I have 2 case trimmers... Neither have the 33 caliber insert. I am starting to play with annealing. Neck turning tool arrived Monday, looking forward to trying that out. (I have much more 308 and 243 brass than 6.5 Creedmoor.)

The 22-250 case will form a better 8.6. The dimensions are closer. Some of the 308 are just too thick, even in the body below the shoulder

This is pretty much how I’ve started doing it. Chop, chamfer, size, trim, chamfer again. Did a couple without chopping them first and it was just way more pressure than I want to put on my press. I found some headstamps need to be neck turned, particularly if the case neck thickness is above .013-.0135 at any spot. They just won’t plunk in my barrel. Just about any 308 brass I tried was way too thick. So far Federal brass has been the only one consistently the right neck thickness (that I’ve gotten to try)

With the 6.5 brass.. lube them size them without chopping Trim in a forester trimmer Check neck thickness after cleaning the case mouth if they are over .014 then I ream the necks but I would recommend neck turning, it's faster.

Why size first? I am early to this but so far it seems easier. So far have not had to neck turn.

@@EagleRun23 I size first to eliminate a step. I don't have to first chop, size then trim. I go from sizing to trimming. after that, all I need to do is clean the mouth and make sure the thickness is what it needs to be. 6.5 brass is easier than converting straight from 308. I will chop the 308 brass first because there is more material. This is just what I do right now and I am also still learning. At the moment, I am trying to dial in a good cast Zinc load. I should have that this weekend I hope.

not ready to do this but good to know what's involved, appreciate you chance getting a strike , wonder if you played it in reverse it would fool the algorithm into you dismantling ammo? Whoops meant freedom seeds

have you considered using 260 Rem brass? you can convert them to 6.5 CM so should be able to convert them to 8.6 blk out any thoughts?
@EagleRun23 Жыл бұрын
you could as far as I know. Anything that is that 308 parent case. I have seen guys convert 6creedmoor too. I dont have any 260 to try though

More coming. I want to make sure what I share is completely tested and reliable. I am using lees die set for the initial work. Then finishing with the Hornady set for reloading. Thanks for watching.
