I was so surprised to hear that bit about your Brazilian history class! I’m not from Rio de Janeiro-I actually live in the Central-West region of Brazil-, but when I visited the US, I had to do a 10 minute explainer to every American person I met about where I live. 😭 Your project was so beautiful!

@juliannaweege I visited Portland, OR-I was there for a conference. Most Americans knew Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, maybe some city in the South, but a lot of them struggled to understand where my hometown is (I live in Goiânia, just a couple of kilometers away from the capital city of Brazil). I even got unexpected questions like, “Do you live in the jungle?”, which still make me cringe weeks later. 🫠

there's somewhat of a disparity in the "literacy" of americans. the immense cost of higher education is definitely a factor, but the biggest is the attitude american society as a whole has towards literally everything non-stem, any other education is basically shunned upon. i think another factor is also the growing dissent towards higher education as a whole from conservatives. it is really quite odd to me i have never seen anything like it any other country, most countries i'm familiar with place a huge (sometimes too much) importance on education. but yea within the US college-educated circles you will find many brilliant and knowledgeable people too

Congrats on finishing your summer classes! I took a summer class a year ago and it was difficult because time flew by SO quickly! I ended up doing really well and passing with flying colors after not taking math for a year. Everything in your video was so green and pretty and I really want it to rain where I am! I miss studying. To all students here, cherish your time in school. You can still romanticize studying, choose pretty places to study on, make notes colorful and pretty. When you are already working (a corporate job) you will realize how much those little things make everyday life a little bit joyful. You don’t get to do that much if you’re living paycheck to paycheck, just trying to get by, and probably also hating people on work or your job itself. I hope everyone gets lucky to still have a job that can give way to little things that make life wonderful.
