these trendy salts that don't have iodine in them because our thyroid needs iodine to function properly.
@Paputsza
@Paputsza 6 жыл бұрын
HannahBrookeJones seaweed has iodine in it, but it's also salty. I'm just trying to give you an excuse to eat seaweed salad if you're into it because I liked it once I got used to the texture. I have hypothyroidism too, but no amount of iodine will help since it's just genetic and I have 0 thyroid function.

I was severely B-12 & vitamin D deficient BEFORE going vegan. Funny how that happened considering I was eating A LOT of meat & dairy and I live in Arizona!! I've supplemented both B-12 & D ever since and have been vegan for 2 years. My point being those deficiencies are something everyone should have checked not just vegans.
@BubbleGumPinkHair1
@BubbleGumPinkHair1 6 жыл бұрын
Definitely. Some deficiencies are diet related, ie, simply not getting enough of it in your system, but some are unrelated to diet and have to do with how your body absorbs the vitamins. I've been severely iron deficient since I was a kid and I've only been vegan a year, my body just can't absorb it and I need to take massive amounts via supplementation just to get enough.
@ala4935
@ala4935 6 жыл бұрын
Lur that's true, and for some people there can be reasons that absorption is low. for example celiac disease. it isn't insanely common but people can be asymptomatic except for deficiencies and it's caused by the gut being too damaged to absorb properly.

As the logical, rational, science-minded, skeptical person that I am, I can't believe I was so heavily influenced by Freelee. I'm so ashamed to admit it now. Why did I feel that she was somehow an authority on nutrition? Why did I allow myself to go broke because I thought the only way to be "at your best" was to eat nothing but raw fruit until 4pm? Was it her passion? Was it her thin physique that she kept saying "proved" the efficacy of her lifestyle? Was it her omnipresence in the plant-based community? Whatever it was, I genuinely thank you, Swayze, for speaking out against her, Durianrider, their zealotry, and gimmicky brand of veganism. I thank you for drawing attention to how powerful and dangerous the spreading of misinformation can actually be. Why didn't I just follow the recommendations of nutritional experts from the beginning?

Or why didn't you follow what is tried and true and works. Eating meat. It's what your ancestors and millions of years of human evolution did. There were no such thing as plants and fruits as we know them more than a hundred years ago. Most plants and fruits today are not wild and were created by humans in recent times. There was no other way humans could have been as they are, without meat.
@ChickenOfAwesome
@ChickenOfAwesome 6 жыл бұрын
clear mist You are wrong in some ways and right in others - yes, a lot of fruit and veg we have today is very different to its wild counterparts. But most did exist wild in some form, we just made them bigger, or made the plant yield more crop, made them have less seed for ease of eating etc. So wild carrots are smaller and different colours, wild bananas and melons had far more seeds, wild rice and wheat varieties give much less grains per plant etc. They were all there, and they were a significant enough proportion of our diet that we devoted a lot of time and effort to farming and perfecting them! You are right that we could not have got where we are without meat - there are thoughts that our large brains were aided in development by our ability to hunt meat, and crack bones for protein rich marrow, although it was by no means our main source of food. But nowadays, while you might need to supplement some things, you no longer have to eat meat to grow and be healthy. And I say this as someone who currently eats meat.

Yeah she does make veganism difficult because she's promoting a healthy version of veganism that emphasizes on balance. Which is something most people don't do, most people don't have healthy diets and most people don't have balanced diets. In ways her approach is easier because it will be easy to continue eating it but it's also harder because you have to make sure it's balanced and achieving balance is quite hard in all aspects of life.

Hi Unnatural Vegan! I'd like to share my experience on this matter. When I decided to go vegan I went to a nutritionist asking if he could show me how an healthy vegan diet should look like. He was very willing to help me and I felt reassured. In particular, I asked him about the daily calcium intake on a vegan diet and he replied that if I follow the meal plan that he gave me I shouldn't have any problem. Nonetheless, if I'm concerned with the calcium-thing he said that I could simply switch to a type of water that is naturally rich in calcium. Here in Italy (I'm Italian) we have lots of different "brands" of water that are naturally richer in calcium, so I thought to share because this could be a nice alternative to supplements if someone find difficult to meet his daily intake of calcium. What do you think about that?

