I've spent a lot of time in the 1600, 2002 and 2002 tii, but the turbo was so much more fun. Cruising PCH at 100 MPH was a daily event in these awesome little machines.

That great big turbo is why it has so much lag.

THX to the Host for noting that Turbo Lag is not a “problem”… Turbos are Turbos.. they are not merely a Mimic of a larger normally aspirated engine.

The 70s were the greatest Decade for American Auto makers and also for Rock n Roll in general. I’m so glad I got to live In this time period and Experience it firsthand. Awesome presentation Guys, my personal Favorite is the Vega!

Personally, I think the Cosworth Vega would have stood a chance, if the Vega hadn’t already developed such a poor reputation before it. Rust issues, overheating, and just generally poor quality from the Lordstown assembly plant. All counted against it. And of course, the price was absolutely prohibitive when you could get into a BMW for similar money. But as a North American sports sedan, it was a good effort. Reflective of what Chevrolet could do on a skunk works project.

Hi! I have a humble question! How come the E9 with an aero dynamic body of the 2000c has never picked while the 2002 was considered as the model to keep post 1973 oil embargo era?

Good evening Gentlemen .... Ben .....constructive comment...... if you say "l'm tired of asking " you'll upset some who were thinking of subscribing . If you say " congratulations to our most recent subscribers ! That will intice others to follow. The 2002 Turbo was notorious for it's turbo lag as was the 911/930 ... my favourite ? The Pantera no question !!! But the Mangusta is even more desirable Donald ! Thankyou Gentlemen

Max boost on bmw was only 8psi. That surprised me a bit as I thought it would be much higher. Apparently the driveline couldn’t handle much more HP with a common driver.

Back in the mid nineties as a young man I was looking for a sports car. A Pantera, a 1991 Corvette and a Ferrari 318 we're virtually identical priced! I picked the Corvette, the only one that nose dived in value.😅

As Jay Leno always says, if you buy a car you love, you won’t care if it appreciates or depreciates. Ferraris are pretty safe bets on future value, but you would most likely not have held on to it because first of all, the maintenance would have bankrupted you, and second, it would have depreciated for a long time before it began to appreciate. 20 year old cars are the way to go if you want to buy a car at its lowest point before they start to appreciate.

I was 12 years old in 1970 and I thought that the 70's cars sucked. I began working as a pro auto tech in 1976 and I really hated the cars that I worked on. I hated the 80's cars even more! I did make a lot of money fixing the junk that was being sold. :) I began to like cars that were being produced in the 1990's.

I remember the vega. it was not a lack of market understanding or reception; that is incorrect. its lack of success was premature tech of engine design. the aluminum heads were unreliable, and failed frequently, as they performed differently and needed to be maintained and serviced differently (they warped and cracked often due to overheating). that was it. they were good cars if the engine didn't blow. the entire american engine industry had a brain fart in the 70s with changing requirements. the worst american engines were during the 1970s.

spot-on summary of the DeTomaso and 2002. the bmw plan was not as developed at the time as you think; it developed more by adjusting to market feedback; they capitalized quickly on successes and adjusted intelligently to mistakes. this really helped the industry in ways we see today.
