We just drove an 815 mile round trip from our home in coastal Georgia to Leeds, Alabama and back. I evacuated my 89 year old mother just in case tropical storm Debby caused power disruptions and flooding. I have a 2024 Tesla Model Y RWD that was a Standard Range, but now identifies itself as a Long Range thanks to the Energy Boost upgrade. So 305 miles of rated range according to the car. I didn't capture meaningful trip stats on the outbound drive, but on the return trip, we averaged 231 Wh/mile (4.33 miles/kWh) for 406 miles. On the drive home we charged twice only because I wanted to stop at a V4 site in Alexander City, AL shortly after leaving Leeds, AL. Stopped again in Albany, GA to top up to 85% to easily make it home with a comfortable SOC (27%). This was my first long trip in the Model Y. It was effortless to do it and our charge stops were pretty brief. The charging curve on the Energy Boosted MY appear to be the same as a non-4680 Long Range MY. I saw 252 kW peak charging several times. A few days after getting home, I charged from 18% to 80% in 27 minutes and noted that 18% to 68% (68% being the original locked battery's 80%) took 18 minutes. Very pleased with the Model Y, especially with the additional range/unlocked capacity. Used FSD a good deal of the time and enjoyed that for the most part. Thanks again for all the information you produce, Branden. It was very helpful when deciding on the MY and even more so as I learn all the tips and tricks regarding road tripping. Take care.

Cool road trip video. I like road trips. So easy in a Tesla. I miss that bout our Mod3LR. Thx 4 the video. I enjoyed watching

As a fellow 4680 Model Y owner myself, I feel like EV manufacturers should have to disclose the charging curve for their cars. Stats like peak charging rates are useless.

The charging curve on gen 1 4680 is so bad that Tesla should offer a low cost upgrade to gen 2.

Great video.. Love the long road trip posts... Great drive and nice visit to the beach. My longest continuous road trip was 1100 miles NON STOP in about 17 hrs or so in my old Prius. Just gas and a quick stop and back to the road I have ZERO desire to do that type of road tripping now.. The longer breaks at stops is better for me.. And driving a Bolt EV.. they are definitely LONG stops. But I have a sleep setup in the back.. so I just lay down and take a nap for 45 min while it charges up at that blistering fast 50Kw. I use the car 99% around town.. charging at home.. so it really does not matter. I have put 44,000 miles on it in 9 months. Glad to see a road trip video again....

Pretty wild to see you going all around my stomping grounds, glad y’all got lucky with the weather and had a good time! Super interesting to see how your 4680 Y charges!

Nice! I drove 1050 miles worth of road trips in my i4 eDrive40 over the course of one week, averaging 222 Wh/mile.

KZbin isn’t doing you any favors. They haven’t shown me your stuff for weeks. I’m surprised you haven’t gotten to 50k subs yet. Of course, you might not care, but your content should support that!

I understand you skipping the Mebane supercharger here, but I’d highly recommend it next time you’re driving through. Reliable chargers right off the highway at Sheetz with Wendy’s and Chikfila steps away. The new Lexington supercharger is well placed with great amenities. Great find. I’ll definitely be using that next time on the way out of Charlotte.

Virginia Beach is super commercialized. Next time you’re in the area, check Sandbridge beach, just south of there.

Did the owner of that adapter have his phone number or address on the adapter so you could return it to him? Maybe he/she is watching and saying, “hey, that’s my adapter!” My phone number is on all adapters just in case I leave it somewhere. An honest EV driver should return it and recipient pay for shipping.

Good idea to label the adapter. I'm going to do that!

Crazy how much speed destroys efficiency. You were averaging about 73 mph for the first 135 miles and had a 305 wh/mi consumption. I was getting 212 wh/mi in my 2024 Model 3 Performance but I had a 68 mph average speed. I also have extremely efficient tires on it so that helps a lot but the difference between 305 and 212 wh/mi is tremendous. If you could make that car much more efficient it might compensate for the less than ideal charging.

Model 3 is just a lot more efficient at speed
@LearningFast3 ай бұрын
@@brandenflasch it is definitely a lot more efficient especially at speed. However, there are things that can be done to improve the efficiency of the Model Y and at least help it get a little better range. At 300+ wh/mi you are really plowing through that battery quickly. What is the total capacity of your 4680 battery? What is the usable capacity as well?
@brandenflasch3 ай бұрын
@LearningFast ~65kWh

It is all about driving patterns / style. We have the exact model as Branden (2023 MY AWD 4680 batteries) and our 'lifetime' efficiency (11K miles) is 234 Wh/mi. Our highway use (particularly above 65 mph) is limited.

I’m more cautious on EV range when I was driving my sons 2015 volt since it has 38 mile ev range. But not so with our Teslas
