To defend their main service from being destroyed by the internet, Blockbuster got into selling merchandise from their brick and mortar stores, a service that had already been destroyed by the internet. So yeah I'd say they definitely hate money!

Used to be a Manager of a Blockbuster: Late fees topped out at $21.97 per movie. So if you rented 3 new releases and were a week late returning them... the fees would be over $60. They were very strict about crediting the fees... I've had people throw movies at me, had one guy try to choke me, and then had someone go on a rampage and knock over the movie racks. Fun times! It was an absolute terrible company and deserves to be bankrupt. Backroom deals with studios: They also would buy license on VHS videos so they would be the only one to supply the movies and the studios would not sell them to the public until months after release. Not returning a new release during this period could result in a fee around $100. Thankful, this practice all went defunct with DVDs and studios releasing them to the public without this period. This was the start of their decline, as it helped loosen their monopoly on movie rentals. Was a fun job in my late teens even with all these shady practices.

So, you can just not come in again until further notice." And I was like "Wha...?" and she was liked "Yeah, like, since you're going to be gone so long, you can just, like, not come in again." And, like, she never said I was fired, but basically... And that store only lasted probably a year after that. Funfact is, I already had a Netflix account when I worked there lol. Blockbuster had started doing a similar mailer rental thing, but it never caught on because Netflix was superior. Anyway, at least it was a stupid high school job that didn't mean anything. I feel sorry for people who really needed their jobs who worked for Blockbuster during those years...

He's replying from the 90's, y'know it takes some time for information to traverse back and forth in time, especially through dial-up! I am replying from 1546, I found this magical shoehorn in a bush, and it spoke softly to my ear and quoted this very video, including comment section! So I whispered back to the shoehorn this very reply and he told me I've got a sexy voice and that this reply will reach you in almost a year. Magical shoehorns are the best!

This is a brilliant series. There's no end to the things that would seem weird to someone in 1995 that we take for granted today. The only thing that could kill Netflix would be if they hadn't realized all their sources would be deciding to release their own streaming services so they'd need to create their own original content. And they did.

Not sure if this has been suggested in any comments on previous videos but this just passed through my medulla oblongata. What if you did a "future is dumb video" talking about youtube and then discussed how you stumbled upon a channel that creates a hilarious pitch meeting series and oddly "the guys in them look exactly like us". Inception level futuring. This realization would obviously be the "holy sh-" moment at the end.
