In Norway, we have «døgn» and «døgne» which have the exact same meanings as “dygn” and “dygna”. You should have included “gråtrunkan” in this list tbh.

Wow! This is very interesting! I will try to translate some words into Thai. Hinna = ทันเวลา (be on time) Blunda = หลับตา (Eyes close) Gubbe = ชายชรา (Old man) Gumma = หญิงชรา (Old Woman) Mormor = ยาย (Grandmother on mom side) Farfar = ปู่ (Grandfather on dad side) Morfar = ตา (Grandfather on mom side. It can be translated "eyes" too.) Dygn = ทั้งวัน (Whole day and night)

Funny that we have some of same words in Finnish even we are totally different language group: hinna = ehtiä gubbe = ukko gumma = akka linslus = linssilude (probably adopted from Swedish because it is a direct translation) dygn = vuorokausi. That is literally turn season or better translate to Swedish: svängsäsong.

Well, Finland was part of Sweden for over 600 years so there's been quite a bit of influence from Swedish in Finnish. About 5000 words in Finnish are loanwords from older forms of Swedish, as well as many sayings etc. Some of the loanwords aren't even used in modern Swedish, for example the word for "neighbour" in Finnish (naapuri) comes from the Swedish "nabor", but as you probably know, Swedes commonly use "granne" these days instead. Swedish has also loaned some things from Finnish, for example the word "pojke" comes from the Finnish word "poika". And even though Finnish is from a different language group, Finns have been living right next to Northern Germanic peoples for such a long time that the language already had germanic influences centuries before Swedish rule.

In Spanish, when talking about grandparents, you can refer to them as "abuela" or "abuelo", your grandmother or grandfather respectively. If you want to specify if he/she is from your mom's/dad's side, you can add "...de parte de mi madre" or "... de parte de mi padre". You can also say "materno", "materna", "paterno" or "paterna" depending on whether you are talking about your grandma (-a suffix) or grandpa (-o suffix), but I guess that would be more complicated for a non-native speaker, as you have to conjugate the adjective and... In German there is a translation for all of this or at least you can make up a translation by creating new words: Hinne=(es) schaffen (zeitlich) Blunda= Blinzeln Gubbe= Greis Gumme= Greisin Badkruka=(ein) Badescheuer(I had to creat the word though but everyone would understand it) Solkatt=Lichtschein Linslus=Linsenlaus(It is rarely used) Dygn= Tag(In German we usually mean the whole 24 hours of a day when we talk about days) Dygna= (die Nacht) durchmachen The grandparent thing is literally translatable but it is considered as rather old so we don’t use it: Farfar=Vatersvater Farmor=Vatersmutter Mormor=Muttersmutter Morfar=Muttersvater But German is a complex germanic language so it is no wonder why we have a translation for almost everything that you can say in Swedish.

We have 'diurnal (cycle)' in English, also 'maternal/paternal grandparents'. But these are educated words and not everyone would use them. We also have 'bath dodger' as slang, but this means someone who is smelly and won't wash! Love these videos.

Funny enough we have our version of these in Danish as well ^.^ Also Krukke in Danish can mean someone who is uptight about something, then they are krukken or she is such a krukke... so that might relate to the bathing pot 😂

Polish Swedish hinna - zdążyć (Zdążę na pociąg!) gubbe - staruszek ("stary" as for "guy", very common among people) gumma - staruszka ("stara" as for "guy", very common among people) solkatt - reflektor (more in dialects than in common use, depends on where you ask people) linslus - gwiazdeczka (female) or gwiazdorek (male) (also not that common) dygn - doba (there's no direct translation for dygna - it's used a lot if it comes to booking hotels and rooms, they always call the one day "doba hotelowa" which is literally "hotel (reservation) day"

It's interesting that the Russian for 'solkatt' is actually 'солнечный зайчик', which translates into "a sunny hare" (you can also say it in plural - sunny hares, if there ara many sunlight reflections on a wall).

Kruka is a slangy word for coward, so so that is where badkruka originates. Personally I wonder if the word kruka in the meaning of coward is because pottery and ceramics are usually somewhat delicate and fragile. Gubbe comes from a word that means little lump, possibly from a Old Norse word meaning something bent. Old men frequently become stooped (bent forward), so that is the origin of that word having the meaning of old man. And of course a strawberry is simply a lumpy little berry that grows in the soil (jordgubbe).

In Russian we have something like "solkatt" too: "солнечный зайчик" ("sun hare") but you may say just "зайчик" ("hare") and everybody will understand that you're not talking about little hare but you mean something like "solkatt". (And in Belarussian it is quite the same: "сонечны зайчык".) We also have something like "dygn" - "сутки".

Visch S the word you are looking for is “hen” (I can understand why you think it would be spelled that way :D) the word is pretty new to the Swedish language and I know a lot of people who don’t like it. (I believe it was added as a new word a few years back)

Glael "Hinna" med tåget = (to be on time) to catch the train. Jag "hinner" inte städa rummet = I won't have time to clean my room. Depending on the context and how you bend the word it can be used to mean being on time, having time for something, not having time for something and so on. It can be used to describe several different things (all temporal) wich is why it's hard to find a single word in another language that can be used in the same way as in swedish. Virtualy every language has words that can not be directly translated into a single other word in another language.
