Congratulations on the your new truck! I will miss your 97 Ford F-250 and the videos! I have the same truck and have been following along doing the same mods that you have shown. I just want you to know that this kid from California has appreciated your videos. I’m not much of a mechanic but with your help I was able to turn my 97 F250 into a nice truck! Thanks! Enjoy your new adventure!

Big mistake. Why not save the money and buy a used Powerstroke from Bill Hewit. I love my 2012 Raptor but not to tow with. The mileage is terrible when towing. If your full timing and heading out west you need the range. Just bought a 2000 7.3 with a titan tank and already love the decision.
@Biggchad
@Biggchad 5 жыл бұрын
7.3 are terrible for towing! I have 2 of them until I rolled my last one. I had an obs and a 99. One was stock with the ts6 the other had all kinds of other upgrades. I would take my bulletproofed 6.0 over any 7.3. Or even a 5.9 cummins would be better than a 7.3 for towing
@yougear100
@yougear100 5 жыл бұрын
@@Biggchad You bought the wrong truck. Everybody knows you want a 2000 or later 7.3. Aside from the forged rods of the 00's, 99 and earlier had AB injectors not the later AD. Lower pressure fuel pump and smaller turbo. But most of all it had a 110v injector driver module not the later 220v. BTW I have 4 trucks with 12v and 24v Cummins a 6.0 and 6.7 Powerstroke. I have 21 trucks in total. I know what i'm talking about. The 7.3's with the Banks system is amazing with better compression braking. Not better overall but amazing in it's own right. Don't be so insecure about it kid.
@yougear100
@yougear100 5 жыл бұрын
@Mustang .308 Sounds like you drive with great mechanical sympathy. She'll last and last just as long as you change the top oil for the HUI injectors. Foxboss9 only tows a 6000lbs travel trailer, a 7.3 is not the only option but IMOP the best. No emissions or EGR stuff to worry about and great MPG if tuned properly. Sure they are less refined and loud, but the stupid simple and durable nature of the 7.3 is why I chose it for peace of mind when traveling.
@yougear100

@Mike Greski Look. 4;10's with 35's and 3:73 with factory 33's numerically work out to the same final drive ratio. The raptor is lighter than a Superduty. Yes the output's are different, however the mileage is about a the same, so are the gear ration's in the transmissions. I've towed a similar weight trailer and received horrible mileage which is the point I was making. Now in Ohio there may not be any hills like we have out here so he can get away with a gas motor sipping fuel and nursing the gas pedal. Diesel trucks under load, especially the older ones with out DEF, have better pulling power and mileage. Also the last gen Superduty's have a proven million mile chassis and body that is durable and easy to repair. I'm a Ford fan obviously, but there is no telling how the alumium body trucks will work out in the long run. The EPA has some funny rules when it comes to gas. Titan tanks will sell you a 67 gallon mid ship tank, but it's against the rules if it's for a gas motor. Evidently the government thinks it's a moving bomb. Sure you can get it mounted in the bed, that's OK. But you really want the smelly stuff under the rig. That's all.

We recently spoke about overheating issues going up the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and a 180 degree thermostat seems to have done the trick. I still want to replace the 2 core radiator with a 4 core. Thank you for taking the time to post the videos and giving full explanations on how and why they were done! Look forward to seeing videos on the new truck and hopefully we can meet up some day on the RV trail. Let me know if you and Heidi get out to Colorado. I am feeling sorry for myself because I was watching your mods to the 460. I thought the next mod was going to be a new cam and valve gear. I have a 1996 E350 Club Wagon with the 460. It only has 63k miles. The mods you made to your truck would apply to my van so I paid close attention. Some years ago I found a magazine article in which they modified a Centurion Bronco with a 460 and they did pretty much everything you did except that they had a new cam installed. There may have been more but I don't remember. Happy trails to you.

Yes, I feel the exact same way. It sucks that I have all the abilities to work on that old engine and now that I've got a new truck I pretty much am stuck with it being stock until the warranty is over which isn't till 75000 miles. Give me an idea I've only got 10,000 miles on the truck after one year. I sure do miss working on that old truck. I feel for you cuz I'm in the same boat. I do love this new truck though. Beautiful new truck, but I doubt it will give you the service that the '97 gave you. The only diesel any good is the Cummins. Not anything related to any truck make, just the Cummins. But, the upcharge and service expense of the diesel hardly makes it worth it. If you are using it, yes , of course. I should know as I have a Kenworth with Cat power for highway and a Kenworth dump truck with Detroit power.

That’s exactly the truck I want with one exception they still put in manual 4x4 shifters and that’s what I want. I cannot stand electric shift knobs, buttons. They also make a cable that you can run to the front axle this also manually engages the front hubs not you have the ability to override the hubs and use 4 low to use as a creeping gear. I’m not certain however if that cable will work on the new f250 but it does on my 97 F150 the 4x4 is pretty much the same system they’ve been using for years.

@Foxboss9 5 жыл бұрын
@@vmoore5356 I'll be the judge of it. So far the 6.2 L is quieter, smoother, faster, more powerful and it gets better gas mileage than my old 460 did. As far as repairs I've had none so far. And if something changes you guys will be the first to know because I post all my repair videos online. In the meantime you need to point me to these 400,000 mile 460 engine videos that I need to be watching. Even then anything that is well taken care of can go a crapload of miles. I can tell you the story about the Twinsburg Chrysler employee that bought a k car brand new and went 500,000 miles without major failure. Does that mean the 2.2 L 4 cylinder and that K car will outlive everything on the road? Can you even tell me where even one Dodge Aries or Plymouth Reliant is right now? I'm moving forward. I'm willing to find out what this new engine will do. I'm not going to hold on to a truck that is slowly rusting away and I had no plans on driving a vehicle that has over 250,000 miles Towing my travel trailer all over the country without having a major engine rebuild before I do so. That is how engines are taken care of. Overhauls are necessary maintenance to ensure reliability.

