I use a Lunette cup and also a thin pad as backup on heavy days, just to catch the occasional drop that might come down. The cup is so much more comfortable than tampons once you get used to inserting it. And it lasts so long!

This year i used for the first time a tampon. And i’m 22. I always was a pad type of girl. Also during quarantine I discovered the menstrual cup. It is so fascinating and scary at the first time. Now I’ve ordered it online, can’t wait to try it. Reusable pads don’t seem a good choice for me, the cup seems easier.

I’ve been using the cup for 6 years now and I still love it to this day! I started with the Diva Cup and struggled with it for over a year. I was was thoroughly disappointed as no matter what I did it would always leak. BUT then I tried the Blossom Cup and have been using it ever since without a single problem. My advice is if you’re struggling to use a cup, try a totally different style and size

Changing to a menstrual cup was the best decision I’ve ever made!!!! I think the “pulling out the dry tampon” is the thing that pushed me to switch. I can’t think of a worse feeling 😂 I have a question! I’m thinking super far ahead here but I think about when and if I have a daughter in the future would you recommend using a menstrual cup as the first thing when she starts her period or it would freak her out & deter her from ever using them ever again?
@FemmeHead6 жыл бұрын
If I have a daughter I'll probably get her one for her like 'period kit' but I'll definitely be getting her some period underwear to start with. Trying to remember back just getting your period is a bit overwhelming at first but after the first few you're ready to try different products.
@seltzermint56 жыл бұрын
Gonna be honest, I've tried 3 different cups and do not like them. I have given it many tries for some of the same reasons you name in this video (primarily environmental). I am a lot older, so I've been using tampons for about 25 years now (used them since very young when I first started menstruating). I find it hard to imagine ever totally switching to something else. I will say I *could* use the current reusable silicone cups if I needed to for some reason, and would not say the same for the disposable "Instead" cups from 15 years ago, yuck, those hurt! My biggest complaint with cups is they either seem to feel a bit uncomfortable when my flow is light or can shift when my flow is heavy, eh, just not for me I guess. Glad they were invented & continue to evolve though!
@FemmeHead6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience! One thing that surprised me with cups is that there is a noticeable difference between the different brands. Before I would have just told you that they were basically all the same. But just like how some swear by their reusable pads, and I didn't like them, I would say that it's great to have multiple options when it comes to period products because what works for you might not work for every other person out there.
@seltzermint56 жыл бұрын
Thanks Victoria! it's interesting that you mentioned reusable pads because I do use (and love) mine. Totally true, it's nice to have a wide variety of options so we can all find what works out best for us!

I have used a Lunette cup for ten years. Or I started ten years ago, I’ve had three kids in the ten years. I would never go back. After childbirths I have had to use pads and twice in the ten years I have had to use a tampon when I didn’t have my cup with me at work and I hate using anything but my cup.

I use cotton thinx and a ruby cup medium, I have a light lunette, which is great for the beginning or mid-end of my period, as I have a flow that seems to change quickly. I also have a high set cervix and when you raved about the ruby and lunette, I knew they would be worth trying.

I was using a menstrual cup for years for cost and sustainability, but I became more and more irritated with having something inside me, and it seemed like it was causing cramps (maybe user error, idk, but I also got that from tampons). I switched to period underwear (specifically Femtis) and so far they are wonderful and not at all diaper-y like I anticipated. It's really nice to not have to deal with a full cup first thing in the morning.

Not tampon related but period related, but, have you thought about trying the new Knix period underwear, they advertise that they hold 2 tampons of blood. I know in a video you made a little while ago you said you wished that Knix made underwear for periods themselves, so I didn't know if you were thinking about trying them.

I just visited their site and I found out why most companies still use skinnier models and photoshop to hide skin imperfections - so it doesn't distract from the product. Damn, I couldn't even get a feel how this would look on me, how it looks unstretched. Sorry but the plus-size models are just the worst.

What would be your suggested one for someone who cannot just buy one and get it quickly (I am in Africa). I really want to go green.

Where in Africa are you? I'm in South Africa and they are widely available here. Would it not be possible to order one online from here? (Both Takealot and Faithful to nature stock them) Try online, you'll be amazed what you can get. If we happen to be in the same country, try Wellness Warehouse. I got a Micup for around R250 and it works just fine. I've calculated that it will pay for itself in under 6 months.

What would you recomend for a girl who just got her period?
@magspies6 жыл бұрын
NaitsyMarie1 there are lots of videos on TY (Precious Stars has good ones) about measuring yourself for a cup to find the right size - as one size does NOT fit all. If that's off putting to her, then maybe she's not ready for a cup/or that's not for her...so there are lots of fantastic 'beginner cloth pad' videos, even how to use them when in school that she can watch. It can be super fun picking out pretty pads. There is not 'studies' showing an increased risk of TSS with cups - there is one. And that was lab only conditions. And that was shown to be due to neglectful cleaning. If someone is particularly concerned about that and wants to use a cup, then get two and rotate, fully sanitising each one after use during their period.

I am struggling in making the switch from tampons to a menstrual cup because the menstrual cup I am using (Lunette size 1, which is smaller) and every time I wear the Lunette I can’t use the bathroom to pee. TMI! Do you or anyone have any suggestions on why this is happening? I’ve tried flipping the menstrual cup inside out, and moving it in different directions, lowering it, etc. when I lowered it until I could pee freely, it definitely felt like it was going to slide out. Any suggestions would be appreciated because I don’t want to wear tampons or pads ever again!

putacupinit.com/do-menstrual-cups-cause-tss/
@blankspace70136 жыл бұрын
@@nicolemarie86 the article you linked is very vague and misleading, here's a summary of the study sciblogs.co.nz/infectious-thoughts/2018/04/25/menstrual-cups-tampons-toxic-shock/ Yes in vitro studies aren't the best, and a lot more studies need to be done to make a conclusive judgement, but there is a correlation between reusable menstrual cups and TSS. They aren't inherently "safer" than tampons and might be worse. Anyway I'm not against them, I've even been thinking of switching to menstrual cups but I think people should be aware of the potential risks and not be misled into thinking that they are 100%safe and just better than tampons all around

First period I had I used tampons because we were on a boat (summer vacation, lots of swimming) for the whole time. After that, I used pads or tampons, didn't really matter to me that much but I hated how often you had to change tampons. Now I use a menstrual cup. I have a silicone one and now switching to thermoplastic because it's supposed to be safer in regards to TSS.
