I can’t recommend Ren enough! Every song is a jewel. Chalk Outlines is so beautiful. Also recommend Tale of Jenny, Screech and Violet. Also: Money Game I-iii. They’re all great. React to all of them, he’s so so so gifted.
@cathrinewitty67499 ай бұрын
Definitely more, I’ve subscribed in anticipation 😬. Videos I recommend are, Chalk outlines. Sick boi. The tale of Jenny and screech - including violets tale. The money game trilogy - make sure money game 2 is the lyric video. Su*cide - it’s a tough watch tho’. How to be me. There are so many, for a lighter side of Ren I suggest The Big Push - I shot the sheriff/road to Zion. The hunger. Murderer. Back on 74’ Nas retake, halftime.
@cathrinewitty67499 ай бұрын
Also wanted to point out if you are unaware many of Ren’s videos are done live and in one take. It’s so impressive and you’ll see exactly how impressive when you do money game 3.

I first heard this song last March, I had been drinking every single day for the past 10 years, blacking out practically every night. My health was failing, throwing up blood every day for months at this point, and this song is the only reason I sought help. A few months later I went to rehab and I'm 9 months sober now. He is insanely talented, poetic, and able to communicate emotion and very real human struggles with impact. He restored my faith in myself, and my love of art and creating and writing. He restored my will and ambition.

He lost a friend early on to suicide. He has another song about that experience that I guarantee will tear you up - in a good way. It is called Suicide. He lays it all out, holds nothing back. It is a beautiful piece of work, compelling, cathartic, unforgettable. Because of that loss, he has held on through a horrendous experience of misdiagnosis of his own illness as being psychological, which he addresses pretty well in Sick Boi. He's been through hell and back, and it shows in his depth, purpose, and beauty. He has been tempered by life. He is an incredible talent.
@CabinFever529 ай бұрын
I think he also addresses that in his song with The Big Push, called Precious. A really sweet video.

Congratulations on 14+ years sober. I can never watch this video for the first time again but it brings me such joy watching new people discover the beauty and outstanding talent that is Ren. I suggest his 1 million subscribers video that will give you a great insight into who Ren is. He is unlike anyone about at the moment, more talent in his little finger than most artists topping that charts these days.
@albamartinez49879 ай бұрын
I'm impressed at how much you picked up on your first watch. Ren has been through a lot in his young life's, from having lost his best friend to an unaliving incident to spending around 10 years (basically all of his 20s) suffering excruciating pain, episodes of psychosis and extreme fatigue but being told it was all in his head only to be diagnosed in his 30s that he in fact had Lyme's Disease all along. He went through some extremely dark phases but his love for music pulled him through. A gifted, but self taught musician (via KZbin by slowing down Jimmy Hendrix for example), Ren is a multi instrumentalist, he composes, produces and writes everything. Makes his own bears to most of his songs (some he samples) and creates his videos himself with the help of some very talented and dedicated friends. As an independent artist most his videos are done on a shoestring budget with most not exceeding £2000. The only exception being Mobey Game 3, a masterpiece which cost around £20,000. Originally starting out as a busker, Ren prides himself in playing live for many of his tracks as well as using 'one takes'. This video as you rightly noticed, was live, but it was also a one take (after only 4 tries). I think you will really appreciate this incredible artist and thoroughly recommend you continue to react to him. Us 'Ren-egades' as we've called ourselves 😅 only ask that as a reactor you please pause if you want to say anything and then rewind a few seconds before starting up again. This is bc unlike other artists, Ren's videos are very richly packed with details that can be easily missed. A prime example is The Tales of Jenny and Screech (and Violet); an incredible trilogy of tales which requires full attention in order to understand the ending. Here is a link to help you fund the right version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioqkn6SHYpJ-jpIsi=GEgP5y4GiyjK0W61 I look forward to your next reaction 😊

Ren is truly in a league of his own. His lyricism is always mind blowing and his creativity is insane. He can do literally anything. His back story is absolutely worth looking up as he suffered for years with misdiagnosis for Lyme Disease. He gives a voice to people who suffer especially those with chronic illness and mental health issues. I hear so much of my story (with chronic illness) in his and its so refreshing to listen to someone who sees people like me because we're usually pretty invisible. I hope you do more Ren. Everything he does is absolute fire. You should check out Chalk Outlines (live) next. Then you can go down the Chinchilla rabbit hole too. 🤪

@arderasempre19 ай бұрын
That line is so very impactful for me. I know that voice, I've heard it before. I think many of us have in one form or another. What I love most about the community that has risen up around Ren, is there is an empathy there, empathy for our fellow human beings, which is sadly lacking in the world we live in. Ren brings that out, in the "RENagade" community. That also gives me hope, and makes me feel less alone.
@jeffconnelly12849 ай бұрын
The noose line is one of the most impressive things I've ever heard. I can't remember the last time I've been so excited about an artist in a way where i believe they have limitless talent, maybe Andre3000 when I was in 6th grade.

