Well it’s true that the only people generally who simp for billionaires are contrarians. Libertarians would say all modern billionaires are made through government subsidies and are therefore illegitimate Socialists would say they’re stealing from their workers because they have more leverage Even most of the founding fathers warned against wealth growth to the point freedom was no long preserved. Unless you want to make the argument Jeff Bezos is a million times better at business than the next best businesses man. You could make that argument. Bezos himself would disagree, he himself said it was by far mostly just “right place right time” that’s why he calls it “his winnings”. So redheads point is pretty sound. Billionaires existing at all is a glitch in the system. We can argue about how they come about and what should be done about them.. but really only the simpiest of simps say they’re a good thing. And of course contrarians.

My mom thinks unemployment rates are a good thing, because she thinks unemployment is generated by productivity of workers/automation becoming so effective that all of society's needs are fulfilled without those unemployed people needing to work, because if society had an unfulfilled need, jobs would open up, and the unemployed would get hired to fill them, therefore 10% unemployment is 10% progress towards the fully automated slacker's paradise where only workaholics have to work(and even then, it will only be like, once a month when something brakes) My mom is a weird woman, I know.

@@RipOffProductionsLLC A fully automated society would never happen because it would lead to deflation. If it would cost nothing to produce X amounts of goods companies would have to sell many many many times that amount just to break even. However since not all goods have the same relation to demand once consumed it would saturate the market and plumment the price of goods. This actually happens when you hear farmers having to destroy crops because the produce is worth less on the market, than the per unit cost of production. Just because you overproduce something doesn't automatically mean the economy booms.

@@crispyandspicy6813I feel like this is the problem... We seem to forget that the economy isn't an actual rule of the world, it's a game we made up. Yep, Dev even brought up an example of unloading trucks. Just compare the manual jacks to the electronic ones. This is speaking from experience.

@crispyandspicy6813 well, if a society hit 100% automation, people aren't buying or selling things anymore because they don't have jobs and thus don't have payment. Either everyone gets everything automatically, or they have ration/credit allotments for luxuries, or something like that.

You nailed it at the beginning. Labor doesn't not equal value. I can dig a hole, and fill it back, and dig it again to fill it back, etc. I can do that 16h a day. I am working REALLY hard according to all metrics. But it doesn't create any value for anyone. Otherwise, gym bros could demand to be paid for their labor right? (lol that's really funny to think about) So already, if your premise include the fact that labor=value, you are wrong from the start. Edit: I'm waiting for the follow up from Nintendo lawsuit if that video goes viral

It also just falls flat when there are simply people who are better at performing tasks than others, whether that is due to prior training/experience, or natural talent. At my work I could work half as hard as I do and still be better than some of the guys who bust their ass off. Some people can just dig and refill holes in your example faster than others. The value of labor is quite subjective, which is something these people genuinely don't get.

Productivity has increased greatly since 1979 because most businesses use point of sale transaction software, which means accounting no longer has to be done entry by entry. You're missing something about the productivity discussion still. As businesses invest more capital, workers have access to more technology to make them work better. The increase in productivity is just like the example you gave of someone digging with a shovel versus a backhoe. More businesses are able to invest in more backhoes, resulting in higher productivity. The workers themselves aren't increasing productivity by their own merit alone.
