Yeah would be completely illegal, an employer cannot take any losses from an employees wage that would take them below the national minimum. Anyone this happens to should report their employer to ACAS.

@@rickysmyth That may be a worry although I don't think that even the BOE takes them. My point was that it is illegal to stop someone's wages unless the stoppage is authorised, such as NHI, tax, and pensions. Anything else written into a contract such as forecourt losses would be considered unfair & unreasonable. The assistant was worried that any loss would be stopped., from his wages. I am sure that it goes on because people don't know the law.

@@RonSeymour1 I'm from the UK and I don't think that people in the UK believe that money can be taken out of their wages considering shoplifting is more of a problem to those stores. The staff can't really run out of the stores trying to catch shoplifters otherwise other customers will also walk out without paying and a till full of money and lots of cigarettes are left unattended. If they had to pay for shoplifting losses, they would have no wages at all

@@rickysmyth I have seen people say that before and at 2:47 this is what the young man implied. Big stores would not get away with it but smaller ones with staff too worried about their lob, just might believe it or accept it. It is also illegal to pay below the minimum wage but it still happens.

I'm a hgv driver we always get asked to show payment first wether its a company card and they verify it before we fill up. So I agree with you on this one they should do the same with cars then everyone happy lol