When you show you towing with your old F250 your temp gauge shows needle on cold pulling hard-- did you over build the cooling system ???? Not good for the 460.
@Foxboss9
@Foxboss9 5 жыл бұрын
The factory gauge doesn't have the sensor deep enough in the stream when I installed the heavy cast water outlet with 2 bosses for the aftermarket water temp gauge.. I understand how important chamber temperatures are to ensure complete combustion and to allow thermal dynamic metal expansion of pistons for ring sealing... Of course oil flow so that the heads won't sludge.. 97% of engine temperature failures are on the "too hot" side of things so I like to run cooler thermostats than factory especially on these old EEC Systems.. You can usually get a little more "fat" of a mixture out of them which I take advantage of by running a stronger ignition system...

Great decision to go gas over diesel in my opinion. Diesel fuel is more expensive, and maintenance costs are insane. Most people that buy diesels really don't need them. Since you're towing a fairly light trailer, I think you made the right choice.
@buckhorncortez
@buckhorncortez 5 жыл бұрын
"...maintenance costs are insane..." You'll have to explain "insane." Like 10x the cost? 20x the cost? I've owned 7 diesel trucks since 1988. I hardly find the maintenance cost difference "insane." Higher? Maybe, 20% higher over the life of the truck if you include things like changing batteries. You have more oil, and that cost, if you have the oil change done at the dealer, is about $40 more than a gas motor truck. There are two fuel filters that need to be replaced at 15K mile intervals. None of that reaches "insane." After that - the maintenance requirements are exactly the same as a gas motor truck.

So, the old F250 and the previous F-150 both had beds on them that I weren't too concerned about. However, this new truck came with Factory rail caps including the tailgate all the way around. So when we talked to the cap shop we asked if they were going to remove the plastic rail Stoppers from the truck and they said they never do that on any of the installations. So apparently I don't have to worry about the paint getting damaged as those caps are going to stay on there. Man those fiberglass Toppers are expensive. I mean I think I can buy a gutted fiberglass boat for what they're charging for a fiberglass cap that's only 8 ft long. LOL

A 6.7 powerstroke would get you better gas mileage, they have worked all the bugs out of the 6.7, if you are going to be doing nothing but towing even a small travel trailer you should have gotten the powerstroke. You will definitely find this out ounce you get on the road.

Foxboss9 the gas engine is also only good for about 200k, that’s pushing it, were the 6.7 can go for over 300k, don’t worry you’ll see soon enough, i also used to have a 2004 f250 with the 5.4L triton, i got my 6.7 about a year ago, and i would never consider a gas again.

Foxboss9 also if your basing off of what everyone els is mostly saying for the powerstroke fuel milage, thats because at about every red light they step on the truck, i tow a 33’ fifth wheel and the truck gets about 16.8-17.5MPG depending on how hard you step on it.
@Foxboss9
@Foxboss9 5 жыл бұрын
@@jaredfournier2077 well if you base your decision off that 5. 4 then you have never had a good gas engine. Because that thing was a dog. No power for Towing no power for going and didn't do very well on mile per gallon either. The power stroke engine was not the right option for us Towing such a lightweight trailer. Talk about bringing an elephant gun for a squirrel hunt, that's exactly what we'd be doing with a $67,000 powerstroke truck instead of a $40,000 gas truck. As far as basing what I've said on others talking about their gas mileage I'm comparing it to guys that have left the diesel group and went gas because it was cheaper for them to drive the gas. So if they're driving their diesel like their sports cars and they're getting poor gas mileage how much better do you think they're getting in their gas engines if they're driving in the same way? I did a complete video on gas versus diesel you may want to look at that because I've covered the only reasons that you would need to buy a diesel. And under 9000 lb and less than 12000 miles a year Towing especially if you stay out of the Hills there is absolutely no reason to have a diesel. All the gas options that are in the HD trucks are plenty for 9000 lb and under Towing less than 10000 miles a year and occasionally going through the mountains.

Iv bn having my old 2004 5.4l f150 for 15 yr so that really all I know on power wise .. my friend does have a 2018 hemi 1500 and its fast and all but it seem like it might only tow a little better that my old truck .. so I was wounding if I would be wasting my time with the 460 if it would not pulling any better ..

I remember comparing my 95 F150 to my 97 F250 and thinking that the 2 sitting side by side really showed how small my F150 was... WELL, that is nothing compared to what this new one looks like next to that same 97... I'm sure if I had my F150 still it would look like a sedan next to this 2019.😁

I know, but , other than color, there were five identical trucks on the lot. There was a white, red, blue, gray, and then this black one. The black one was the only one that had the fordpass system. So basically I could do remote start with my phone. If I had my choice though I would have done white or gray. Oh well

Although I agree you are a idiot for spending that much money on a new truck when the old one would have been cheaper to restore to your desires .....lets be honest you just wanted a new truck make all the excuses you want . it boils down to the shiny new toy. I do wonder how rich this guy is to be able to do full time rv travel and drop 40 grand right before he does it most people would be saving money. Also stay with a bumper pull anyone can pull it if the shiny truck breaks down and you find it takes a week in the dealership. to fix a single sensor because some idiot buried it under half the engine
