Fall 2022 is still pretty secure due to the high energy prices. It's afterwards, when energy depencence is lower and Europe has started in earnest with transitioning away from russian fossils....

Unfortunately the amount of time for Germany to organise swapping its energy supplies from Russia /USSR is exactly the same as the amount of time it takes for Russia to supply the countries who used to be supplied by by Germanys new source. The oligarchs are very quiet, sitting on the fence.

@@andrewpease3688 except at that point secondary sanctions can be applied. Also don't forget the shipping insurance sanctions that have just been brought into place: those place a massive spanner into Russia's shift export destination logistics.

@@sesenmaister liar. Starvation will be due to Russia and Russia ONLY. Russia had a choice. It chose to illegally invade, rape, pillage and harry a nation and attempt to destroy its people through genocide. It chose to impose a blockade on a vital food exporter. No one else made those choices. No one else is to blame for them. Anyone (like you) who says otherwise is a disgusting and evil example of humanity.

A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside and enigma might have been a reasonable description of the Western comprehension of the USSR in 1939, when no one in the West had insight into the mind of Stalin, the operation of the Politburo and Central Committee, or into popular attitudes. But now, even after over twenty years of Westerners living in Moscow, we still seem to be largely guessing about Russian leaders' motivations and mindsets.

There is also assassination, which is always easy for a small group of people. It is a matter of who can influence those people. That is very hard to know, often even after the fact. The Ukraine debacle has been a nightmare for the security elite too. Many of them have been purged and they were into the perks they used to have that came with being elite in a non-pariah state. They notice the difference.

Then you should research him again. One can definitely admire his bravery to stand up against Putin. But Navalny is a self-proclaimed nationalist and xenophobe.

Mandela was not all he was hyped up to be. The man was a terrorist who had had many innocent civilians killed. That’s why he was imprisoned, not because he “was against apartheid”. His wife, Winnie, ran a brutal crime organization that killed lots of blacks by “necklacing”: putting a tire with some petrol in it around their necks and then setting the petrol on fire. ANC’s rule has been one disappointment after another, with lots of lazy/incompetent blacks forced into all organizations from top to bottom, often with management responsibility over the whites who do all the work. South Africa’s infrastructure is falling apart.
