Great subject and I have two important facts. 1) do not take it lightly. Our neighbor didn’t go for 3 days and her doctor told her to take over the counter meds. The next day she felt better so thought it worked. When she saw him for a recheck two days later he rushed her to the hospital and she died two days later. She felt better because her colon had burst so all the pressure stopped. The colon bursting out the stool into her blood stream and she got sepsis and died. We all still miss her greatly. Constipation is no joke. 2) what works easily? I call it flushing as I figured it out for my husband when we travel. Every morning I have him gulp down quickly 12 ounces of warm water. Quickly is a must as it causes a flush through your system and you’ll go within an hour. Since figuring this out I’ve shared it with all of my clients and even my physical therapist and massage therapist and they all swear by it now and so it each morning just to make sure they don’t get constipated. But they all did it because they were constipated and when they mentioned it to me I taught them this trick. Again you must drink 8-12 ounces of warm water quickly. Be safe!! It’s no joke for sure!

Don't forget prune juice Nanny, we are in our mid 70's and my husband has a triple back fracture waiting for surgery. He is on opioids for the pain and now has this problem. We tried everything to no avail until a friend suggested prune juice, he drinks it twice a day and feels so much better. Thanks for the video, you have a way of telling it like it is with a bit of humor. God bless us all for sure.

You are such a great teacher Nanny. Thank you for all the research you do. I learned my best trick back in my 40's when I had a hysterectomy. Of course it was very hard to poop after that major surgery. The nurse advised having a low stool (about 6 inches tall) in the bathroom and to set my feet up on it when I had to go. It unkinks the abdomen and puts you in the best position for rhe poop to come out. Boy, did it work great. I have been doing this ever since for the past 20 years and no spasms. I am glad you are able to discuss so many topics with us, even if Moosie is a little uncomfortable. He trusts you!

Nanny, what an awesome video. I was pleased you spoke about incontinence but your teacher mode came out 100% in this vlog. I appreciate you and all the time you invested to investigate the subject and educate us. You know none of these topics should be tabu! I believe if we are open about these things we can learn from it. I would love to hear how menopause has affected you over the years and what things are a nuisance because of menopause. I know many women rejoice to be rid of their period but it actually made me sad because it was like leaving a part of my life behind that had been a part of me for so long. I’ve also heard a lot of different opinions on what changes over the years but since you research and are responsible I think this too could be a great topic. You do these vlogs so well! God bless us all! Hugs, Elizabeth XX 🤗🙏💕🫶🏻❤️🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Me either it was just a bit of thinning hair (which came back in later) and some hot flashes. I had an eight year old when I went through it which was a non-event for me too. I was 50 and blessed, thank God! But I thought as a topic for those who do suffer from it some education on it would be interesting for many! 😀❤️🌻

You are so correct about this subject. One, if not the most important subject for our health. It comes down to what we eat and all the medications we take. Most prescription medicines cause constipation. It’s very serious and most people don’t connect the correlation. Eating raw fruits first thing in the morning changed my life. Thanks for bringing this up and I hope it helps someone. I could talking about this subject for a long time because it was a major problem when I was young. I came across a book called Fit for life that changed my life. I never knew I was constipated until I read that book and for the past 40 years have been studying it. I even taught classes on it. People do not like to talk about it. At least not back then. I don’t follow that book as strictly now but what I gleaned from it I use every day. Thanks again for talking about this. ❤️

Very well done Nanny! I worked for a gastroenterologist for over 30 years and gained much knowledge. We had so many patients with constipation problems. He also did recommend daily Colace for the seniors ( my 88 year old mom takes every night) , if they truly were backed up the only quick fix “ laxative” he recommended was citrate of magnesium, sometimes Miralax…. And of course most important is to remember to do your colonoscopy when recommended by your doctor.

