Question: She discounted the water when premixing with water, bur do you do the same with the oils when premixing with oil? Does it always just go toward your superfat??

So if I mix mica color a be4 hand, I need to deduct the amount of oil from the recipe?

Hi Tina I like to use Micas in my soap not a ton just enough to make a difference. I was told to use a Tablespoon of light oil like olive or sweet almond to premix micas so they are ready to add to soap like you do the clays. Is this correct information or should I take away the oils from my soaping batch to mix micas. The place I got the info was a soaping book. It never said really either way it sounded to me the way it was worded you just add the extra oil not a problem but wont 3-4 tablespoons affect your recipe? Should I use oils from my recipe to mix or wont it matter. 2nd question When I add clays to my soap for skin benefit reasons or activated charcoal should I premix it like your doing cause in all the videos I watch they just add it with the oils dry along with milk powders and whatever else they add with it. do you prefer adding liquid milks frozen melted in lye water this is something else I see done alot or do you prefer powdered milks and is regular powdered milk that we drink vit A&D whole milk powder is that even beneficial to add to soap or should it just be like goats milk or buttermilk Ive seen used. if vit A&D milk is beneficial the powdered form do you premix that with water and discount it out? Its confusing watching hundreds of videos where they just throw all kinds of powders in their soaps without premixing then you say its always best to premix. I want to learn it the right way and you seem to be very informative on the entire soaping process. I am so glad I found your videos and I will be purchasing your book. I have already learned so much from you in a week than I have in 2 years LOL I also joined your FB group thank you for excepting me.

Hi! Yes, if you add extra oil to mix Micas it'll up your superfat, so I normally take oil from the recipe to prefix my colorants... same with water for mixing... I take water from the amount in the recipe to premix. You can add milk many different ways, but I prefer to use it frozen in cold process. If you add milk or another liquid at trace then it needs to be part of the total amount of liquid added. For example let's say your recipe calls for 15 ounces of lye and 30 ounces of water, you can mix the lye with 15 ounces of water and then add 15 ounces milk at trace. Remember that lye needs at least it's own weight in water to dissolve correctly and it's a much stronger solution that'll affect how the soap behaves. Do note that a little extra water won't affect things as much, and many soapers have a water amount preference. It just takes time to figure out what works best for you.

Hi what is the difference in clays and micas and which is best and which is natural.
@TinaMoenck7 жыл бұрын
love love Clays are a natural option, and are softer colors. Micas and oxides are made synthetically in labs, but you can get brighter colors. Some micas morph though in soap. Some micas are only for mp.

Why don't you use titanium dioxide, what is wrong with it? I am very new to soap making and haven't used colours yet.
@TinaMoenck7 жыл бұрын
Tina-Marie Hennessy Here's a link that talks about TD. It's a possible carcinogen. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3423755/ I use non nano particle zinc oxide for white.

Tina Moenck wow, I can't say I understood all the report but I certainly get the drift. When I start using colours I certainly won't use titanium dioxide. Thank you for the information. Xxx

I love your videos and I let the commercials run because I know you are compensated by them, but that stupid "egg test" purple bed 4 minute commercial is way too long.. Sorry I don't watch that one..
