[A] - This audio is suitable for listeners of any gender. Contains no roleplay elements. Involves some body awareness and body scanning which could be distressing for those with body image issues or trauma/abuse backgrounds, though it is presented in a safe, casual and caring way.
In this audio I walk you through how to check in with yourself physically and emotionally, getting a sense of your needs and what may need your attention. It's an important skill for everyone to develop and a healthy habit to get into, but is of particular importance for people who have experienced trauma or those who may be neurodivergent.
I start off by gently and calmly explaining the importance of listening to our needs and taking care of ourselves, just for a few seconds. I then mention a video game called The Sims and how that game represents human needs with coloured bars (and a coloured diamond) to indicate a person's general state of being. I walk you through a guided body awareness exercise, scanning up your body from your toes to your head, noticing any tension or other sensations and suggesting you relax your muscles. I also suggest trying to listen to indicators of any bodily needs such as hunger, thirst, dry skin or a full bladder. I run through some of the various 'need bars' used in the Sims, including hunger, bladder, hygiene, energy and comfort, which I recommend you assess and see where you're at. I also talk about our environment and whether we might need a change of scenery, as well as the 'fun' and 'social' needs that may require filling too. I then lead you through another scan to check for any feelings or emotions that you might be experiencing, consciously or not, and talk a little about how to acknowledge and accept those emotions, thereby helping us deal with them in healthy ways and feel better. I finish up by encouraging you to try and do this whenever possible, ideally at least once a day, so that you can gain information about yourself and how to take care of yourself. I want you to take care of yourself, so please do that for me. Your needs deserve to be filled, and it is the duty of all living creatures to meet their needs to the best of their ability. You are not the exception.

I'm usually red or orange, but with your videos, even the short ones like the bed time stories, I can be green. Thank you for everything.

Idk how I feel about listening to you. You’re so comforting, but listening to you just makes me feel a deeper sadness within.

I think that sadness is already there, you're just becoming more aware of it as you learn to access and listen to your feelings, and start to acknowledge things you've probably been subconsciously avoiding. Sadness is a helpful and healthy emotion that lets us know something is important to us, often something we're lacking or needing. I'd recommend sitting with those feelings and asking what they're trying to tell you. Really listening to them, doing some journaling or mindfulness. Even talking with a therapist if you're still not sure where that sadness is coming from. Was in an anxious fugue until I started listening to this. Now I'm imagining removing ladders from swimming pools, and I'm smiling. Probably not what you intended, but it worked! 🙃
