@alaiamay50204 жыл бұрын
Reminded me of the story when I was abroad and there was a guy who was from a serious Muslim background (let's call him A.). There were many people in our year, one of the guys was gay (G.), everybody knew that. So A. would always try not to communicate with him much, he didn't really like the fact that he was gay. But when a bunch of guys went on a trip together (including both of them), G. was the nicest to A. just casually asking if he's alright or comfortable. When they came back he didn't forget about it him and would talk to him, being nice and all. That really changed A. He was so ashamed to think about G. He realised that he's just as human as anybody else. And he considers him his friend since then. Sometimes what we think isn't really accurate. He was homophobic not by choice, it was ingrained in him and since he never really met gay people before he couldn't even explain why. I like that story and that wonderful change of perspective.

recently realized i'm just a straight up lesbian lmao, when i came out as "bi" to my mom last year she was like, "don't tell dad or grandma"! Now that I know I am a fully lesbicious woman I do be panicking. Also I'm unpacking all these weird stereotypes I had, like it's "less feminine to be a lesbian" (I'm a very femme b lmao) how is that less femme? it's literally two females- who put this in my brain??? Anyway thanks for telling me I can come out when I'm ready... bc... i am not!

@brownstudios53794 жыл бұрын
same. I came out to my friends as bi with the rationale that hmm i don't like men but i do like women, boom I'm bi. i know, wth kind of thinking is that, i know it makes no sense. in my mind it didn't even think that being gay was something that was possible for me as in it never crossed my mind that i could be a lesbian because I'm attracted to women and not men. idk if any of that makes sense lol. in high school i sneakily mentioned to my religious god parents that I'd be cool with marrying a woman and that was way before i came to terms with my sexuality but they brushed it off and i let them. even as at 19 and on my own in uni, I'm still not ready but I'm okay with that for now.
@whyisgamora41914 жыл бұрын
@@brownstudios5379 That's so relatable. When I was first questioning my sexuality I also jumped right to the conclusion that I was bi, as if gay was not even an option. Deep down I think I knew all along, but saying that I was bi meant that I was at least half ''normal'', that's how I subconsiously thought about that I think.
@brownstudios53794 жыл бұрын
@@whyisgamora4191 wow, "Deep down I think I knew all along, but saying that I was bi meant that I was at least half ''normal''" thats exactly what i thought too, but sitting in that idea it took me a while to just be okay that I wasn't into guys because that meant that there will be no meeting the expectations of my family that I have left even if i like girls. my brother was cool with it and he said he figured something like that might have been the case, but the idea of being able to saying was bi was "safe" and I hate that I felt that way. I know my truth now but coming out to the rest of my family is gonna hit hard but if i don't, I'll end up hurting myself by hiding.

Damon, have you ever heard of the androgynous myth? It's a story about love and sexuality found in Plato's Banquet. The myth, written by Aristophanes, tells that originally there were three kinds of humans: male, female and androgynous. Each gender is double. The female is composed of two women, the male of two men, the androgynous of a woman and a man. Only, these beings are very powerful and threaten the Gods. So Zeus decides to separate them. From that day on, men, once they were simple again, sought out their halves. This myth shows that the Greeks already considered sexual desire to be either heterosexual or homosexual. There, I thought it was a perfect match for the theme of the video! Voila ....

Great points Damon. My boyfriend and I have heated debates about what it means to be gay. I see it as a way to not be "normal" and try new things that wouldn't be traditionally for guys, but my bf wants being gay to be like what you said, a favorite color or drink preference. I want to be free of most, if not all, of society's masculine expectations and my bf sees those expectations as an inevitability, so might as well play by the rules of the game.