I'm an amateur musician, and at times have felt like a pretend in my paying career over the years. I have depression, anxiety and PTSD and lost 2020 to them completely. I'm very fortunate in that I've never experienced suicidal ideation but I think the incredible nature of what Ren did here is he managed to take his personal experiences and make them speak to anyone who has had any kind of internal struggle. Be that self-doubt which I think many or most of us have at one time or other, through to those darker things that go on inside us. This song speaks to me in so many ways it's uncanny. Whether a person likes how he puts things together musically and visually or not, he's a flat out lyrical genius to my mind. (Oh and I love the way he does things... he feels like a precious thing to me actually).

But now it is confident, complex, layered, a little bit dark, and gritty. Less innocent but somehow better. - wise man shares his experience with others. Audience relizes that that kid performing at the beginning of the video was actually a very mature man just pretending to be his younger self to tell a story and that in itself seems even more masterful.

Great reaction! Lost count long ago of the times Ren is so transported while playing the guitar that he totally loses control over his facial muscles. You think THAT was funny guitar face? Just wait!! (You were right about the unaliving aspect. The song was planned to end with the sound of a gunshot just after the 'devil' Ren crescendo, but when he showed it to a close friend, they said, "Ren, all your songs are so depressing. Couldn't this one end a little happier, after which Ren went to the beach and in one go wrote 'hope' Ren's response and the spoken outro. As someone who struggles a lot with mental health, this song hits me hard and I cry every time I hear it. I always interpreted that ending sequence, after he tries to suppress the cynical, negative side of him completely that it just bursts out of him, the pressure coming to a head. After it gets its say and takes over briefly, it leaves room enough for that lighter, more fragile but positive side of him to come through and say its own piece, allowing him to start healing and learning to accept both sides, which seems to come through in the end when he's singing prettily, but sounding frayed and with the lights flickering behind him like they did when that negative side was talking. He learns to, as he says, dance, and it gets easier to move forward, to accept that it's not always going to be nice times, happy times, peaceful. You're gonna have bad days that come with the good, and it's not your fault, it's just how things go sometimes and it's natural. Anyway, loved your reaction

Also Danny, on a more serious note…I’m (very) newly sober (about 2 months clean) for the first time in probably 14 years (I just turned 32), so thank you for this. Seeing you speak so honestly on things regarding mental health is very helpful…because I subscribe to the belief that addiction/substance abuse is more of a symptom of the core problem rather than the actual problem itself. So, idk. You being so open is helpful for me. Thanks again. Also shoutout to David, because…duh. I love that dude.

In America, it's a 12 step program. 1 step is to admit you have a problem. 2nd step is I need a higher power other than myself. But the 10 step is the program you need to follow. So step 1&2 is admittance of the problem.

It might not touch you as much - or maybe it will - because it's a different topic but dominoes for me.. really touched me a lot lyric wise. Very important song for all gender.

As an addict in recovery I can relate to the internal struggle presented here. Ren is pure gold. Each song is so unique. Enjoy wherever you go next on the Ren journey.

He's incredibly diverse. I feel like you'd really enjoy the song Freckled Angels about written about his late friend Joe Hughes shortly after his death. (He's written several for Joe, this was the first.)

Incredible reaction! Subbed for you being the only reactor to talk about his "lost in the moment of music" face

"How to be me" Live with Chinchilla pulled me out of a dark hole. My husband passed in 2019, i was so alone. I listened to that song and i was suddenly not alone anymore. Enjoy your Ren journey. 😊

Welcome to the RENaissance!🎉 There is one major criteria by which I judge a reactor, and you absolutely GOT IT. Great reactors will be visibly touched and will sometimes have to pause at “Some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope.” That line is a game-changer. Ren is a game-changer. Hope you react to more of him. ❤

7:22 I feel that it's a reference to the fact that nobody can do something that hasn't been done before, no story that hasn't been told, if you look at the human race and the lessons, the cycles... BUT no one , can be compared to another, and their lives, their vision and their voice is what makes every story an original.

Great reaction, this kid is a genius! Also saw the bag of disks and now i subscribed, must be a good dude to feel Hi Ren and a disk golfer. Anyone who enjoys those two things is a brother from another mother.

I was interested in what you said about him looking down to reach the high note because in one of his other songs he does with a female artist they sing in harmony but for the highest note she looks up and he puts his head down. It's always puzzled me. Ren is very precious. Thank you for sharing his music ❤

I have a feeling that those of us who survive and come out the other side with hope and a brighter side essentially were successful, we unalived that portion of us that was making us feel that way.

I just subbed Soooo jealous you are about to start this journey I’m not going to suggest anything there are 1000’s of better educated Renegades to point you in the right direction. I’ll just say this I’m 56, my best friends have died, I’ve lost my partner, I’m not broken and part of that has been because of this guy a bit over half my age has kept me inspired this last 12 months

He was bitten by a tick which was not diagnosed for 10 years. The symptoms of tick bites are all consuming as his words tell. His song "Sick Boi" will open your eyes.

"Let me break the fourth wall by acknowledging this song" "The fourth wall is a performance convention in which an invisible, imaginary wall separates actors from the audience. While the audience can see through this "wall", the convention assumes the actors act as if they cannot."