@Jordan-sj7rc
@Jordan-sj7rc 6 жыл бұрын
LarnieRadek I eat alot of greens in the form of salads and green smoothies. Which I love bc you can't really taste it if you don't like greens. But after a while your taste will change and you will like them. I eat several 100 grams of spinach and romaine. Several times a week lentils and beans. Cashew milk has alot of calcium in it. I think like 50% rda. I drink it daily. I eat alot of broccoli ,nuts, peanut butter. Oats I believe have iron. Basically just a varied diet with some treats thrown in. I do use some fortified foods. Tempeh is some thing else I love. And clif bars I can't leave those out. They are fortified. Probably not the healthiest thing but they do have b12 and vitd. Flax and chia are good for omegas. Just throw them in oats or smoothies and you'll be covered on dha
@st.g6329
@st.g6329 6 жыл бұрын
Jordan this is not accurate. Your body can only convert miniscule amounts of ALA into EPA...even less into DHA. If you're caning the peanut butter and sesame seeds to get enough nutrients like calcium and b3 then your omega 6 and omega 3 ratio will be out of balance. You need to really load up on pre- formed DHA otherwise you will be putting yourself at risk for heart problems. Also don't overdo the spinach because the oxalic acid binds to calcium and stops your body absorbing it. The oxalic acid problem is very real despite is what certain plant based docs would have you believe that it's not an issue.

Totally agree on all counts. I do like Mic but completely disagree about the oil thing. I take the Vegan Society supliment VEG1 that has B12 and a few others. I also, because of my age, take calcium. There is this illusion that as vegans our diets MUST perfect. That we should only have wholefood etc. I got ripped to shreds by one vegan who was in his late teens. At uni and no responsibilities because I'll have on occasion things like bought in burgers. I'm a carer for 70 year old disabled mum. She isn't vegetarian. It pains me to do her meals. But there's just me and so I am cooking more than one meal. I don't get a break. So I don't have the 'ideal' vegan diet. I do.buy things to make my life easier. So I do get annoyed with some vegan youtubers who I'm a poor example and make veganism look impossible. I thought that myself because of them. I've been vegan 9.months. Was vegetarian 30 years. I became vegan because I'd learnt too much about the truth not too. Vegan vloggers need to start remembering why they're vegan. It's about the animals. This planet. And our health. Want more vegans?! Then stop turning it into another faddy diet. It's not a diet. It's a choice of life!!

I think many ideas are worth a thought. Like, question your consumption of everything. I don't think food without salt necessarily tastes like cardboard and many people use way too much salt. It can be interesting to leave it out entirely and see how things taste. It's also interesting to leave out certain oils, or try out other foods you usually do not eat, and see how you do. The problem is when it becomes a dogma and fanatics promote this stuff like it's the holy grail for everything.This is what actually takes the fun out of eating and any kind of diet. Challenging your ideas of what is healthy if you don't feel too great and experimenting can be beneficial.

Thank you for mentioning that vegans need some supplementation. For this reason I am vegeterian and sometimes I eat eggs not because I like them, but I don't believe in supplements...and I make sure to buy eggs from chickens that are not grown in industries but in farms and are happy and not stressed. Sometimes I also eat high quality cheese and same thing for the cows I make sure they are not being tortured...can you tell me what's wrong this?

Long time vegan Dr. Klaper, suggests B12, Vitamin D, and possibly a vegan form of DHA since a tiny amount only is made from omega 3 type foods like walnuts, flax, chia, hemp. Though he suggests eating a lot of greens each day and consumption of all the omega 3 rich foods just mentioned.

An algae supplement is something to consider, she has a video on this which explains it very well. There’s lots of one type of fat ALA in plant foods like nuts and seeds, but we also need the fats it’s converted into DHA and EPA. We don’t really know how much of the ALA is converted, and it probably varies a lot.
@st.g6329
@st.g6329 6 жыл бұрын
The human body cannot convert enough EPA or DHA from ALA. This is a FACT. If you insist on vegan the you need to load up on pre formed DHA especially if you eat omega 6 nuts and seeds because your body will use the omega 6 first if you're deficient in DHA and this will put you at risk for heart problems. Get your blooodwork checked on a regular basis to see if you're absorbing the DHA supplement. I learned the hard way and had to return to eating fatty fish

