The newest AAA game I own is BFV, and the newest game in general I own is Bannerlord. But a lot of my favorite games are older (Halo 3, Skyrim, Dark Souls trilogy, BF4). I plan on upgrading my pc this year to play new games and hopefully future proof it for the next few years. I’m looking at getting a 4K-60hz monitor to use for games where I care more about graphics than performance and keep the 1080p 200hz for the opposite situation. I like to chop and change all the time which AM4 is excellent for. However if I'm going to stick with a config then I make it decent. There is a difference in feel from a RYZEN 5800X to a RYZEN 5900X. However there is no difference between 32GB and 64GB unless you are running something that specifically wants the RAM like large VMs. Typically a PC runs fine with 16GB RAM even though it would make use of a bit more, say 24GB (which you don't want to do). 32GB it runs perfect and 64GB is only half used.
@sujimayne3 жыл бұрын
More and more games are starting to use over 10GB RAM because they can. OS itself can use over 4GB RAM, then add background proccesses to that and 16GB is already just barely enough. In a few years 16GB will be the 'budget' option and the sweetspot will be 32GB. If you're building a PC today might as well spend a little extra on 32GB of RAM.

I was looking to get an i7 6950x at the time and didn't want to drop 800 for a used chip on ebay, than by dumb luck I scored a core i9 7940x for about 520 for an oem processor. I picked up an evga x299ftw k motherboard for 150, wound up getting a higher core count than what was looking at for cheaper. After stress testing, a delid, and another round of stress tests for about a week. I can totally understand tech deals points about user experience, with lots of ram and lots of cores. It is such a difference for my old build, it feels smoother and much more responsive. For my next upgrade in about 4-5 years, I'll probably grab another hedt part assuming those are still aaround. In my use case I can use them all up and my performance diminishes. I don't want AMD GPU just yet because I want the Nvidia features. Upgrading from 32 to 64 isn't much but I'm sure that it will be enough for a few years and give the pc some room to breathe.

Even on 780TI switching from 4790k overclocked and water cooled to 3900x was a huge difference in gaming performance considering that 4790k was getting utilized max 40% and 3900x got only to 10% load. Framerate was the same, but much smoother, 70 fps felt like 140 on 4790k. And when I changed videocard to 1080ti, every mhz of overclocking gpu made a difference, since platform computational power had so much free resources left, video card was the bottleneck even on 720p.

@@minhnguyennhat9556 when you are overclocking 1080 card with 4 core CPU you don't see much difference in GPU overclock. I got 20% fps boost from upgrading 4790K to 3900x with 32GB ram in both configurations, but different speed 2133 CL9 vs 3600 CL15. My video card could be more stable at higher overclock, and frame increase was also bigger from it.

RX5500XT is a mf beast of a card dude, I have one too and it replaced a 1660ti. On lower CPU machines, Nvid puts too much strain on 4 cores, he should say if you want to use a modern Nvid card you DO need 8 cores and 32GB RAM lol however... With an AMD card it handles almost ALL the compute on board plus the scheduler in hardware too, meaning older machines still whack out decent FPS on AMD.

@@minhnguyennhat9556 All AMD cards support hardware scheduling, some Nvid cards have in the past but none of the current lot do it. I can try to explain but I am crap at this so fact check me for sure! The software you run shedules tasks in different ways to give you your game - and when you have a GPU you have access to hardware scheduling, which takes the strain off of the CPU when it does that. So where you have a GPU capable of hardware scheduling (current AMD but unfortunately not current Nvid), this means the scheduling is done there instead of relying on less powerful slower software scheduling. I think Hardware Unboxed did a great video on this you might have a look there :) They demonstrated that if you have less than 6 cores then you will basically need AMD for your graphics unless you want to deal with software schedule bottlenecking issues. See AMD cards have dedicated hardware for that whereas Nvidia don't...

I am on a Ryzen 5 2600, A320 Chipset, RTX 2080 and x4 sticks of 8GB RAM and I can play Cyberpunk 2077 on 1080p, RT high w/ DLSS off, and 58-69 FPS depending on the scene. It's playable and I don't complain since I don't dip down to the 30-40FPS range where the slowness is noticeable. As for other games, I just set the graphics on Max or the Highest settings and just enjoy the game. I would've bought a 3700X but I opted instead to a Gigabyte B450 Pro Wifi motherboard so I can overclock the 2600 to push it further in case I needed the extra juice but for the most part, until supplies and prices go back I can't upgrade just yet.

I honestly would prefer having a 5600x to pair with a 2070 super in 1080p. You can definitely push higher framerates than a 3700x and probably overclock your cpu a bit (or at least stabilize a decent all core 4.6). I definitely agree on the 8 core thing if your target is getting a 2080 or more/3060 ti or more, yet i would never pair a zen 2 with such a card for the same reason as before.

I think we get caught up on the higher fps/settings...the better. Years ago the "in" thing was the hunt for 30 fps on max settings. Most of the older games played great at 30...as they were written for it. Now...given the better hardware...the expectation of performance vs visuals has increased. But let's look at it this way. A 4 core 8 thread cpu will play it...as a 4 core 8 thread cpu can.

My question is, will I see a major improvement in terms of stability upgrading to a 3200/3600 mhz CL16 RAM kit. In my country I see a lot of good deals and I feel like I can upgrade, but if there's not gonna be something substancial I'll maybe stick to my 2400mhz sticks for a few more months. No problemo. There literally isn't a single game, I've thrown on that machine that it couldn't run with a smooth experience. With my Ryzen 5900X and same hardware I ofc get better performance, with a higher fidelity, but the experience is still no game changer or majorly different. I put a 3080 in the same machine and the experience was still not a game changer, sure better performance and smoother experience. Sure, you don't "NEED" 8/16 & 32 to play the games, but when you have 1 game open with lots of apps in the background, mods, etc... You will certainly feel the difference. Also, please bear in mind that even if you don't need that kind of processor, it is better to have one because a big game (even if it runs) will put a lot of pressure on 4C/8T (looking at you assassin's creed) And the "need" is also very very subjective because I cannot stand playing at 60 hz. I want more (90 minimum for very nice gp, 144hz being ideal). And lastly, the more fps you have, the less INPUT LAG you will suffer. So, big processors (high clocks) will help tremendously in that regard, because games like CSGO & Overwatch (others too) are CPU dependent to output a lot of frames. So, to conclude, the general public doesn't "need" a big processor. But enthusiast do and they know why. (For info, uncapped FPS will reduce input lag regardless of your screen. Which means, 60 hz screens will benefit from less input lag, but won't obviously see the smoothness improvement). -- However, about the RAM. It is true, you don't need 32 GB of RAM at this time, 16 is perfectly fine (which I have). Unless you do big projects or big streams with a lot of addons. For RAM, 8 GB is the absolute minimum, 16 is the sweet spot for gamers and some video rendering (among others), 32 is needed for streams (especially if you stream big games), 64 is for huge after effects projects and 128 and beyond is either for servers (that do a lot of rendering for example) or mainframes (lol).

16gb would be the minimum you should be playing games on these days, unless it's older games or lighter ones. The CPU, you could get away with a 6 core 12 thread on pretty much anything and get 60fps, maybe some stutters in the heavier ones. You should always try and get an SSD for the boot drive, and the GPU is dependent on the games you play and what you can get, for modern games anything less than a 1080 will struggle
