When I was younger, I invariably put three grunts on a two grunt torque spec. Bolt extractors became my specialty. I was watching you grunt the screwdriver with the wrench and thought, uh huh, he's gonna pull one of my tricks. lol Thanks for the videos Mr. RoadKing. Enjoying the process without getting dirty. ;-) Have a great one, sir!

A couple years ago I went and spent.. probably more than I should have on a "lot" of brigs valve work tools that were being sold off from an estate. I bought them mostly because of a friend needing valve work on a mower, and I figured then I also had several motors needing full rebuilds. Used them on his motor, stashed them away figuring I would be using them that winter to rebuild mine.. Well plans changed, and I wound up repowering the mowers replacing a 11hp with a new 19.5 and also a new 8hp in place of a 6.5. So now I have more tools that may rarely if ever see use again :-/. Oh well. Never know, they are getting to be more of a rare tool(s) to find/own So there is the bragging rights.. and the "just in case" factor :-)

The gasket is actually a heat dam between the carb and the block yes it does help air flow.. Also you did the valves right By putting the keepers in with the grease.

I have the same tractor and I've pulled the engine apart a bunch of times and I just put a new hard to find exhaust on it and smiled because I remember the two grunt torque on it, these are the best engines model 252707 and the extra duty 253707, only difference is the cast iron sleeve in the block.

Very nice, detailed, and entertaining. I was wondering... My 12hp B&S has been so challenging. 1989 Simplicity Lawn Tractor with Hydro trans. It ran last fall, seemingly fine. This spring it started right up, and then began to spit and sputter. I did the usual things, cleaned the carb, 3 times, and then the plug, coil, and such. I then put a new carb on too. Then like the amateur I am, I checked the compression. 60 psi. which in my searching I could not get a true number, other than 60 to 120 was some liberal range. But it just coughs and spits, with fuel being spit back into the carb itself. So is the bottom needed psi 60? or 40-50? I am tearing it down hoping that the valve job you've demoed with tightens mine up. The cylinder wall is like yours, and it's a cast-iron sleeve. Thank You!

Perfect match-up on that linkage, and I really like the "bike spoke" suggestion someone made in the comments. I'm gonna file that away for furture use. Has the machine been running well again (now starting up after getting warmed up)? I thought I fixed my 3.5 Briggs' problem with an intake valve adjustment, but it's still giving me the business, so I'll have to go after the carburetor's automatic choke system next. Thanks, Roadking.

hey roadking ,, just a quick FYI that spring can be removed without snapping the rod ,, it will slide right over the Zbend on the end of the rod ,, ,, that's called an Unloader spring it's only purpose is to take slack out of the throttle linkage
@805ROADKING
@805ROADKING 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's how I took it off, I never broke the rod!! I was surprised how easy it came off!!☺
@wildcoyote34
@wildcoyote34 7 жыл бұрын
I've taken off and installed many of them over the years, they are easy to remove a loose throttle linkage caused by this spring missing will cause the engine to run very erratic over time and get worse over governing and over revving erratically as engine loads change

Instead of drawing around the linkage, try give it a light dust with spray paint when it is laying on the white paper. It leaves a perfect image. Also works when making gaskets and other flat objects. -Tomas.

Tom, I would think since welding rods absorb moisture, and they need to be put in a oven prior to welding, I think that it would hold moisture and make the rod rust prematurely. But it took 32 years to get that thin, so you will long gone till it would rust through again so who cares, LOL