I take a vegan multivitamin called VegVit which is pretty comprehensive, however it only provides 15% of your daily RDA for calcium, so I have to make up the deficit with plant milks, but I haven't settled on a suitable plant milk that satisfies my need to add it to both cereal and coffee. The taste of some plant milks when added to coffee is not so good. There is an oat milk available here in the UK called Oatly Barista that is really nice, but it contains rapeseed oil, so do I really want a plant milk with added oil, I'm not so sure. That said, I cannot deny it is the best tasting plant milk that I've ever tasted

Hey, you're awesome, thank you for spreading actual knowledge and actual facts about plant-based diets. I'm vegetarian since 2008 (going to transition to veganism when possible) and I didn't really know much about supplements and healthy levels, so hearing this I really got inspired to learn more and take care of my health. And about other vegans (like that vegan couple) criticizing you for going against veganism, it's always good to spread knowledge when others aren't. If they are promoting unhealthy and possibly dangerous "facts" to thousands of viewers, that's not ok and you're right to call them out.

pyrobotnik bashing narcissism is not just narcissistic, its also really quite sick. its an extreme projection rather than just a mild form of misunderstanding of "what" actually belongs to "whom". if youre not careful you could end up making yourself really miserable. do you know how much work it takes to re-own particular traits you have demonized and denied in yourself for long periods of time?
@st.g6329
@st.g6329 6 жыл бұрын
pyrobotnik my dogma? What do you mean? I'm just saying it's not wise to bash specific personality traits in others because essentially we all have the same stuff going on to certain degrees and denying it in ourselves and hating it in others is just projection. Which is not an ideal way to live ones life as these things distort how we see things.
@st.g6329
@st.g6329 6 жыл бұрын
pyrobotnik Yeah, being incapable of admitting you are wrong shows a lot of insecurity. Actually it's quite pathological. It's especially dangerous if he is influencing others. Those influenced by him are likey not to be in full possession of the facts and are easily swayed. I watched the full debate with Richard, sveridge and milk jar and came away thinking that all three of them are as fucked up as each other. That was the one and only debate I've watched of theirs because I didn't feel that it was constructive. I don't really know how debates work, but something in my gut told me that was not a real debate. It didn't feel fair or rational at all. A pretense of rationality as there but underneath the inteaction was a game of sorts. Vegan gains is not somebody I would listen to on a regular basis. I would only observe him to see how not to behave. I'm not surprised he as 200k followers, most people are irrational and need a strong cult leader to verify their biases.

Relate to so much of this, including the artificial sweetener one. I like the white stevia/erythritol combinations or xylitol for sweetening some desserts and iced tea (because it reduces carbohydrate calories coming from sugar and I don't have to worry about dental consequences as much). This negativity isn't just from vegans though, and ages ago, I had some obnoxious woman standing in line a shop lecture me about how it's a "lab product" -- for some reason feeling the need to say, "The only -ol I consume is alcohol." COOL STORY! Please, do go on. Also relate to the vitamin D one, because I'm really pale too and was recently told by a doctor (informing that vitamin D tests are now only covered by public healthcare in Australia if you're pregnant or wear a niqab/burqa) to go out more and/or "put my belly in the sun while I read the paper." Hmmmmm

Yes, if you want the oils inside the seeds. Maybe not if you're just after the fiber. You should be careful if you eat a lot dry, as it might clump and ball together possibly even blocking digestion. Best to grind and take with plenty of water or in a smoothie or other liquid or vegan-yogurt food.

I was looking in the internet and supposedly you don't have to grind them, but well I grind them anyway. I soak them and then add to smoothies and grind. You should soak them always because they can block your intestines or even esophagus.

Thanks for posting this video. I’ve had both iron and B12 deficiencies since going vegan with some vegetarian lapses and it’s only been about 10 months. (I am now supplementing regularly and getting my levels done next week). It’s really upsetting to hear people spout off nonsense about supplementation and victim-blaming when someone does get sick from a vegan diet. I feel that it is deeply immoral to kill and eat animal and am not looking for an excuse to go omnivore again. I just wish certain members of the vegan community would be more compassionate for those that do have problems with a vegan diet.

I love you Swayze but protecting against wrinkles from sun damage is hard work, UVA waves (long wave radiation) penetrates through clouds and windows so even if you are inside or it is a super cloudy, rainy day UVA waves are still hitting your skin (especially if you work near a window). I think a lot of the videos are geared to people that are not suffering with any significan health issues, whereas many of the utubers promoting cleaner and purer diets are coming from a background of compromised health and therefore promote very simple whole food eating as a way to allow the body to heal. Please take that into consideration.
