I think we all agree that Turkish is a beautiful language. But it differs from region to region. Have you ever wondered what people living in the Black Sea Region sound like? or people from Thrace Region? Well, let's figure it out together in this video of me trying to speak in 7 different Turkish dialects! Enjoy! Which of these accents have you heard before? Let us know in the comments below!

I've tried my best to imitate the dialects, however, I'm still far from perfect :((
To prepare for this video, I watched a lot of interviews of people who live in the regions that I want to learn the dialect of. The sentences I say in the video are from those interviews.
I also noticed that in some dialects, I've chosen only aggressive, rude expressions, and sentences. However, it doesn't mean that people living in that city or region are rude or angry. They are all lovely people and you can be sure that you'll be treated better in Anatolian cities 😊

I'm from India and I'm here after watching 6 episodes of Hercai because I noticed a slight change in their accent as compared to the other shows I have watched. For example they say Ağa with a sound of G in it. And usually I've heard turkish people say Ağa with a silent ğ. Also there's a sound of 'kh' when they say 'k.' For example usually I'd hear Çıkıyoruz with a sound of clear K. And in Hercai everyone says it like Çıkhıyoruz, with a sound of 'kh.' And now I'm going crazy because I'm not able to explain myself clearly so I'll just leave it here. 🤣

Merhabalar Can and everyone. I learnt Turkish when I lived in İstanbul in the late 80s/early 90s. Back then I had to learn Turkish as very few people spoke English. By the time I left İstanbul, after 5 years of almost total immersion in the language, I was a confident speaker of the language. Fast forward 30 years and I am back in Turkey again. Now I am in Kahramanmaraş. It is geographically in the Mediterranean region of Turkey, in the south but closer culturally to its south-east Anatolian neighbour Gaziantep. I have no idea what these people here are saying. At first I thought my Turkish was crap after such a long absence but now I know it's their crappy Turkish! Standard Turkish = ne yapıyorsun(uz)? (what are you doing?) Maraşcı = Neyapyon? or worse - Notiin? (Huh???????? Totally incomprehensible for me but I finally worked it out) Thanks for the video - it has given me back my confidence in speaking/understanding Turkish! It is so difficult. Well in bangladesh 🇧🇩 we also have different accents and when you go to places like sylhet or chattogram you can't understand what they tell you even if you both speak bengali..... I loved all the turkish accents. Its the beauty of a language.....❤

my mother is from rize(northeast black sea coast), father from çankırı(central anatolia), and i was born and raised in izmir(west coast, right across greece)! i’ve started to adopt the dialects into my daily speech even though my parents dont speak them, so i feel more connected lol. i occasionally replace my k’s with a g for çankırı, and use an abundance of da’s for rize :D

Lovely! I wish I could make a vid like this about Uzbek regional dialects - Kashkadarya general and my hometown specific dialect, Surhan, Anjan (Andijon), Namangan, ooooo you name it! Even within my own vilayet there are at least 5 distinctive dialects! Mine is Shakhrisabzcha, a standard Uzbek with Persian mild pronounciation and with distinctive Present Continous (yapiyor - qilopti (standard Uzbek would be qilayapti), and To be Going To (gelmek istayorum - kelmoqchiydim in Shahrisabz - kelmoqchi edim in standard Uzbek).

Most People who live in Istanbul are not originally from Istanbul. Their family have come from very different cities of Turkey. So you can't say Turkish is spoken in Istanbul the best way. People whose family live in Istanbul more than a century or educated or from the ottoman Palace speak Turkish accent well. They are called Istanbul beyefendisi ( İstanbul gentlemen or İstanbul lady) istanbul hanımefendisi.

Thank you for this very interesting video! I appreciate your attempts at various Turkish accents though I know they are probably imperfect since it is very difficult to perfectly replicate an accent you don't have. It's really interesting to me how much the Southeastern dialects you did (Urfa and Diyarbakır) sound like Azerbaijani! With the "ə" sound in "sən" and the "x" sound. I wonder how similar they are to dialects of تورمی in northwestern Iran.

In Ask laftan anlamaz the parents were speaking in a certain way and I thought that it is just an archaic version. You know, most of the time the different generations sound different even in the same region. Than they explained that the family are Laz people from the Black sea region. I do not know if the actors were doing it right but it sounded very melodic and with more power and vibe in the sound.

When I speak to cypriots one time and other I get their accents too . Languages are fluid you know :))
