100%. The way jiujitsu should be. If someone's at a gym and the other person doesn't admire a sick technique being hit on them than the culture there likely sucks.

This roll is packed with instructions. Going to have to watch it a few times. Impressive how you stuck to your concepts when you hurt your knee but continued to grapple effectively. That sequence showed how well your system works! Thank you for the great post!
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Жыл бұрын
Thanks man! The concepts are really what I consider fundamentals and they remain more important than ever when in poor circumstance. For example people often want to know how to beat or survive against bigger opponents and the answer really is to prioritize proper fundamentals. Denying inside position by using frames and closing space, not letting your back get pinned to the mat etc. My roll with Bernardo was a great example. I've got this much larger and stronger multiple time world champ using his A game on me, well I better be on point with the fundamentals/concepts.

Nice throw brother! I met that guy in person at your academy. I would have been able to roll with him in the Gi, but we were too busy. He looks like a strong dude-even more so in person. Nice guy too. Everyone at your school is. I figured he brings it on the mat, 😂. I hope that knee isn’t too jacked up. Funny how that works. We literally did like 1,000 takedowns that week and you didn’t get hurt, but then it happens in the weirdest way. It’s always been that way for me. You can’t predict it

Hey what does Gi mean in BJJ I’m new to the sport
@josephbreza-grappling9459 Жыл бұрын
@@ziiik4398 Gi is the traditional kimono worn in Judo, Jiu Jitsu, karate, etc. Most martial arts have a particular type of Gi that is suited to the martial art. For example, a competition Judo Gi is much much heavier and thicker than w Jiu Jitsu Gi, which makes it harder to establish and maintain grips. In contrast, a Karate Gi is thin that it will likely rip in time. It’s not meant for excessive torture like a Jiu Jitsu or Judo Gi

Your move to beat the quad pod is slick (2:10), BUT for aggressive beginners who want to try it, I would also show them that you have to help the uke get to the ground safely with a roll. You kinda broke the fall for Alex, which is good. But I could see a situation where someone takes that remaining posting arm away, and you end up spiking your poor opponent skull first on the mat.

At 8:56 - I'm often in a similiar position Alex is in - my top elbow and knee are connected to close of that space and hands typically are around my neck defending seatbelt attempts. I find I'm often stuck under a large opponent and its actually a position I can hold for quite a long time until they transition north/south and start attaching my feet. What is the best to escape that?

Do you think being strong and tough is too much of a factor for belts? Would the 150lb version of this guy also be considered ready for purple despite not performing as well against you because of physicality?
@chaseovermire Жыл бұрын
A great perspective.
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Жыл бұрын
I try not to let it factor in too much. For grading people I prioritize technicality first and foremost. Rolling ability is a bit of factor though and strength definitely helps with that. There's those with great technique but poor rolling ability, and those with poor technique and great rolling ability. Alex is definitely closing in on purple with his technicality 👊
@chaseovermire Жыл бұрын
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu The technicality is where I am struggling the most. Physically I can hang with some of the higher belts pretty well and not be tapped out in a 4 minute bout more than once but it's really just me playing pure defense. Anybody was grading it I would get a zero for points haha. I find often when I do get myself into a good position I don't leverage the techniques smoothly enough (yet) or oftentimes I consider the technique and then by the time I've decided to commit to it it's already too late. The fun of a white belt :). I've instead started to focus a little bit more on absorbing the information on how they're connecting and figuring out where and when they add or alleviate pressure or create space. That's helped me a ton figure out what someone wants to attempt to do or if they detach and give me some space to make a movement I'm now considering depending on our position whether or not that detachment is purposeful and they're attempting to trap me in something. Watching others roll makes it look easy, then you start rolling and it's choke defense city ha :D

Why is that an O-Garuma and not a Harai Ogoshi? (Forgive my spelling if I butchered the names)
@josephbreza-grappling9459 Жыл бұрын
In Judo, there are leg/foot techniques “Ashi-waza” and hip techniques “Koshi-waza.” Hari goshi falls under koshi waza, because it’s a hip throw (with the foot for insurance), whereas o guruma is an ashi waza technique. Essentially, hari goshi is incredibly close to a head and arm in wrestling.

why is the first throw o guruma and not harai goshi?
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Жыл бұрын
I thought it was harai goshi too but some judo guys told me it's o garuma. I guess the difference is harai goshi swipes out the leg more so while o garuma you do swipe the leg but the force is going more to the hips. A judo blackbelt could explain much better and I may have butchered the explanation.