OMG .. Nanny , I almost feel famous now ? LOL ... all kidding aside, you did a fantastic job and I can't imagine anyone could be offended by any means. This is such an important issue that so many people feel embarrassed about. But you would think for the over the 60's crowd we could talk about anything by now ? My son did the intermittent fasting, dropped a lot of weight and said he felt so much better. So I feel that is a beneficial method for us all at some point in our lives. I miss doing my yoga so much (because there are great movements much like you showed us ) I have to wait to get into it again when the orthopedic doctor says it is alright, after I had fractured my arm everything flew out the window for me .. gardening and yoga. You looked so pretty today ! and it ran seamlessly with your point about no matter how good we look on the outside, if we don't feel good on the inside it is defeating and so uncomfortable. Job VERY well done Nanny ! Thank you !! Joy

Thank you for all of the research you obviously put into this content. I have dealt with constipation issues for too many years. Not much help from MDs, but I believe as I have gotten older, it is partially just a sluggish system. Walking definitely helps as do some of the remedies you suggest here. You did a very good job. My friend has the opposite problem. She usually has to go a few times in the morning and sometimes once at night. My friend’s stools are way too soft, almost but not quite, diarrhea, she states. She worries about it because She (and I) fear that in her 80s, she will not be able to control the elimination and all that comes with that. HORRORS!! She is my traveling buddy.

Great informative episode, so relevant. Having cared for my mother, who lived healthily over 100 years, many even MOST seniors are deficient in magnesium. A minimum of 500mg per day is needed as it is involved in over 300 bodily functions. Nerve stimulation and health is one of them. My mother took 2 250mg supplements each day, and never had constipation. She also began her day with a bowl of oatmeal. Try taking one of those 250mg magnesiums before bed, and the next morning the bowel will be stimulated to "go."

Nanny, you address the important things that we seniors experience every day. I think that you are brave and open minded to do so. I have a wonderful gastroenterologist. I have colitis and pancreatitis. Both cause diarrhea. However sometimes it alternates with constipation. To the point that I bleed. Yes, I occasionally use stool softeners. In fact did you know that you can be constipated while having diarrhea? I was shocked when my doctor showed me the x-rays of stool that was “stuck” in my colon while I was having diarrhea. Drinking water…WELL… that goes back to your video about incontinence. When I drink, then I am running to the bathroom. Consequently I don’t drink until I am thirsty. Not good since by the time you are thirsty, you are starting to become dehydrated. I am on many medications so I am sure that affects my problems as well. All of these things are uncomfortable. So besides all of our aches and pains and perhaps instability, not to mention forgetfulness, we are burdened by what should be natural functions. I have said for years that the “Golden years” are tarnished. (Yes Moose, I do know that gold does not tarnish, it is just an expression that I use). I do love fruit and vegetables, however the prices are outrageous when I order my groceries. I have been paying $1 each for apples for example. I am sure that some of your other viewers can relate. All we can do is educate ourselves and do our best to care for our bodies. Stay well everyone. Blessings to you both, love, Sharon

My fix I have found over the years is 1 tablespoon of Metamucil twice a day 1 500 mg of magnesium twice away and 1 stool softener twice a day. I have to do this everyday not just once in awhile. My hemroids I must wipe really well and wipe with wet wipes and put Vaseline down there.

Absolutely awesome! This has been an eye opener. I've tried so many things, it's unbelievable how many products I have used. I definitely will share this with my daughters. Now I can tell you "PRUNES" are unpredictable! Love to you Nanny. Tell Moose we appreciate you both. I will check out Dr. Chung.

You look absolutely gorgeous this morning. You cracked me up when you said how you were going to describe the words. I totally agree with the words you picked; the others are icky.

I also chew a couple of dried prunes. But traveling adds another layer to this because of time change and sitting on an airplane, different foods and routine!

If people think that talking about constipation is embarassing, I have heard of cases more that once or twice about people being found dead of a heart attack on the toilet because all that pressure of pushing which is very hard on the heart, just saying.
